Prawda i fałsz w nauce i sztuce

Author(s): / Language(s): Polish

The authors discuss truth and falsehood in science and the arts. They view truth as an irreducible point of reference, both in striving for elementary knowledge about the world and in seeking methods and artistic means of achieving this goal. The multilevel and multiple-aspect research presented here, conducted on material from different periods and different cultures, shows very clearly that truth and falsehood lie at the foundation of all human motivation, choices, decisions, and behaviors. At the same time, however, it reveals that every bid to extrapolate the results of detailed studies into generalizations aimed at universalization – by the very fact of their discursivation – either subjects the discussion to the rules of formal logic or situates it outside the realm of truth and falsehood.

Psychopathology of Plastic Art and Creativity

Psychopathology of Plastic Art and Creativity

Author(s): Cristina-Gabriela Schiopu / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Art is born at the border of external and intrapsychic realities, through the human being’s necessity of including pragmatic elements of his environment into his own affective system. Creativity stands between objective and subjective worlds as a symbolic metamorphosis of the material into the immaterial of the imagination, conscience and emotions of the artist. The product of creativity will be a complex interpretation of environmental elements meant for reinterpretations by other personalities, with their own individual and specific set of imagination tools. But what if, the inspiration for the artistic work is not a reflection of reality but o product of patho-psychological disruptions or, what if the inspiration resides in the altered emotional and neurological perception of reality? The artistic creativity within psychopathological activity in certain psychiatric disorders have been raising interest for both medical and non-medical world but the most intriguing aspect, is maybe, the colorful and complexity of emotions and sensations that are perceived by non-psychiatric persons when viewing such works. Maybe this could represent an argument for the subjective and relativeness of the human psychology, beyond social and cultural standard values.

Psychometrická analýza TIM3–5 – Testu pro identifikaci nadaných žáků v matematice pro 3.–5. třídu

Author(s): Hynek Cígler,Michal Jabůrek,Šárka Portešová,Ondřej Straka / Language(s): Czech

The TIM3-5 test is an assessment tool designed to measure mathematical abilities in the above-average children of grades 3 through 5. Because some advanced psychometric procedures, rarely employed in psychological practice in Czechia, were used during the test development, we have written this book, in which we describe selected psychometric analyses in detail. In the first place, this e-book is, of course, intended for those readers, who are interested in working with the test TIM3-5 itself. However, it may serve as a useful information source also for psychometricians, cognitive scientists, statisticians and professionals in related fields, who need to better acquaint themselves with practical use of Rasch models, with development of parallel test forms and their equating, with DIF analysis and with advanced methods of computation of reliability, which support themselves by the item response theory. The publication also deals with the relationship of mathematical giftedness and particular intelligence factors as specified by the CHC theory of cognitive abilities.

Vývoj metody pro posouzení sociální kognice

Author(s): Kristína Czekóová,Zuzana Pokorná,Beáta Špiláková / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

Conducting ourselves accordingly in varying social situations demands sophisticated socio-cognitive capacities. Developing our understanding of such faculties demands tools that allow us to delineate them into their constituent social and emotional components. This is true particularly of empathy, believed to comprise a cognitive and affective component. The Multifaceted Empathy Test (MET) is used increasingly to investigate empathic awareness and expression. It is a picture-based measure designed to measure the dissociable cognitive and affective components of empathy independently. Currently, however, there exists no formal validation of the MET in the Czech Republic. To address this gap, this presentation describes the process behind stimulus selection, item development, and validation according to the subjective evaluations of Czech and Slovak sample. We believe that the resulting stimulus set will prove useful for future socio-cognitive and -emotion research.

The study issues from understanding metacognition as a pivotal construct and an important variable of learning proccess. We were concered with the concept of metacognition in relation to personality dimensions to understand it in its complexicity. The aim of the study was to find out the relation of metacognitive strategies of students and personality dimensions of the Big Five model. The main premise of the research was “Personality dimensions significantly predict metacognitive strategies of students “ We tested 136 university students (131 female and 35 male, AM=21,49 years old, SD= 1,81) with the Inventory of Metacognitive Strategies and Neo Five- Factor Inventory. The results of correlation study indicated significant relationships among metacognitive strategies and personality dimensions of the Big Five model except personality dimension of agreeableness. Regression analysis indicated that personality dimensions of conscientiousness and openness significantly positively predicted metacognitive strategies of students, while neuroticism negatively predicted metacognitive strategies. Discussion and conclusion: These results provide insight into personality factors that may have an important connection with processes of cognitive regulation. These findings highlight important role conscientiousness, openness and neuroticism play in the cognitive regulatory strategies of learners.

Možnosti predikcie kognitívnych omylov v manažérskej práci

Author(s): Miroslav Frankovsky,Zuzana Birknerová / Language(s): Slovak Publication Year: 0

Occurrence of cognitive distortions in the work of a manager is not rare. Ability to avoid these distortions is an important prerequisite for acceptance of the right decisions and strategies of a company development. Significance of cognitive distortions in accepting decisions by a manager is enhanced by the fact that these decisions influence not only the life of this manager, but also of the organization as a whole, i.e. all of manager’s co-workers. The presented report focuses on the possibility to identify and specify the indicators enabling prediction of occurrence of cognitive distortions in managerial work. The proposal and verification of these predictors of cognitive distortion occurrence are based on the concept by Beck, who described formation and effects of dysfunctional schemes and cognitive distortions in human life. It is clear that these distortions or errors affect both the work and the personal life of a person. The report presents the findings and knowledge which enable prediction of the future occurrence of cognitive distortions in the work of managers on the questionnaire basis.

Osobnost, kreativita a komplexita myšlení

Author(s): Lucie Chadimová,Tomáš Urbánek / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

Presented study introduce the correlation of creativity, personality and cognitive complexity. The structure of cognitive processess has been great topic since the turn of 20th century. The research on cognitive styles have brought many new findings on the interconectedness of personality and cognitive processes such as perception, thinking and decision making, memory etc. Theories of cognitive complexity represent one contribution of this period, which aims on how are the cognitive processess structured, how this structure affects the effectivity of decision making and how it’s affected by different internal or external factors such as sex, age, personality, social context, time pressure etc . In the first part of our research we conducted an analysis of correlation between divergent thinking factors and cognitive complexity measures following the approach of P. Suefeld and P.E. Tetlock. Figural and verbal fluence, flexibility, elaboration and originality were measured by subtests Torrance test of creative behaviour and Guilford Alternative uses test. Cognitive complexity was scored on the Paragraph completion test data following the Integrative/Conceptual complexity scoring manual (BakerBrown et al., 1992). In the second part of study we conducted correlation study of cognitive complexity and Big Five personality traits (measured by Czech version of NEO-FFI by Hřebíčková & Urbánek, 2001). The article gives a summary of main findings of our studies and briefly sketch out the questions and hypotheses for future research on the complexity of thought.

Islamic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Author(s): Metin Çınaroğlu / Language(s): English

This seminal work presents an innovative therapeutic model that seamlessly blends the established techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with the rich spiritual and ethical traditions of Islam. Across twelve insightful chapters, the book meticulously outlines the foundational principles of CBT, its historical evolution, and the ways in which Islamic teachings can enhance and inform therapeutic practice for Muslim patients. Beginning with a deep dive into the core concepts of CBT, the book elucidates the definition, methodology, and practical application of this evidence-based therapy. It traces the philosophical roots of CBT, highlighting the contributions of key figures in the field and charting the development of various CBT approaches that have shaped contemporary practice. This historical context sets the stage for a comprehensive exploration of Islamic perspectives on mental health, where the book examines the congruence of Islamic teachings with psychological principles. The second chapter is dedicated to the integration of Islamic concepts with mental well-being, offering a historical overview and a discussion of core principles. It presents a nuanced analysis of Quranic verses and Hadiths concerning psychological health, placing them in dialogue with Western psychological models. This is followed by an examination of the contributions of Islamic philosophy to psychology, the role of spiritual practices in promoting mental health, and the unique approaches Islam offers for coping with stress and mental health issues. The book also addresses the vital role of Islamic religious scholars in mental health support, paving the way for a future where Islamic psychology aligns with global mental health efforts and education. The heart of the book lies in its practical application. The third chapter details the ethical and practical considerations of integrating Islamic principles into CBT, from adapting CBT models with Islamic teachings to tailoring therapy to individual needs. It introduces manualized therapy protocols that provide a step-by-step guide for therapists, ensuring consistency in therapy while being responsive to the patient’s evolving needs. This section is crucial for practitioners, offering detailed strategies for cognitive restructuring, behavioral interventions, and problem-solving, all through an Islamic lens.In addressing the therapeutic relationship, the book underscores the importance of building rapport and trust, exploring the competencies required for therapists to navigate the dual roles they may play in the therapeutic setting. Ethical and professional issues such as informed consent, confidentiality, and the challenges of ethical navigation in therapy are examined in depth, ensuring that practitioners uphold the highest standards of professional conduct.Research and evaluation in Islamic-modified CBT are critical for its ongoing development and credibility. The book discusses outcome measurement, quality control, and the importance of identifying gaps in current research to advance the field. Training and supervision for practitioners are also covered, highlighting the need for rigorous training requirements and models to equip therapists with the necessary skills and knowledge. The book does not shy away from the challenges and limitations faced in practice, providing strategies for addressing common obstacles and ensuring the therapy remains effective and culturally sensitive. It concludes with a visionary chapter on future directions, emphasizing the need to expand the reach and practice of Islamic-modified CBT to better serve Muslim communities globally. In conclusion, this book is a trailblazing text that offers mental health professionals a comprehensive framework for incorporating Islamic teachings into CBT. It stands as a testament to the potential for psychological healing that honors both the empirical rigor of CBT and the spiritual richness of Islam, offering a model of therapy that is both innovative and deeply respectful of the cultural and religious backgrounds of Muslim patients. With its scholarly depth and practical guidance, the book promises to be an invaluable resource for advancing mental health care in diverse Muslim populations, encouraging a holistic approach that nurtures the mind, body, and soul.
