Human Rights Education in the Context of the European Policy against Discrimination based on Disability: the Main Challenges Faced by the Disable Population in the Area of Freedom and Security

Human Rights Education in the Context of the European Policy against Discrimination based on Disability: the Main Challenges Faced by the Disable Population in the Area of Freedom and Security

Author(s): Bogusława Bednarczyk / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2016

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it aims to present the current challenges and opportunities facing by the European antidiscrimination policy, and second it aims to move beyond the myth and stereotypes to take a closer look at ‘rights parity’ for disable people. It seeks to off er an overview of the problems of educational discrimination and disadvantage faced by disabled people, and the current legislative and policy measures for addressing these at international and EU levels. It examines some of the gaps, and barriers to effective implementation of measures in the field of education and training, highlights areas where further eff orts is needed and makes some recommendations for actions at European, national and educational institutional levels. The author formulates thesis saying that the large number and diversity of legal acts concerning disabled people raises social awareness in this area, at the same time causing, however, an informational chaos in which it is hard to point to the instruments of efficient execution of such rights.

Grywalizacja jako klucz do zwiększenia zaangażowania młodego pokolenia w działania społeczne.

Grywalizacja jako klucz do zwiększenia zaangażowania młodego pokolenia w działania społeczne.

Author(s): Marta Du Vall / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2018

Many NGOs are active in social media, which today should be considered not only as a tool of marketing communication, but as well as a space in which are carried out functions assigned to civil society, including: education, mobilization and integration. It seems that one of the ways to attract the attention of young Internet users (ie. 3F generation – fun, friends, feedback) and raising the level of their involvement in social activity is to use elements of games in the context of the activities carried out by NGOs. Creating a meaningful and extraordinary experience, in which our target group can get involved directly.

Trening empatii jako metoda zapobiegania zachowaniom agresywnym w grupie dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym – doniesienia wstępne

Author(s): Ewelina Wild,Jakub Lickiewicz,Marta Makara-Studzińska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 4/2018

The work concerns the issue of the influence of the training on the empathy and the aggression in group of children 6–9 years old. The subject of the research was to determine the level of aggression in group of children 6–9 years old, conducting training of empathy, and re-examination of the level of aggression. Aggression was examinated by modified version of questionnare ‟My life in school” created by Tiny Arora, with polish adaptation by Tomasz Kołodziejczyk. The empathy training included eight exercises, the aim of which was to develop skills related with empathy. There was 100 students of elementary school in the study group, 52 girls and 48 boys. A conducted statistical analysis confirmed the correlation between the empathy training and the level of aggression in whole study group. However, a hypothesis about relationship between sex and effectiveness of training weren’t confirmed. Both boys and girls empathy training brought results, although it was more effective in first group. The empathy training was proven to be effective. It reduced the level of aggression in the study group of 100 children 6–9 years old. These findings prompted to number of doubts and thoughts about its implementa on and encouraged to reflection the improvement of future research trials. It is certain, however, that empathy training reduces aggression and can be an effective tool in dealing with aggression at school.

Konflikty i przemoc w rodzinie. Perspektywa praktyka

Konflikty i przemoc w rodzinie. Perspektywa praktyka

Author(s): Robert Florkowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2023

Rodzina zazwyczaj odgrywa kluczową rolę w społeczeństwie pomimo zróżnicowań kulturowych. Z jednej strony powstają i ewoluują społeczno-kulturowe wzorce zachowań w rodzinie, z drugiej zaś paradygmaty te są weryfikowane poprzez rzeczywiste funkcjonowanie rodzinne.

Wzorce przemocy – w poszukiwaniu podobieństw i różnic pomiędzy rodzinami Polek i Ukrainek (przypadek dolnośląski)

Author(s): Kamilla Dolińska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2023

Podstawę empiryczną stanowią wyniki badań jakościowych zrealizowanych w 2023 r. w ramach projektu „Wzorce przemocy w rodzinach ukraińskich i ich zakotwiczenie w strukturach aksjonormatywnych ludności ukraińskiej, napływającej – w wyniku konfliktu zbrojnego z Federacją Rosyjską – do Wrocławia”.

Prywatne czy publiczne? Reagowanie na przemoc domową w opiniach migrantek z Ukrainy

Prywatne czy publiczne? Reagowanie na przemoc domową w opiniach migrantek z Ukrainy

Author(s): EWA BANASZAK,Julita Makaro / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2023

Author(s): Leoš Zatloukal / Language(s): Czech Issue: 2/2023

Couple psychotherapy is a distinct and developing field of psychotherapy. In this text, attention is given to one approach to psychotherapeutic work with couples, namely the solution-focused approach. The aim of the text is to introduce the solution-focused approach and the possibilities of its practical application in the context of couple psychotherapy. In the first part of the text the principles of the chosen approach and the basic methods that can be used in couple psychotherapy are presented. At the core of the text are two areas that are particularly relevant to working with couples using the solution-focused approach and that also present some challenges for psychotherapists using the solution-focused approach in couple psychotherapy. The first of these areas is how to integrate the partners' perspectives in the therapy session so that they can be heard, accepted, and further developed in conversation in a useful way. The second area, which receives more detailed attention in this text, is the negotiation of preferred futures (i.e., ideas of desired change) with partners. It describes how to develop a shared description of preferred future with partners and how to work in situations where partners' ideas about preferred futures are different or even contradictory. The text is supplemented with examples from the author's practice as well as illustrative examples.

Párová terapie a deprese

Párová terapie a deprese

Author(s): Aleš Neusar / Language(s): Czech Issue: 2/2023

This article focuses on couple therapy when addressing depression. The initial part of the text centers on the impact of relationships on depression. Troubled intimate relationships can act as a causal factor in the onset and even chronicity of depression. The second part describes the circumstances in which couple therapy for depression may be advantageous or even superior to individual psychotherapy. This is particularly relevant when depression is intertwined with negative relational dynamics and mutual interactions between partners, a relatively common occurrence. Nevertheless, couple therapy can also prove beneficial in healthy partnerships. Possible risks or contraindications for couple therapy in cases of depression are also discussed, such as when it fails to challenge the discourse that it is “solely about depression”. The third section delves into couple therapy for depression, primarily from the perspective of narrative psychotherapy. Throughout the text, the author not only cites the works of other authors but also draws from personal experiences with couples grappling with depression and insights gained from interviews with fellow professionals in the field.

Author(s): María Mora-Aznar / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2023

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted, after more than 3 years of declaration, not only in the emergence of a “new normal” but in a change in the paradigm of 21st century medicine, going from providing our patients with comprehensive care, holistic and personalized, to a “war medicine”, leaving behind a deterioration in the functioning of the Spanish public health system and a wound of wear and tear that is difficult to heal among the health workers who fought during this international emergency. The present study has demonstrated a high incidence and prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among the health workers surveyed, an exhaustion that has affected their work and the quality of care that they provide to users of the Spanish health system.

Burden, anxiety, and depression in caregivers of Alzheimer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Dominican Republic

Burden, anxiety, and depression in caregivers of Alzheimer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Dominican Republic

Author(s): Gelanys Castro-Tejada,Franck Díaz-Garelli,Jesabelle D. Domínguez-Garcí,Alicia H Mauricio C.,Angel L. Rodriguez Lockward,Issaell Hernández,Karina Gomez R.,Karla Díaz Mesa,Lisemaine Dieuveuil,M. Rodriguez Tavarez,Melani Peña,Martin Medrano / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) advancement imposes tremendous burdens on caregivers, increasing the patient’s dependency demand. Confinement and social interaction disruption increase the risk of mental health problems. We aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic confinement on AD patients’ caregivers, hypothesizing that the superimposed burden can affect their mental health. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study on 221 caregivers of Alzheimer’s disease patients in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Caregivers were evaluated using the short form Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Yesavage Depression Scale (GDS) using scores and intensity as outcome measures. Results: Participants’ ages ranged from 18-76years, with 82.4% female. The intense burden was present in 59.3% of caregivers, severe anxiety in 19.5%, and 32.6% with symptoms of depression. Pearson coefficients showed positive correlations between anxiety and depression (R2=0.298, p < 0.001), caregiver burden and anxiety (R2=0.313, p<0.001) and burden and depression (R2=0.216, p=0.001). Conclusions: During the pandemic, caregivers had an intense burden. Anxiety and depression are associated with this burden; therefore, to mitigate the sequels of the worldwide COVID-19 confinement, health professionals should include a thorough caregiver mental health assessment when routine consultations resume.

Self-efficacy and conscientiousness in caregivers of the mentally challenged: a randomized controlled trial

Self-efficacy and conscientiousness in caregivers of the mentally challenged: a randomized controlled trial

Author(s): Aikaterini Koutrouki / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

Little research has evaluated the obstacles and challenges that complicate the daily life of mentally challenged individuals and their caregivers. The involvement in the provision of care for the mentally challenged constitutes a lifetime commitment for their family members that form the main core of care, compelling them both to experience most of the health-care inequalities in comparison with the rest of the general population. Self-efficacy and conscientiousness consist two behavioral signatures/personality traits that guarantee the uncompromising enthusiasm and undivided commitment in circumstances that are defined as specifically difficult and demanding, enabling caregivers to adopt in the given conditions. The results of the survey indicate that the involvement in the provision of care for the mentally challenged (N=81) is not random and doesn’t depend on the score of the Intelligence Scale, but is in fact the result of a conscious selection, a mental commitment, whose success is ensured by the perception of self-efficacy and conscientiousness, that are statistically significant and at the same time bidirectional. Furthermore, the survey also indicates that caregivers who chose willingly to take care of the mentally challenged, have a statistically significant higher self-efficacy perception.

Author(s): Alena Mulderová,Albin Masarik / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 2/2022

The “multi-crisis environment” of the contemporary society poses enormous demands on the individual who sometimes lacks effective approaches and resources to cope with them. People in critical situation need external help, but find it difficult to find it. It is an opportunity for the clergyman to get involved in conversation and solution- seeking. He or she is often one of the first to help with facilitation of communication with people around, to provide insight into the scope of the problem, to help him or her express emotions, to bolster his or her self-confidence, to activate sources of support in his or her environment, and to facilitate effective problem-solving. This researchbased study examines the impact of the stress caused by accompaniment on clergy.
