Czas wolny dziecka a praca zawodowa rodziców

Czas wolny dziecka a praca zawodowa rodziców

Author(s): Katarzyna Smolik / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2011

A family is a community which forms a natural and unique environment where a person is born, develops and grows up. It is one of the reasons why it is an important object of research. Although there have been many changes in the functioning of families – some of them worrying – and even though a family encounters a lot of obstacles relating to children’s upbringing, a family remains a fundamental and the most important social group. Spending time together by family members has a special place in forming a family community. Leisure time is indispensable for a proper functioning of an individual in their social environment. Children need help mostly from their parents to be able to use their free time well. This is why one of the most important roles a family has to play is to teach free time management. New, changing living conditions of a family raise a number of questions. This thesis includes a report of research relating to participation of professionally active parents in organizing their children’s free time and provides answers to these questions: What are the current forms of spending free time by children and adolescents?, and Do members of families spend their time together and how? This research was conducted in Wadowice district.

Hindrance Stressors, Career Plateau, Work-Related Depression and Emotional Exhaustion among Flight Attendants

Author(s): Homayoun Pasha Safavı,Mona Bouzarı,Taraneh Foroutan / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

Purpose – The present study bears numbers of prospective contributions by pointing to neglected issues in hospitality management and service literature. Specifically, it applied job demands-resources model to test a conceptual model to check whether career plateau (CP) acts as a mediator in the relation between hindrance stressors (HSs), work-related depression (WRD) and emotional exhaustion (EE). Design/methodology/approach – Data was collected from flight attendants in public and private airlines in Iran via their direct supervisors through judgmental sampling technique. One-hundred ninety-two flight attendants participated in the study. Structural equation modelingwas applied for data analysis. Findings – The results confirm that HSs are significantly associated with CP and CP is directly related to WRD and EE. The results similarly proved that CP acts as a mediator in the aforementioned relationships. Discussion – This study connects HSs on WRD and EE through CP. Inspecting the mediation impacts of CP in this relation seems noteworthy since it is largely overlooked in the relevant service literature. The results showed that HSs enhance CP. Moreover, the existence of CP elevates strain. That is, plateaued employees feel ignored by their organizations, and this boosts their feeling of WRD and EE. Implications – Managers should help crew members in understanding their responsibilities through establishing a clear job description consisting of clear responsibilities, tasks and goals. Managers should take proactive approaches to decrease job demands and deal with plateaued employees. They should put enough effort into changing these employees’ perceptions and negative attitudes toward their job.

Author(s): Ferhat Ayyıldız,Duygu İrem Çam,Yasemin Kuşdemir / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 1/2021

Purpose – The COVID-19 outbreak has a negative impact on many areas of life, so various measures are taken to ensure social isolation. Beyond these measures, some expectations of employees have emerged from their organizations to overcome their concerns about health and safety. Organizations make some arrangements to meet these expectations and protect the existing workforce. While some of the employees continue to go to workplaces, some of them have started to work from home due to arrangements. The aim of the current study is to investigate the relationship between working from home (WFH) during the outbreak and the intention to leave and the mediator role of perceived quality of work life in this relation. Design/methodology/approach – The relational scanning method was used in the research. Snowball sampling method was used to reach the participants and data were obtained from 292 white collar employees who answered the online survey. Data collection tools consist of the Demographic Information Form which contains information about working from home, Quality of Work Life Scale and Intention to Turnover Scale. It was evaluated by correlation and multiple hierarchical linear mediator regression analysis in the SPSS 21 package. Findings – The multiple hierarchical linear mediator regression analysis indicated that WFH in the outbreak process had a negative relationship with the intention to leave and perceived quality of work life mediated this relationship. Discussion – WFH seems to respond to basic needs of individuals in health, safety and economy issues during the outbreak and thus they want to continue working in their current organizations. In order to protect the benefits of WFH in the post-outbreak process, attention should be paid to match this system with the expectations of individuals.

Purpose – In this study, it is aimed to examine and interpret bank employees' job insecurity, leadership style, and locus of control perceptions according to demographic variables. Design/methodology/approach - The research model was created by comparing the variables of job insecurity, leadership style of managers and locus of control with a total of 11 demographic variables. Survey method was preferred for data collection. Banks Association of Turkey (TBB), dated 12.31.2018 "distribution according to provinces and territories of bank employees" were taken into account the number of employees in the report. In this context, a total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to all commercial banks operating in Antalya, Isparta and Burdur provinces and analyzes were carried out on a total of 383 questionnaires. As a data collection tool, Ashford, Lee and Bobko (1989), consisting of 9 statements; De Witte (1999); The scale was created by Hellgren, Sverke, and Isaksson (1999) to measure the perceived job insecurity and translated into Turkish by Şeker (2011) (Dede, 2017: 135), developed by Liden and Maslyn (1998) and Baş et al. (2010), the 12-item leader-member interaction (LMX) scale, which has four subdimensions: loyalty, influence, contribution to change and professional respect, which was revised by Bolat (2011: 194-195) and adapted to Turkish by Spector (1988). Dr. Locus of control scale was used, which was translated and adapted into Turkish by Mustafa PAKSOY (Özbezek, 2018: 101). The analysis of the data was analyzed with the SPSS 23 program and the results were interpreted. Findings – As a result of the analysis, gender did not show any difference in terms of leader member interaction, locus of control and job insecurity. Regarding the age variable, the group with the highest perception of quantitative job insecurity was found to be those between the ages of 26-30. Employees in the 26-30 age group think that they will completely lose their jobs (quantitative job insecurity) compared to bank employees belonging to other age groups. There was no significant relationship between the perception of job insecurity and education level in terms of both main and sub-dimensions. Discussion – As banks operate in the financial sector of technology, the rapid realization of current developments causes a number of concerns for bank employees, the loss of their jobs or the loss of their qualifications. Bank employees are not only affected by their perceptions of job insecurity, but also by the leadership style of their managers and the type of locus of control they have.

Purpose – In this study, the mediator role of the sense of hopelessness as a psycho-social resource absence in the effect of organizational silence on the happiness of employees at workplace is examined. As a result of the literature research, it is thought that the silence that occurs at the organizational level may affect the happiness of the employees at the workplace. In addition, it is assumed that hopelessness may have a role as a mediating variable in the effect of organizational silence on happiness at workplace. Design/Method/Approach – The research was carried out on 402 white-collar individuals working in the service sectors (education, health, marketing and banking) in the province of Istanbul. Simple linear regression and the Hayes Process macro extension were used to test the hypotheses in the research, in which the convenience sampling method was used, and the data were tested with the Statistics Package Developed for Social Sciences (SPSS version 22). Results – The findings (N=402) show that there is a significant relationship between organizational silence and happiness of employees at workplace, hopelessness (β =-,406; LLCI=-.4905 ve ULCI=-.3205; β = .304; LLCI= -.3812 ve ULCI= -.2282, respectively). However, it has been determined that there is a significant relationship between organizational silence and the sense of hopelessness, and it has been observed that hopelessness, which has a mediating role in this relationship, directly affects the relationship between organizational silence and happiness at workplace (β = -,223; LLCI =-,2873; ULCI = -,1600). Discussion – With this study, it was thought that organizational silence might have an effect on the positive emotional states of employees, such as happiness at workplace. Considering the importance of feeling happy during their staying time at work, especially for employees who spend at least one third of the day at their workplace, the starting point of this research is that the obligation to remain silent can be an important obstacle to being happy and reduce the motivation for happiness.

COVID-19 Fear and Psychological Distress: Mediator and Moderator Effects of Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies

Author(s): Ezgi Tuna,Haticenur Koçak,Senanur Sayınta,Başak Gürül / Language(s): English Issue: 30/2023

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a worldwide threat to individuals’ physical and psychological well-being. Empirical studies show that fear and anxiety are among the most common reactions to the pandemic. There is evidence that fear of COVID-19 (FCV) may contribute to elevated levels of psychological distress and if not regulated effectively, it might create a vulnerability for the initiation of psychological problems. The purpose of the current study was to explore the mediator and moderator role of cognitive emotion regulation (CER) strategies in the relationship between FCV and psychological distress. Data was collected from 587 Turkish adults (Mage = 37, SD = 15.25) via online self-report questionnaires on FCV, CER strategies, and measures of psychological distress. We tested a multiple mediation model predicting psychological distress from FCV with CER strategies as mediators. The model was significant and among the CER strategies acceptance, rumination, catastrophizing, and blaming others partially mediated the association between FCV and psychological distress. The moderator role of acceptance was also significant, indicating a stronger relationship between FCV and psychological distress among those with more frequent use of acceptance as a CER strategy. Our findings indicate that the use of CER strategies plays a role in the link between FCV and the level of psychological distress. Targeting the use of less adaptive strategies might be an effective way to improve psychological well-being during the pandemic.

İşsizliğin Azaltılmasına Yönelik Kamusal Müdahale: Çalışma Saatlerinin Düzenlenmesi

Author(s): Uğur ÇİÇEK,Neslihan Koç / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 22/2023

This study examines the effect of shortening weekly working hours on unemployment. At the same production level, employees working less time means more people working. In the study, it is predicted that reducing weekly working hours will reduce unemployment, provided that the income level of employees remains constant. Taking the studies and published reports as data, the results show that although shortening weekly working hours has positive effects, it is not welcomed in the labor market due to the increased costs it creates for employers. This negative impact can be eliminated by reducing the financial burdens on employers with financial aid and subsidies provided by the state. Although the study's findings are that this system will reduce unemployment, it is necessary to support it with public policies for this system to be implemented.
