The importance of parental authority and its determinants within the family

The importance of parental authority and its determinants within the family

Author(s): Sławomir Cudak / Language(s): Polish Issue: 40/2022

Parental authority is given by nature, kinship, and preserved or weakened during the period of the procreation family. The aim of this article is, on the one hand, to analyse the importance of parental authority for children’s development, and on the other hand, to analyse the functioning of various elements of life and intra-family threats. Parents in the first stages of a child’s development are the first and most important significant persons who have an impact on their cognitive, emotional and axiological spheres. During school and adolescence, parental authority may develop through emotional ties in the family, attitudes that accept the home atmosphere, a democratic parenting style and a culture of parental behaviour. Children functioning in families in which high, real parental authority is displayed, adopt social values and norms. They identify with the personal characteristics of their father and mother to a greater extent.

Prospective and Retrospective Timing Processes: Theories and Methods

Author(s): Reyhan Ünver / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2023

We experience a flow of time in everyday life. However, according to modern physics, time does not flow. In the psychology and neuroscience literature, different models and explanations have been made to try to answer the question of what time is besides an illusion of flow and to figure out how time is perceived. Different methods have also been used to learn how time is handled and to test how accurate these models are. People process time in two ways: implicitly and explicitly. We are talking about explicit timing when estimating the time interval length. Another distinction, according to the measurement method of time perception paradigms, is between prospective and retrospective time estimations. Although there are theorists who claim that these two methods involve similar cognitive processes, it is thought that different cognitive processes serve to experience and remember a time, depending on whether time perception is measured by the prospective or retrospective time estimation methods. This brings to mind different method-dependent constraints and advantages. As with any other kind of perception study, the method chosen for time perception research should fit the question being asked. This review presents a selective review of time perception studies to make it easier for a researcher planning to study time perception to choose the appropriate method for the study question. The time perception processes and related evidence were examined using prospective and retrospective time estimation measurement methods. But it's important to note that the time perception models and methods talked about in this review are only a small part of a very large field.

EMOTIONS – TENSIONS WITH A SCENT OF DOCTRINAL DISPUTES

EMOTIONS – TENSIONS WITH A SCENT OF DOCTRINAL DISPUTES

Author(s): Adriana Moraru (Dumitru) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 24/2021

An investigation of emotions becomes synonymous with an investigation of man, his behavior and the way he relates to society. Therefore, understanding emotional reality involves the integration of a language that can feed confusion, that introduces ambiguities and that, of course, also brings sometimes insurmountable difficulties in conceptualizing it. The multidisciplinary approach reveals, beyond dogmatic tensions, the interdependence between emotions and physiological, behavioral or experimental response systems. Creative site, emotions facilitate the meeting of internal and external stimuli, their interaction and the generation of reactions that are socially communicated, regardless of the will of the individual.

Author(s): Vladimir Marinov / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The main goal of the article is to explore the possible predictors of romantic relationship satisfaction. The model includes attachment styles, early maladaptive schemas, conflict resolution styles, and emotional expressivity. The instruments to measure the former three and romantic relationship satisfaction were adapted to the Bulgarian cultural context. A total of 308 subjects were included in the study on a random basis. The data show that the secure attachment style, the emotional deprivation schema, and the problem withdrawal conflict resolution style predict romantic relationship satisfaction. The results create an opportunity for professionals in the field of psychology to use new councelling approaches.

Mediated Remembering of Having Been Traumatized Collectively in Recent Hungarian Historical Films: Transmediating Analogue Photography in Post Mortem (2020) and Natural Light (2021)

Mediated Remembering of Having Been Traumatized Collectively in Recent Hungarian Historical Films: Transmediating Analogue Photography in Post Mortem (2020) and Natural Light (2021)

Author(s): Andrea Virginás / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

Analogue photography takes on additional characteristics and functions as it is transmediated in such 21st century Hungarian—e.g. small national, and Eastern European—film historical examples like Post Mortem (Péter Bergendy, 2020) or Natural Light (Dénes Nagy, 2021). The examination of thetransmedial media representation, or simply the transmediation (Lars Elleström) of the oldest electronic mechanic visual medium, analogue photography, shall guide the comparative analysis—meant to assess photography’s features as an apparatus of/for culturally mediating collective traumas within the confines of historical feature filmic narratives, and also in the context of modelling communicative generations in their relationship(s) to identify-crafting collective crises. The aim is to demonstrate that contemporary Eastern European, and more specifically Hungarian filmmakers who belong to a third generation of “memory restorers” (Aleida Assmann) when faced with the First or the Second World War present interesting epistemic constructions on the collective past and offered for common remembrance in the context of the cinematic feature film. The main proposal that the present paper makes as a theoretical argument concerning the multifaceted process of transmediation—in this case the narrative feature filmic transmediation of the apparatus of analogue photography—is that the examined two films, PostMortem and Natural Light, may be conceived of as post-digital age meta-exercises on the role of analogue photography in constructing cultural memories of often collectively traumatic happenings.

INTENŢIILE DE EXPLORARE A CARIEREI ŞI HOTĂRÂREA ÎN RÂNDUL STUDENŢILOR: O PERSPECTIVĂ DE AUTO-GESTIONARE A CARIEREI

Author(s): Ștefana Buhăescu-Ciucă / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The present study aimed to expand the knowledge on the career exploratory intentions and decidedness in the career self-management model of Social Cognitive Career Theory (Lent & Brown, 2013). To predict these career behaviours, we used hierarchical regression and analysed the predictors role of socioeconomic status, social support, career exploration, and decision-making learning experiences, self-efficacy, and outcome expectations. In addition to the career variables included in the Career Self-Management Model, this study also explored the role of work volition, a central variable from the Psychology of Working Theory. Data were collected using an online survey filled in by 235 college students. The results showed that positive emotions and outcome expectations were significant predictors of exploratory intentions, while self-efficacy was a constant significant predictor of career decidedness. Socioeconomic status and work volition were not significant predictors in any of the models.

Levels of Madrasati (M) LMS utilization among teachers

Levels of Madrasati (M) LMS utilization among teachers

Author(s): Hamad Muaybid Alharbi,Habibah Ab. Jalil,Muhd Khaizer OMAR,Mohd Hazwan Mohd Puad / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), attitudes, competence, and behavioral intention are all linked to poor Madrasati (M) utilization and acceptance among teachers. This study aims to examine the extent to which teachers are using M LMS. The impact of these parameters on M LMS usage was quantified using a survey method. Out of the 13,782 people, 374 teachers who use Madrasati in public schools were sampled. This study revealed that levels of M LMS utilization among teachers in schools were significantly affected by PE, EE, SI, FC, competence to use M, and behavioral intention factors. However, teachers’ attitudes have an insignificant effect on M LMS utilization. This finding suggests that the success of M utilization in public schools is not dependent on the attitudes of teachers toward its use. This study examined factors influencing the extent of Madrasati adoption and utilization among teachers.

Author(s): Smaila Balić Rahmanović / Language(s): Bosnian,Croatian,Serbian Issue: 8/2023

Juvenile delinquency is a serious problem faced by society worldwide, which requires attention and solutions at various levels due to its complexity and sensitivity. There are numerous factors that contribute to the occurrence of juvenile delinquency, and due to its specificity and frequency, socio-cultural factors are particularly distinguished, including: family, school, leisure time, mass media, war and post-war situations, economic crises, poverty, unemployment, urbanization, and migration. Juvenile delinquency can have long-lasting negative consequences for the juvenile, family, and society as a whole. Children involved in delinquent behavior are more prone to academic failure, dropping out of school, mental health problems, and further criminal behavior in adulthood. Society as a whole needs to be aware of the problem of juvenile delinquency and make efforts to find long term solutions to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all young people. This paper explores the prevalence of juvenile delinquency in the Una-Sana canton area. The aim of the study is to analyze the data available to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Una-Sana canton to determine the number of juvenile offenders of criminal and misdemeanor acts registered in the past three years in this area.

THE POWER OF THE PLACE WE LIVE: WHAT ROLES DO HOME AND THE COMMUNITY PLAY IN WELLBEING?

Author(s): Katalin Lőrincz,Kornélia Kiss,Zsuzsanna Banasz / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The place where we live has a significant impact on the way we live, feel and assess our lives. Housing conditions, the characteristics of the neighborhood around the dwelling or of the community, and commuting conditions have a relationship with the multidimensional construct of well-being. This paper examines the roles that home and the community play in well-being. Background literature on quality of life, wellbeing and its domains and the role of the place where we live is interpreted in the paper. The empirical analysis aims to describe the relationships between home and wellbeing and the community and well-being. The quantitative method used to conduct this investigation included a representative survey in Hungary. Our results confirm previous research findings in many areas (weak or moderate significant relationships between some sociodemographic and other often-examined well-being domains and well-being) and identify weak and positive significant relationships between home and well-being and the community and well-being. The overall well-being of the Hungarian population is significantly influenced by their attachment to their community.

PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING IN WOMEN WITH INSULIN RESISTANCE AND THE ROLE OF SENSE OF SELF-DIGNITY

Author(s): Agnieszka Gabryś,Małgorzata Gulip / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The aim of this study was to examine the contribution of the sense of self-dignity in accounting for the variability of psychological well-being in women with insulin resistance. The sample consisted of 109 women diagnosed with insulin resistance. The associations between the variables were examined using correlation and regression analyses. The study found significant relationships between dimensions of the sense of self-dignity and psychological well-being in the surveyed women. The loss dimension of the sense of self-dignity had the highest contribution in accounting for all the dimensions of psychologi- cal well-being. Although weaker than for the loss dimension, a statistically significant contribution was also found for the total score of the sense of self-dignity in the surveyed women with insulin resistance.

HEY ROBOT, THE MIND IS NOT ENOUGH TO JOIN THE MORAL COMMUNITY! THE EFFECT OF ASSIGNING A MIND AND A SOUL TO A HUMANOID ROBOT ON ITS MORAL STATUS

Author(s): Paweł Fortuna,Arkadiusz Gut,Zbigniew Wróblewski / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Current research explored the link between beliefs about the mind, the soul, and the moral status (MS) of humanoid robot (HR). Determining the conditions for the assignment of MS to artificially intelligent agents is important from the point of view of their inclusion in the moral community. The indication of the role of beliefs about the mind and the soul is consistent with the tendency to distinguish these two incorporeal entities observed in folk psychology. In an online study, participants (N = 223), who believed in the existence of the mind and the soul, assessed the MS of the HR Sophia and assigned attributes to it; based on this, two dimensions of the mind perception (MP) were distinguished: Expe- rience and Agency. As expected, we found that the participants attributed the mind more than the soul to the robot, and these projections significantly affected the MS of the robot. Path analysis revealed that the dimensions of MP acted as a mediator in the mind-MS relationship, while the soul-MS relation- ship was direct. The analysis of the obtained results leads to a more general conclusion that the soul attribution is a diverse and parallel condition to the mind attribution in individuals.
