Affective Studies in Poland: Probing the Field

Author(s): Ryszard Nycz / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2017

Introduction to the issue of Teksty Drugie devoted to affective studies in literature, art and culture. The author points to three major characteristics of this approach. First, its manifest-like form (i.e. pursuing a narrow – affective – research project in order to expose the cognitive profit of such an undertaking on the expenses of a partial and biased image. Secondly, it subscribes to a certain methodological “turn”, as descriptive categories turn into analytical procedures transforming traditional shape of the whole discipline in question. Thirdly, it is an inherent element of the generic understanding of culture as a creative activity, which brings to life phenomena which would remain obscure without its external and caring intervention.

AİLE TERAPİSİ MODELİNDE SATİR’İN KULLANDIĞI KAVRAMLAR VE TEKNİKLER-I

Author(s): Neşide YILDIRIM / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 43/2019

Virginia Satir (1916-1988) was one of the pioneers in developing her own approach to working with families and emphasizing the importance of communication patterns in family therapy. According to her, problematic people form a personality type by moving away from their real identity in the family and taking on different communication patterns such as “accusing”, “calming”, “distracting attention” and “calculating”. Satir firstly created the “Family Sculpture and updated the problem of the family and then focused on the change. She brought the man and woman (parents) to face the landscape and updated the events. Thus, the events in the family were identified, photographs were taken, put in front of individuals, social problems (illnesses) were identified and the family faced with its problems. Then, she focused on change and helped to maintain the family balance. She conceptualized the “Family Map”, “Family Chronology” and “Family Sculpture” for the diagnosis of the problem. She conceptualized what is happening as “Updating”. Then she used the concepts of “Communication Games”, “Talk and Look” and “Touch” for change.

Employee’s perception of organizational support is related to general beliefs concerning the extend to which organization values their contribution or cares about their well-being. Perceived organizational support is strongly associated with affective commitment which is one of the dimensions of organizational commitment. In particular, the role of job satisfaction of employees in this relationship are found quite a few in the literature. Some researchers thought it would be a mediating role on the relationship between perceived organizational support and affective commitment. Consequently, the mediating role of job satisfaction on the relationship between perceived organizational support and affective commitment were examined in a largescale public institution. The relationships between the variables were measured using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the data which is obtained from 844 employees. According to the findings of SEM, perceived organizational support have a significant and positive impact on employee’s affective commitment and job satisfaction. Algılanan Örgütsel Destek ve İşe İlişkin Duyuşsal İyi Oluş Halinin Üretkenlik Karşıtı İş Davranışları Üzerine Etkileri: Hizmet Sektöründe Bir Araştırma

Author(s): Ayşen Akbaş Tuna,Yasin Boylu / Language(s): Turkish / Issue: 4/2016

This study examines whether perceived organizational support and job-related affective well-being in the service sector impact counterproductive work behaviors exhibited by employees. Multivariate statistical methods such as descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling were used to analyze the questionnaire responses. The findings of this study reveal that perceived organizational support impacts job related affective well-being. Accordingly, while a positive impact exists between perceived organizational support and positive emotions, a negative impact exists between perceived organizational support and negative emotions. In addition, perceived organizational support partially impacts counterproductive work behaviors of employees such as theft of organizational property, withdrawal behavior, and abuse. Using employee emotions as a mediating variable as per the Job-related Affective Wellbeing Scale, we found that positive emotions do not impact employee theft, withdrawal behavior, and abuse, whereas negative emotions positively and significantly impact these behaviors. Furthermore, negative emotions play a mediating role in the relationship between perceived organizational support and counterproductive work behaviors.

AN ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC NORMATIVITY AND COMMUNICATION AS A RESPONSE TO OBJECTIONS TO A BIOPSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATION FOR LINGUISTICS

Author(s): Jonathan J. Life / Language(s): English / Issue: 16/2017

This paper addresses the common-sense objections to a biopsychological understanding of natural languages. Some traditional notions of shared public languages are problematic for various reasons, both logical and social. It is argued, however, that a modest pragmatic analysis of linguistic norms is defensible, and can illuminate the nature of communication without abandoning a biopsychological perspective. An attempt is made to flesh out Jackendoff’s notion of the “tuning” of semantic representations for the purposes of communication (Jackendoff, 2002). Ultimately, it is argued, a biopsychological perspective remains the best-justified hypothesis for the foundation of core theoretical linguistics.

An Analysis of the Barriers to Inclusion of Children with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (besd) in the Contexts of Greece and England

Author(s): Katerina Lykourgioti / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2017

Children with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD) are at high risk of experiencing exclusion in both England and Greece. However, this particular category of Special Educational Needs (SEN) has so far received relatively little academic or political attention in comparison to other SEN. This paper attempts to point out the barriers that may prevent the inclusion of children with BESD both in terms of the theoretical conceptualisation of the category itself and in terms of the policies and practices that England and Greece may implement. In order to achieve a further yet coherent picture of the current situation, this paper has identified three different types of factors that may negatively influence inclusion. Therefore, by discussing the possible ideological, structural, and practical challenges, the paper aims to highlight the crucial need for further theoretical insight that would be able to inform and promote the establishment of a more cohesive and efficient legislative framework for pupils with BESD in both countries.

An Example of a Model for Practicing Community Mental Health Nursing: Recovery

Author(s): Beyhan Bag / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2018

There are some uncertainties about the services that will be offered to patients with mental disorders in the community mental health centers opened in our country. One-fourth of the employees in these centers are nurses. This is an important figure that could affect the quality of the services offered. In order to improve the quality of the services offered, nurses need models that can be applied in the field. In this sense, “Recovery” model, is a model that is quite suitable for the community mental health services which centers the individual as a part of its basic philosophy. The aim of this study is to define the “Recovery” model and to discuss it as model for the treatment and maintenance of patients by nurses working in community mental health centers.

Author(s): Ferenc Erős / Language(s): English / Issue: 01/1991

When I began studying psychology in the mid 1960s at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, the name Ferenc Mérei could hardly be spoken above a whisper. Indeed, only through whispers did one learn that Mérei was a free man once again, and had found a job: as a clinical psychologist at the National Institute for Mental Health.

An overview of research on romantic relationships. The case of negative emotions

An overview of research on romantic relationships. The case of negative emotions

Author(s): Andreea Ursu,Maria Nicoleta Turliuc / Language(s): English / Issue: 16/2018

The universal human tendency to form close relationships, the basic needs satisfied by social relationships and the centrality of them to human existence were ones of the most important reasons why people started to research the concept of close relationships and its impact on the daily life. In the last 4 decades, the studies of the interpersonal relationships have been one of the favorite areas in the social psychology. The several strong theories and highly generative research paradigms on interpersonal relationships are the result of researchers’ interest in this concept. A central role was played by the romantic relationships concept. At the beginning of the 1980s, the publication of studies on relationship types began, and later on, articles on theories about factors of formation, development, maintenance and dissolution of one romantic relationship were published. Across time, they discover that social relationships represent the context in which people experience their most intense emotions, both positive and negative. Especially, the experience and expression of emotions are influencing the formation, maintenance and dissolution of close relationships. Thus, based on these assumptions, this paper is an overview of synthesizing (a) how the concept of romantic relationships is view by different theories; (b) what are the benefits of them; and (c) which type of negative emotions are experienced within a romantic relationship.

Analiza mitu piękna kobiecego ciała na podstawie wybranych reklam i sztuki krytycznej

Author(s): Małgorzata Karczmarzyk,Agnieszka Bzymek / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 02/2015

The definition of beauty in the 21st century, which comes from advertising and art, has become a critical contribution to the attempt to analyse some artistic actions and events which make use of popular culture reconstructing the social reality as well as building a different semantic perspective. The postmodern body has been commodified, offered for sale, or has become an icon presenting current cultural, medical or aesthetic trends and canons. In our speech we would like to study the critical art discourse centered around a disagreement with the universally applicable carnality image of a woman whose body is subjected to aesthetic restrictions and repressed by a beauty myth of victimization. The body becomes a tool serving the interests of large marketing corporations which, by creating an artificial myth of the beauty of a female body, shape it according to their own preferred framework. Starting from the philosophical and emancipatory reflection, we aim to show in this article that the body in culture is presented according to the prevailing discourse of power. Finally, we will try to mention the importance of corporeality in the world media, where it often becomes objectified.

Author(s): Valerii Prostomolotov,Alina Prostomolotov / Language(s): Russian / Issue: 1-2/2019

The article is dedicated to the comparative analysis of jealousy tackled in artistic literature, particularly in Eugene Onegin written by A. S. Pushkin. In the research we were guided by the recommendations of K. Leonhard and Ganushkin’s work - that in the artistic literature, there are wonderful abundant descriptions that reflect the human psychology that must be used in psychological science. Both the characters in „Eugene Onegin” by A. S. Pushkin and those we have consulted were subjected to psychological analysis by us, as it is proceded in clinics where patients are analyzed. During the psychological study of the characters of the novel „Eugene Onegin”, we have clarified in detail many nuances in the field of relations between men and women, especially the causes of jealousy.
