SMUTEK. ANALIZA PSYCHOLOGICZNA

Meditative Cognitive Therapies: A Literature Review

Meditative Cognitive Therapies: A Literature Review

Author(s): Rebecca Bhik-Ghanie / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Yoga has existed for centuries in the East, beginning in India, as a religious practice of meditation and mindfulness. In the West, however, yoga is more often a popular exercise-based practice with little to no emphasis on its religious or spiritual foundations. Curiously, the mindfulness aspect of yoga has become increasingly popular within the United States, particularly as a method for therapeutic treatments, such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapies (MBCT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These therapies have been useful for patients in the early stages of psychiatric disorders (e.g. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Type 1 Bipolar Disorder), as some patients can supplement their medication in exchange for these forms of therapy. This paper investigates the origins of yoga from a Hindu perspective, explaining how recent trends in the U.S. have extracted elements of the traditional practice while adding other elements with a Western influence. This paper also investigates current symptoms and treatments for psychiatric disorders and explores how mindfulness can play an important role in future forms of therapy.

Skryté nadání: Psychologická specifika rozumově nadaných žáků s dyslexií

Author(s): Šárka Portešová / Language(s): Czech

This overview monograph is focused on psychological specifics of intellectually gifted learners whose abilities are often concealed due to the simultaneous existence of a specific learning disability, dyslexia. The publication gives an overview of the genesis of international professional interest in this issue and it is dedicated especially to the issue of psychological assessment and pedagogical identification of the population of the gifted. Emphasis is laid, among others, on describing the barriers and stereotypical approaches considerably impeding relevant identification. Moreover, the author also pays attention to an overview of typical cognitive, social and emotional characteristics of the examined population of the gifted and points to significant risks resulting from wrong or insufficient identification. Amongst highly adverse consequences, there is the issue of the origin of social and emotional problems, forming chronic academic failure, and disturbing the stability of functioning of the whole system in which the child is growing up. Furthermore, she also suggests possibilities of psychological counselling and modifying ways of education regarding the examined population of gifted pupils and students.

Adolescent psychosocial development in Brno: An ELSPAC Study 2005–2011

Author(s): / Language(s): English

Our longitudinal findings are in line with published research describing current adolescence as a dynamic stage of life during which an individual‟s personal participation or influence on his or her development sharply increases. This leads, amongst other things, to higher variability of developmental changes and to an erosion of some stereotypes about the psychological and social life of adolescents. The respondents of the Brno longitudinal study (ELSPAC) represent a new generation of Czech adolescents. They were born in the time of turbulent social changes when political, economic and cultural conditions were significantly changing bringing along shifts in lifestyles, social norms and values of all generations including the parents of current adolescents. It can be hypothesised this society-wide change partially moderated the traditional inter generational conflict between adolescents and adults. We can speculate that the adults, not only the adolescents, partially spent the past two decades searching for a new personal and social identity (e.g. career changes, social security decrease, increase in personal freedom and responsibility of own life course). What was appreciated in the beginning of the 1990s as new possibilities – e.g. freedom in opinions and attitudes, opportunity to attain quality education, foreign travel, opportunities for self-actualisation etc. – is perceived as commonplace by today‟s adolescents.

NORMAL AGING

Author(s): Tatjana Bačun,Ivan Lekić / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Aging is a physiological process that, affected by genetic factors, different lifestyles, and environmental exposures, leads to senescence and death. With increasing age, changes in organs and organ systems occur, leading to progressive deterioration and damage to their function, as well as chronic diseases and functional disability. Older age is defined as a chronological age of 65 years. The average life expectancy in Western Europe and the United States is 74 for men and 80 for women. It is expected that by 2025, there will be as many as 82% of people over 60. The elderly often suffer from presbyopia and hearing loss, their muscle mass decreases with an increase in fatty tissue and diminishing bone mineral density, their skeleton becomes more fragile and their body height decreases. Movement and mental reactions become slower. Cardiac minute volume, the vital capacity of the lungs and kidney filtration capacity decrease, while the function of the digestive system generally remains preserved. Special characteristics of organ systems of the elderly are an indispensable subject when it comes to the development of medicine and the development of civilization in general.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OF THE ELDERLY IN THE PREVENTION OF CHRONIC DISEASES, QUALITY AND LENGTH OF LIFE

Author(s): Tatjana Bačun,Ivan Lekić / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Physical activity is beneficial to people of all ages and is associated with reducing morbidity and prolonging life expectancy. Exercise has been linked to several beneficial health outcomes, including improved bone and muscle health, reduced risk of obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancer, and overall mortality. It can also improve cognitive functions, reduce the risk of falls and fall-related injuries in older adults, and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The most common risks of exercise are injuries to the musculoskeletal system. More severe but less common risks include arrhythmias, sudden cardiac arrest, and myocardial infarction. The benefits of exercise outweigh the potential risks. By exercising the elderly improve mobility, strength, flexibility, and stability. It can improve daily functioning, reduce the risk of falls and consequent injuries, and help maintain independence. It is never too late for physical activity, and every physical activity has health benefits. Group exercise programs have the added benefit of social inclusion. Before starting physical activity, it is necessary to assess the current activity, determine the presence of symptoms and signs of known chronic diseases, and the desired intensity of exercise. Four categories of exercise are recommended for older adults: aerobic exercise, strength exercises, flexibility, and balance. It usually starts with moderate-intensity aerobic activities for 30 minutes five days a week or vigorous activities three days a week. Flexibility is significant for performing daily life activities; flexibility exercises should be performed twice a week for 10 minutes.

Dječija I Adolescentna Psihijatrija I Psihologija U Bosni I Hercegovini – Stanje I Perspektive

Author(s): / Language(s): Bosnian,English,Croatian,Serbian

This monograph deals with the use of creative writing in literary education. It shows how exercises aimed at creating texts can be incorporated into school practice and explains why creative writing is effective as a teaching method. The authors of the monograph understand creative writing as a mental tool of cognition, as a medium of creative thinking. The methods of creative writing lead to the development of students’ perception, experiencing and thinking, and also to the development of creative communication in classrooms. At the same time, creative writing is enjoyable and (although this is not the main goal) develops the literary talent of writers. Besides the theoretical background, this book also presents individual projects (lessons devoted to a particular topic) which might be utilized not only in school education (secondary or tertiary) but also as a part of free-time activities.

Interpretation of online consumer behaviour from the consumer neuroscience perspective: Cross generational study

Interpretation of online consumer behaviour from the consumer neuroscience perspective: Cross generational study

Author(s): Anida Krajina / Language(s): English

This monograph reveals the results of empirical research on consumer behavior, more precisely, visual attention and behavioral patterns in online environment and compare the results between two generations (Generation Y and Generation Z). Empirical research was conducted by using eye tracking, complemented with in-depth laddering interviews based on the means-end chains model, in order to examine the values of both generations. Research is embedded in the scientific framework of neuroscience and neuromarketing and has a mixed character (explanatory, exploratory and confirmative). The research objective covers two areas. The first concerns the discovery of cognitive and emotional processes based on visual attention in the online environment of two groups of consumers. In other words, the work focuses on identifying the differences between potential exposure and actual exposure for different types of content: text and graphics (image). Text and images are designed to potentially attract visual attention to certain content elements called call-to-action. Call-to-action is a digital element or tool that helps reinforce and engage customers, in particular by encouraging some desirable action in the online environment (typically in the case of e-shops, so-called like on Facebook, etc. (Adaptly, 2014). It serves as a strategy itself and is implemented particularly in the area of digital marketing. Therefore, the exposure as an expression in this study refers to both the type of content and the exposure of the elements of call-to-action in the content. Secondly, the work explores the relationship between the strength of stimuli and the memory effect. In other words, the goal is to provide a deeper understanding of the impact (or relationship) of the stimulus strength (image versus text) on memory, and to determine whether the preferred content is positively linked to consumer memory. Retrospective interviews are used as a complementary method to eye tracking, and help participants to verbalize experiences, recall process, explain both decision-making and reasons why the attention has been devoted to some elements, and not to others. The results of both approaches lead to better understanding of consumer behavior in theory and optimizing online content in practice.

Hodnocení variabilních mechanismů hlasu, jazyka a řeči v kontextu logopedického a neurovývojového bádání

Author(s): Kateřina Vitásková,Jana Mironova Tabachová,Lucie Nohová / Language(s): Czech

"The collective monograph is focused on the investigation of selected physiological and pathological mechanisms of voice, language and speech in the context of logopedic (speech language therapy), special edcuational and neurodevelopmental, psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic research. These are twelve selected areas of specifics and deviations of communication, including respiration, phonation and resonance, articulation, intelligibility and understanding of speech, phatic functions, lexia and pragmatics of communication, both in the context of their development and acquired and so-called symptomatic (secondary) speech disorders. Individual sub-areas were examined with a primary emphasis on speech therapy and special pedagogical diagnostics and therapy using a mixed methodological research design, using special instrumental, test, registration and specific therapeutic methods, some of which will be adapted or newly created during the project. The publication has a transdisciplinary intersectoral character – it covers both the educational and clinical and counselling environment, uses newly adapted experimental and diagnostic methods and therapeutic materials and extends the current state of knowledge in the field of determinants of development and communication disorders in its individually and situationally variable form. The presented research responds to the long-term pandemic situation, and thus to changes in the assessment of changes and deviations in communication in the context of prevention and impacts of COVID-19, including innovated research methods and its enrichment with a combination of face-to-face field and distance electronic formats."
