Социологическая экспедиция как исследовательская практика и форма обучения полевой работе

Социологическая экспедиция как исследовательская практика и форма обучения полевой работе

Author(s): Alisa Maхimova,Ekaterina Pavlenko,Ivan Pavlyutkin,Greg Yudin / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2015

The concept of the “sociological expedition” implies various forms of collaborative empirical research, for which ethnographic fieldwork serves as the fundamental model. While this form of training students (“education through research”) is still relatively rare in Russia, in recent years its visibility has grown and its organizers have become more experienced. We were interested in finding out how, in each particular case, the idea of organizing such training retreats for students developed. What are the peculiarities and practical difficulties involved in conducting this kind of research and training? Finally, what role in the educational process should such research expeditions play? Participants in the discussion below note the importance of collaborative field research to students’ professional socialization and reflect about their own experiences of such trips, expressing regret that academic institutions still do not sufficiently support the practice.

The development of autonomous EFL students – the necessity and requirement of present times and the duty of the modern language teacher – on the example of peer feedback

The development of autonomous EFL students – the necessity and requirement of present times and the duty of the modern language teacher – on the example of peer feedback

Author(s): Dorota Czerska-Andrzejewska / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2016

Autonomy and independence were the key values in Western European philosophy, psychology, politics and pedagogy in the 20th century. They are essential in the development of a democratic society (Benson and Voller, 1997). Autonomy in foreign language learning appeared in the 1960s and 1970s while in 1971 the Council of Europe established the Modern Languages Project and founded the Foreign Languages Didactic Centre (CRAPEL) at the University of Nancy, France specializing in systems of learning in autonomy. The theories linking autonomy with peer feedback are those of Bound (1988) who defines the features and behaviour characteristics of an autonomous student. Bound (1988) suggests that an autonomous student undertakes initiative in the areas which require cooperation with other group members and being responsible for their development as well as considering a teacher to be an advisor is what brings autonomy close to peer feedback. Peer feedback is one of the methods in teaching foreign languages where feedback to a student is given by another student, not a teacher. This allows for more opportunities for the student to learn from each other. Peer feedback in foreign language learning provides variety in teaching as well as develops students’ autonomy in the learning process. Dam (1995) and Pawlak (2006) suggest that learner autonomy makes use of peer assessment in the form of peer support and cooperation, whereas the role of the teacher is that of a supporting scaffolding and creating room for the development of autonomy. The aim of this article is to answer the question as to whether it is possible to achieve student autonomy in English by giving oral presentations and by being assessed by one’s peers where the teacher’s role is that of a supervisor, advisor and guide. In this approach the teacher is not the only person providing feedback.

Cultural Items In Reading Texts In EFL Classes

Author(s): Birsen Tütüniş,İlkin Özyayla Başar / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

The article displays a study conducted to find out the cultural items in the reading texts of EFL course books. Byram’s (1993) evaluation criteria were taken as the basis for the study. The quality of cultural context in a textbook plays an important role in language classes. In this study, it is hypothesised that without teaching the culture, one cannot teach a foreign language, and the following research question was put forward: To what extent do the selected EFL course books display the target culture? The text book analysis revealed the fact that cultural items are not sufficiently embedded into the course books to enable the teacher to get involved in teaching culture.

Review and Improved Technique of the Initial Rate Method

Author(s): Maulidan Firdaus / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2019

It is claimed that, in certain circumstances, initial-rate method (IRM) has advantages over the integral method (IM). But, the IRM will only be effective if the con¬centration change is less than 5 % and the rate constant (k) obtained should be checked with IM. There are two main purposes of this research. First, to prove that the claim is invalid and the IRM can be used on broader concentration changes. In addition, the rate law model used in the claimed is invalid for reaction that takes place in two mechanisms. Second, to find a new form of IRM equation, which does not require IM checks. This study used the oxidation of formic acid with bromine as a reaction model. The values of n and k of this reaction at two mechanisms were determined by the IM, and then by the conventional IRM, the method used in the claim, and by the new IRM generated by this study. All of k values are compared by using IM as the standard. The proposed method is claimed valid if the error percentage of k is less than 5 %. Despite the shortcomings, the results show that the new IRM is valid and more reliable.

Изследване визията на студенти педагози относно ролята на изучаването на сезонните изменения за изграждане основите на природонаучното образование в I – IV клас

Author(s): Vanya Petrova,Marian Delchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2019

This study determines the theoretical, methodical and professional readiness of pedagogy students to use the teaching of seasonal changes in order to form the basics of natural science education in elementary schools. The knowledge, observation and analysis of the seasons are among the first ideas, related to natural science, that form in the mind of a child. In our latitudes, where four seasons turn, the impressions and sensory experiences are an important prerequisite for the formation of a complete and detailed sensory base of children’s knowledge. The sensory basis is a key factor in developing important aspects of knowledge in the field of natural sciences (changes and development of natural objects, related to animate and inanimate nature, as well as cyclic recurrence of natural processes) when educating children in the subjects of The World Around and People and Nature. In this process, one of the preconditions for the formation of basic knowledge in natural science is the inclusion of the cause-and-effect approach as a general cognitive scheme in the education

Методологичен подход за откриване на талантливи ученици по природни науки чрез феномените на Жан Пиаже и теста за интелигентност на Бине-Терман

Author(s): Milen Zamfirov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2019

The paper presents a correlation model based on Piaget’s phenomena and Binet-Terman’s intelligence test. This approach provides the opportunity for assessing the mental age through conducting Jean Piaget’s experiments as well as vice versa – through determining Piaget’s stage the IQ can be specified. The suggested model would allow the mainstream teacher as well as the team of experts assisting personality development in the school, to easily orientate in the abilities a student with special educational needs has and to design his/her individual programs so that they would correspond to his/her development.

Зелена химия в училищната лаборатория

Author(s): Alexandria Gendjova,Alexandra Kamusheva,Maya Tavlinova-Kirilova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2019

Despite the great contribution of chemistry, its negative image in society is a serious problem. Green Chemistry (or Sustainable Chemistry) addresses the efficient use of raw materials and waste management and issues related to health, safety and the environment. It offers the opportunity to put ideas of sustainability into school practice. This paper examines the effect of the application of green chemistry in laboratory activities on the study of chemical processes for students in grade 10. For this aim “green” alternatives of traditional experiments on the subject are selected and adapted. The quality and applicability of the experiments and didactic materials are validated through an expert evaluation of 16 teachers. After implementing some of the experiments into the laboratory practices of 70 tenth graders, a survey was conducted with them. The surveyed students gave a high rating to the green attempts: in terms of their: safety, economy, related to everyday life, accessibility, attractiveness. Experimental activities of students lead to their engagement in chemistry classes and Chemistry becomes more interesting, more comprehensible and more accessible to them. The emphasis on green chemistry in laboratory work contributes to the development of environmental awareness and behavior. The attitude of the students towards the subject is improved because they see science in a new, better perspective, as friendly to the environment. It is an effective method of motivating students to study chemistry and influencing their attitudes and emotions towards sustainability and environmental issues.

NARAȚIUNI DESPRE LUME ȘI DESPRE NOI ÎNȘINE. CONSIDERAȚII DESPRE FUNCȚIA TERAPEUTICĂ A POVEȘTILOR

Author(s): Ioana Todor / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2019

From immemorial times people create and use stories to relate and share experiences with others, to inform them, to organize their thoughts, to create their self-image, to know the world and to gain a sense of predictability, to obtain something from the others, to liberate from their own fears, to share joy or sadness, to express love or hate. Narrative psychology is a postmodern approach in psychology based on the assumption that human beings make sense to their world and perceive themselves through the narratives. Narratives are coherent mental structures people construct to organize actual and past experiences, memories, life histories, social and factual knowledge, actions, values, intentions and aspirations etc. The narrative approach(es) has(ve) broader implications in a variety of domains in psychology (such as psychological therapies, clinical, educational, developmental, social, health or organizational psychology). Biographical stories are used as therapeutic tools in experiential psychotherapy and rational stories are used in cognitive therapy. The aim of the paper is to identify and discuss from various theoretical perspectives the roles of narrative in mental functioning and psycho-social adaptation to life events.

Magyartanítás a magyar oktatási rendszer határain kívül. A fakultatív magyarnyelv-oktatás helyzete Erdélyben

Author(s): Erika Keszeg,Tibor Toró / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 4/2018

Although in Romania most Hungarian children study in Hungarian language schools, the state ensures the right for Hungarian ethnic minority children enrolled in Romanian language public schools to also study Hungarian language and literature as an elective subject. In the 2017/2018 academic year there were around 1700 pupils in 64 locations taking part in Facultative Hungarian language classes. The elective language teaching reveals a mixed picture both in terms of the nationality and language proficiency of pupils and of teachers’ considerations. The main objective of the paper is to present this mixed picture and to analyse the main ideologies and problems influencing teaching practices and their practical consequences. The first part of the study presents the legal framework and relevant quantitative data, and then it outlines a possible typology of elective classes. The second part of the paper analyses three main classroom practices, and the related ideologies of the teachers.
