FORGING THE REFORM: BOLOGNA REFORM BETWEEN THE NATIONAL AND THE EUROPEAN, THE TRADITIONAL AND THE ‘MODERN’

Author(s): Martina Topić / Language(s): Issue: 1/2014

This paper analyses the Bologna reform in Croatia in the context of a broader Europeanization debate. Hence, Bologna is analysed in line with Croatia’s long-term struggle to enforce Europeanization under its own terms. This means that, throughout history, Croatia has made attempts to Europeanise and modernise the country but, at the same time, enforced and maintained the national. This particularly applies to the education sector that has always been the battlefield for enforcing the national. In more recent history, this mostly reflects on the primary and secondary education whereas the higher education is left on its own. However, the higher education is poorly managed and the reform is imposed from the above. Thus, the Bologna reform clearly failed in Croatia. The qualitative research conducted for this study shows dichotomy of the national and the European, as well as the traditional and the modern. The conclusion of the paper is that Croatia is trying to enforce Europeanization under its own terms, which clearly fails every time such attempt is made and results in Europhobia. As a consequence, every reform with European connotation fails, and this happened with Bologna reform of the higher education.

„Kiderült, hogy a KFC jobban fizet…” A végzős építészek átmenete az iskolából a munkaerőpiacra

Author(s): Gabriel Lazăr / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 02/2015

The purpose of this paper is to make a thoroughgoing study on the processes of transition from school to work through architecture graduate students from Romania in the last decade and to observe different professional pathways that individuals take in the context of swift social and economical changes. The concepts and theories that guided me in this paper present a critical perspective on professional stability and security expectations in the architectural career field, expectations created by a strict regulated educational system. Analyzing individual factors (like Schein’s career anchors, perceptions on educational system deficit, perceptions on link between educational system and labour market) and contextual factors (as higher educational expansion impact, economical crisis impact) that influences decisions on professional pathway, it can be observed common characteristics to the other neoliberal professions, characteristics that are explained through Arthur & Rousseau’s concept of “boundaryless career”. This common aspect call in question the exotic character of the architectural career field.

ИСПИТИВАЊЕ СТАВОВА СТУДЕНАТА О РАДУ У ГРУПИ ПРИЛИКОМ УЧЕЊА ЕНГЛЕСКОГ ЈЕЗИКА

Author(s): Ivana Nešić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2016

Communicative approach, that is communicative language teaching, has been used for many years as the most comprehensive approach in teaching foreign languages. This approach was accepted a long time ago in teaching English, but the demand for new ideas which will improve teaching is always present. Besides the description of the communicative approach to language teaching, this paper pays special attention to group work, as one of the most important techniques in communicative language teaching. The aim of this paper is to give insight into students‟ perceptions towards group work when learning English. Research was conducted by means of a questionnaire administered among the students of the Business School of Applied Studies in Blace upon completing the Business English course in the winter semester of 2014/2015. The questionnaire examines the students‟ attitudes towards group work. After the analysis of the results and a discussion, it was concluded that some of the advantages of group work are creating team spirit, developing creativity, as well as improving communicative competence, while the negative aspects of this type of a teaching method are unequal participation of all the group members, as well as the time necessary for organizing activities in group work. Finally, several pedagogical implications which could be significant for the improvement of teaching a foreign language have been proposed.

From Standardization to Diversification of the Romanian Higher Education Institutions by Quality Strategic Approach

From Standardization to Diversification of the Romanian Higher Education Institutions by Quality Strategic Approach

Author(s): Luminiţa Gabriela Popescu / Language(s): English Issue: 25/2015

The Romanian universities are substantially similar in terms of organizational structures, institutional missions and strategic plans, faculty, educational process and so on. The homogeneity of higher education system represents an important theme because it may have, in practice, undesirable effects on university autonomy. Over the longer term, a uniform education system tends to become more inflexible and, as a whole, less efficient. The paper is focus on the diversification of higher education institutions in the specific context of the Romanian university system by integrating the quality strategic approach in the global strategy of the Higher Education Institution (HEI). The present paper brings in highlight the nature of relations between creativity/ diversity and standardization/ predictability and it tries to show that the relation creativity/diversity–standardization/predictability acquires new meanings and dichotomous issue is eliminated, in the context of Quality strategic approach. This research will try to demonstrate that implementation of the quality strategic approach model that we propose, is able to lead to: a) Allowing more varied learning options for students and adapting more strong to their needs; b) Allowing a higher level of flexibility to universities to changes that occur at the social level; c) Providing opportunities for social mobility, more appropriate cover of needson different labor markets (e.g. demand for different specialties), and providing the necessary opportunities for innovation (van Vught 2009).

Изменение ЭЭГ показателей у студентов, занимающихся спортом, после однократной и продолжительной низкочастотной аудиовизуальной стимуляции

Author(s): Mihail Sergeevich Golovin ,Natalia Vladimirovna Balioz,Sergei Georgievich Krivoshchekov,Roman Idelevich Aizman / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2016

The purpose of this study was to investigate the electroencephalographic (EEG) changes in students engaged in sports, after a single and continuous low-frequency audiovisual stimula-tion (AVS) in the regime of rhythmic stimulation of 3-13 Hz and a duration of 25 minutes. We examined the young man of 18-23 years old, students of NSPU engaged in athletics and special-izing in middle-distance running, having first qualified sports category and candidates for mas-ter of sports. The purpose of this study was to investigate the electroencephalographic (EEG) changes in students-athletes after single and course of low-frequency audiovisual stimulation (AVS). After 20–22 AVS sessions an alterations of the EEG parameters were observed compared to the control (power increase of the theta rhythm and alpha-1 subrange, capacity suppression of the alpha rhythm in response to the eye opening reaction). The particular characteristic of a single AVS was a significant decrease in the power of theta rhythm, decrease of the desynchro-nization reaction of alpha-1 waves and increase of alpha-2 waves of activation reaction. After the AVS course the increase of number and appearance of the new correlations between EEG parameters were marked, accordingly to Bechtereva’s ideas about increasing resistance of the organism to the internal and external effects. The described data confirm the ability of the hu-man’s brain to wave entrainment, that can be used to change the functional state and a more successful recovery after exercise.

Systematizing internationalization policy in higher education: Towards a typology

Author(s): Daniela Crăciun / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2015

The internationalization of higher education has become a strategic priority for governments because of the benefits expected to derive from it in the economic, political, socio-cultural and academic spheres. Nevertheless, a review of the academic literature on internationalization in higher education reveals that the concept of “internationalization” has been understood and applied in a variable manner. Considering that internationalization is a central theme in higher education research and practice, this state of affairs is problematic. In response to this situation, this article proposes the establishment of a conceptual typology for the analysis of national internationalization policies as a solution. In turn, such a heuristic device will ease knowledge accumulation, cross-case comparability and disciplined use of terms and procedures. The paper ends by dispelling common concerns related to classifications.
