Summary/Abstract: Cultural intelligence (CQ) contributes to thewellbeing and satisfaction of individuals who are livingabroad or meet members of other cultures and as such itinfluences the professional efficiency and competitivenessof organizations interacting with cross-culturalstakeholders. The paper investigates the impact of theindividual factors (metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral) of CQ on the adjustment of foreigners. The adjustment mechanism is explained in association withthe individual CQ factors, using satisfaction with life as themediator. The results of a PLS-SEM analysis on a sampleof 191 foreign students studying at Czech universities haveshown that all CQ factors, except for the cognitive one,are important in the process of adjusting to newintercultural (cross-cultural) situations. Our researchfurther reveals that the effect of motivational CQ onsatisfaction with life and adjustment is amplified byintercultural competencies and preparation. An individualwho has spent a long time abroad in the past, has comeinto frequent contact with foreigners, knows the foreignlanguage of the country they are staying in or has goodlinguistic skills will be more satisfied in a new country andwill adjust more easily.
