In its vast range of variants, the genre of the campus novel continues to thrive and be reinvented by contemporary writers. This essay focuses on a specific subgenre, the contemporary Black campus novel, and I intend to analyze compelling examples of the dualism of nostalgia and counter-nostalgia. While some of these campus-set stories are centered on, for example, murder mysteries and social satire, generally the Black campus novel has a more specific focus: the fictional and satirical representation of Black students and academics at university, constituting a window into the social-political events. With the support of literary and sociological works such as Derek C. Maus’s Post-Soul Satire and Elaine Showalter’s Faculty Towers, I scrutinize Paul Beatty’s The White Boy Shuffle (1996), Zadie Smith’s On Beauty (2005), and Brandon Taylor’s Real Life (2020). While Beatty’s novel creates a post-soul satire (Maus) of the contradictory aspects of US colleges and their effect on African American students, Smith’s On Beauty and Taylor’s Real Life are more centered on nostalgic elements of the coming-of-age process of students coming to terms with their sexuality, family, and their professional future. My article intends to navigate what Janice Rossen calls “a complicated web [that] can be discerned in the texture of university fiction.”

The national interests are a totality of durable values and political reasons for behavior in the foreign and internal affairs and this totality represents the intent of the nation for existence and prosperity. The national interest are the officially expressed, conscious, objective needs of the society resulting from the national values and aimed at the conservation, creation and achievement of favorable conditions for its stable and sustainable existence and development. The overview shows that despite the progress of the EU countries in most of the key aims for reform and update of the education, still more efforts are requested for the achievement of equality. The educational level is important for the determination of the social results. It is almost three times more likely that people with only primary education live in poverty and social exclusion compared to the people with university degree. In the EU the investments in the education have recovered from the economic crisis and have increased in the recent years.

Without any doubt adolescence holds the key to physical, psychological, moral and emotional development, successful adaptation and ultimately psychological wellbeing. Doing so on one side requires mastering social and emotional skills such as empathy. On the other side technological development and progress has changed the direction and the way people communicate, leading to change in the skills adolescents develop and master in order to belong, be capable and to count. Does this mean that those set of skills will replace others or would that mean they build on each other? Using knowlage of cognitive, moral and emotional development of adolescents and looking at the way adolesents perceive their own wellbeing, the current article aims to present the results of a research of the correlation between the empathy levels and psychological wellbeing in adolescence.

The new reality forced us to make transitions, resulting in significant rise of psychological problems and disorders. The crisis is a chance for fostering a new scope of music, based on ancient modes of existence and perception: music as a tool for psychological impact, “manipulating” human mood and activities, creating communities through common experience, overcoming distance and self-insulation. New artistic forms present the shared digital performances as a model of socialization and interaction, stimulation of creativity and spontaneity, improvisations. The change of the scope leads to three paths in the higher music education: for highest level musicians, for digital and applied music artists and for music therapy, based on the healing musical impact. The new tools in education point to the priority of intensive as well as hybrid educational forms, including management and selfmanagement in the curriculum and implementing the gamification as a new approach.

Contemporary conditions are characterized by a high degree of uncertainty, instability, unpredictability, and constant transitions to different types of crises. In such a situation, ensuring national security through effective crisis management is very important for the state's long-term development. Unfortunately, the analyses of the situation and challenges facing the Bulgarian national security system show a critical level caused by objective and subjective characteristics of the state's economic, social and administrative-managerial system, which are different in nature and intensity. The author aims to explore the relationship between crisis management and the state of security in Bulgaria, and on this basis formulate the capacities to overcome the deficits of the national security system. The author concludes that it is necessary to formulate a national doctrine for the long-term development of the Bulgarian state and a new National Security Strategy for the Republic of Bulgaria.
