Zachowania, postawy i opinie mieszkańcow regionu Zachodniopomorskiego wobec wybranych aspektów kultury konsumpcyjnej

Author(s): Augustyna Burlita / Language(s): Polish Issue: 16/2010

Consumption plays an important role in the social life in nowadays developed countries. According to E. Fromm, „consumption became now the value” and „whole world in its wealth is transferred to a subject of consumption”. Consumer culture, created by postmodernism, became the mass culture for over 1.7 billion people from developed countries, i.e. for approximately 27% of the world population and influenced their consumption behaviors, lifestyle, value systems and aspirations. Therefore it seems to be important to find answers to following questions: – To what extent the Polish consumers are able to recognize the impact of consumer culture on their behaviors? – What are the behaviors, opinions and attitudes towards some particular issues resulting from living in a consumer society? The objective of this paper is presentation of some chosen results of research in this field carried out among inhabitants of West-Pomeranian region of Poland.

Zmiana zachowań konsumenckich i jej psychospołeczne uwarunkowania

Author(s): Marzena Jeżewska-Zychowicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 16/2010

The essential group of reasons determining the lasting character of selecting behaviours is created by consumer and their psycho-social characteristics. The effects of the impact of these characteristics on consumers’ decisions are presented in various theoretical models described in psychological literature and by results of research using these models. Results of undertaken research indicated that consumer’s behaviours depend on who is he or she, what kind of knowledge he or she has, what is he or she afraid of, and what is his or her expectations. The change of consumer’s behaviours needs to take into account consumers’ psychosocial characteristics including attitudes towards product, self efficiency, perceived risk concerning behaviour, and subjective norms as well. The questionnaire survey on changes of consumers’ behavior showed that the change is determined by the attitude towards behavior, the subjective norms and to a larger extent by the perceived efficacy. There was no significant correlation between the perceived risk and intention, but there is a need to take risk and perceived risk into account when changes in consumers’ behaviours are investigated.

Leaders and decision making: a study of the drivers of courage

Author(s): Rasoava Rijamampianina / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2018

Interest in leadership effectiveness and failure has led scholars to investigate the un¬derlying factors. Courage has been evoked as an essential component of character in effective leaders. Kidder and Bracy (2001) posit that courage lays the foundation for other virtues and values to emerge and develop in leaders. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to explore the drivers of courage in leaders at various decision making moments in their career and life. To this aim, a qualitative narrative analysis of sixty stories extracted from structured interviews of fourteen Mauritian leaders was carried out. The principal results indicate leadership skills are not sufficient for a leader to act courageously, and that both internal and external drivers of courage are required for courageous leadership. In addition, some of the internal drivers of courage such as Values & Beliefs and Self-Consciousness are closely linked to dimensions of authen¬tic leadership. Therefore, organizations or leadership programs that are interested in developing and maintaining qualities of effective leadership should develop support systems that further the internal and external drivers of courage. However, because it is found to be the result of a continuous lifetime process, courage should be encouraged and integrated early in educational curriculum.

Author(s): Jarosław Grobelny / Language(s): Polish Issue: 04/2018

Occupational stress is the result of a perceived lack of balance between the work environment’s demands and the employee's ability to cope with these demands. According to the stress process model, the employee's resources can moderate the relationship between the job demands and perceived stress. Work engagement, the long-term and positive affective-cognitive state, may constitute such a resource. The results of this study confirm this assumption. In the group of workers less engaged in work, the level of perceived occupational stress was higher than in the group of engaged workers and the level of this attitude significantly moderated the relationship between job demands and perceived stress. Practical implications about organizational factors influencing work engagement are also discussed.

KARİYER BASAMAKLARINDA KADININ DÜŞMANI OLARAK KENDİSİ: SÜPER ANNE SENDROMU, GÖRÜNMEZ KADIN SENDROMU VE KÜLKEDİSİ SENDROMU

Author(s): Şafak Gündüz / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 35/2017

The most important actors who face challenging conditions in organisations are undoubtedly the employees, who are the social capital of business life. The new roles emerging due to many changes put a great pressure on employees and the ones who have difficulty in combating them may have some psychological problems. There is “business etiquette” in organisations which are the places heavily intertwined with human relationships. Those professional relationships determined with unwritten rules are shaped with determinants such as organisational structure, culture and climate as well as individual characteristics of the employees. Individuals could not succeed in having healthy relationships due to organisational or personal reasons. Thus, some syndromes may occur which are not considered psychological illnesses, and can be studied within the frame of Organisational Behaviour discipline. The aim of this study is to affect the career dynamics of business life by creating awareness about a couple of syndromes that arise among women and harm them by weakening them in the struggle of business life. Three determined syndromes; Supermom Syndrome, Invisible Woman Syndrome and Cinderella Syndrome will be discussed in this study.

Evaluation of the hexagonal and spherical model of vocational interests in the young people in Serbia and Bulgaria

Author(s): Vladimir Hedrih,Marina Stošić,Ivana Simić,Snežana Ilieva / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2016

The aim of this study was to validate Holland’s hexagonal and Tracey’s spherical model of vocational interests in young adults in Serbia and Bulgaria. To this end, 1250 participants, 560 from Serbia and 690 from Bulgaria, filled in Serbian and Bulgarian versions of the Personal Globe Inventory (PGI, Tracey, 2002). Hubert and Arabie’s randomization test of hypothetical orders, multidimensional scaling with fixed coordinates, Myors test and exploratory factor analysis were used. The results showed that the hexagonal and spherical models well explained the structure of vocational interests in both samples. The level of fit of the hexagonal model to the data obtained by using the PGI was generally higher than those established in the studies that used other Holland-based instruments. Furthermore, the levels of fit of both hexagonal and spherical model were in the same range like those obtained in previous studies in other countries. The results also pointed out a remarkable similarity in the structure of vocational interests in the Bulgarian and Serbian samples.

Workplace bullying in Serbia: The relation of self-labeling and behavioral experience with job-related behaviors

Author(s): Ivana B. Petrović,Svetlana Čizmić,Milica Vukelić / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2014

Workplace bullying has been identified as a widespread problem in contemporary organizational research. The aim of the paper was to acquire theoretically based and comparable findings about workplace bullying in Serbia: to explore the behavioral experience and self-labeling approaches (applying the Negative Acts Questionnaire – Revised, NAQ-R) and their relationship with job-related behaviors. The sample comprised 1,998 employees. Prevalence rates of workplace bullying based on self-labeling and behavior experience approaches overlap significantly (70% of employees operationally identified as bullied had also labeled themselves as bullied). Both the self-labeling and behavioral experience approach showed significant correlations with job-related behaviors (perceived threat to a total job, absenteeism, intention to leave, and perceived productivity). Previously bullied, presently bullied and non-bullied employees differed significantly on all four job-related behaviors, with large effect size for the intention to leave and medium effect size for the perceived threat to a total job. The findings support combining self-labeling and behavioral experience approaches in workplace bullying research.

Ocena wymagań jako wyzwań i przeszkód w pracy i jej wpływ na efektywność i dobrostan pracowników

Author(s): Zofia Mockałło,Maria Widerszal-Bazyl / Language(s): Polish Issue: 10/2018

The purpose of this article was to describe the concept of challenge and hindrance job demands. It discusses Cavanaugh et al.’s theory and reviews the literature on the impact of challenge and hindrance job demands on employees. In general, the review suggests that challenges are related positively and hindrances negatively with employees’ wellbeing, efficiency and job attitudes. However, the results are not unequivocal. It seems that individual perception - whether an employee perceives job demands as challenging or hindering - plays a crucial role in the relationship. The review also suggests that individual and psychosocial resources play an important role – as mediators and moderators – in the way that hindrances and challenges influence employees. This article also discusses directions of future research.

The World Health Organization has stated that the last few years, the youth mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and selfharm, were increased. Student mental health is a concern for the whole college community. Only close cooperation within the college can help prevent serious psychological/psychiatric or learning problems from occurring. The problem arises when the student has serious problems, but do not seek help. Mental pressure - depression, anxiety and stress are felt because of the high internal requirements, such as attempts to be the first or do things perfectly; and the external requirements (evoked by parents and contemporaries, relatives and friends, with the influence of common cultural norms as well). Students are a specific social group which pays a special attention to their studies. People belonging to this group can be vulnerable both from mental and psychological sides. As they face with the teaching load and constant emotional pressure, success in studies and quality of their further life is dependant from their state of mind. Customer Disposition to Value Co-Creation Activities. The Case of the Clothing Industry

Author(s): Grzegorz Mazurek,Magdalena Krzyżanowska,Olga Kolomiiets / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2018

Purpose: The willingness of consumers to engage in co-creation activities is affected by multiple factors, including intrinsic motivation, firm-level factors, and expected outcomes of the participation in co-creation process. However, the final decision of customer engagement in co-creation is determined by the level of brand attachment and love experienced by customers, product category, and the type of needs satisfied with the object of co-creation. The current research proposes a holistic view of the abovementioned factors and variables by exploring their relationships and mutual influence. Methodology: This study analyzes the results of qualitative research on the dynamics between positive client attitude toward a brand and the willingness to engage in co-creation activities. Results/Findings: The study reveals that the willingness to engage in co-creation activities is strongly related to the level of brand attachment except for when people conduct such activities to experience the process itself. The level of customer satisfaction from participation in co-creation processes influences their future sense of brand love and attachment. Moreover, the way and strength of customer engagement in co-creative projects are affected by the product category. The authors especially stress the importance of a strategic approach toward designing and implementing co-creation projects and the key role of appropriate communication with participants.

Örgütsel Stres Algısında Cinsiyet Temelli Farklılıklar ve Stres Kaynakları Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Author(s): Kurtulus Kaymaz / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2019

The research is aimed to investigate if the perceived organizational stress and stress sources differ according to gender. For this purpose, the demand-control-social support model was used and data were collected via face to face survey around three sub-dimensions (work load, decision, and social support). The study is conducted on totally 2467 employees and 1922 employees were responsive. The fist main finding of this study is that the important part of the employees were working in “high job stress” region. Another finding in the research show that there is a significant difference between male and female employees from the point of work load and decision (autonomy). Conversely, it is found that gender of the employees does not form a significant difference for social support dimension. From the perspective of stress sources, the findings indicate that negative circumstances in pay and social rights, managers’ attitudes and behaviors and physical working conditions are main stress sources for both males and females. Especially, results proved that females affected more negatively from the stress sources like physical working conditions, work load, occupational health and safety, working breaks and annual leave than males.

UTICAJ MOTIVACIJE NA EFIKASNOST U DRŽAVNOJ SLUŽBI

Author(s): Dženan Alić,Selma Talić / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 19/2018

Motivation is an inner force that drives a man to satisfy his needs and goals. During the process of motivating, every person needs to be well acquainted, because motivating is not only knowledge, but also a skill. Motivation is very important in all spheres of life, and also at work when we need to motivatie employees. It is often not easy to motivate employees in the right way. Motivated workers are working harder and settingbetter goals. The key to successful motivation is to get to know employees and their motivational factors. In organizations, motivation is often more important than strategically set goals and plans expressed in numbers, and managers and leaders have a task to recognize this. It is not easy for a leader of a team to easily motivate team members. They say that motivation lasts 3 to 5 days on average, so we ourselves conclude thatwe should be motivated more often. Everything is fine as long as someone is there to motivate us, and even better if we are strong enough to motivate ourselves. People these days are often motivated by money, while professional motivation is based on the need for learning, self-esteem, gaining status. A small number of managers realize the importance of motivation as a key element in raising productivity and efficiency, andthink that it is enough for the team members to set the goal.
