БЕОГРАД НА МАПИ ПРАВОСЛАВИХ ПРЕСТОНИЦА: ТОПОС НОВОГ ЈЕРУСАЛИМА
“The Life of Despot Stephan Lazarevic” by Constantine the Philosopher and it’s descriptions of Serbia and Serbs is close related to the Byzantine rethoric. The writer abides by the encomium. The comparison of Belgrade to Jerusalem and Constantinopolis is not a reflection of their real simularity but a way to bring the medieval Serbian capital closer to the eternal and perfect celestial Jerusalem. Thus, the peace-time work of Despot Stephan has a new dimension as a reflection of God himself, a newstep to the path to the Upper Jerusalem. Belgrade’s relics were: right hand of Constantine the Great, icon of the Belgrade’s blessed Lady, relics of Saint Petka and empress Theophano.
