THE TEXTURE AND CONTEXT IN VRČEVIĆ’S STYLIZATION OF HUMOROUS FOLKTALES

Summary/Abstract: Stylization of verbal material was common practice during the XIX century, and it is clear that it was resorted to by the most important collectors of Serbian folktales of this period - Vuk Karadzić and Vuk Vrčević. Vrčević’s attitude toward stylization of humorous tales involves entering nonverbal elements, which is given special attention in this paper, and cooperation that two Vuks have achieved in this area provides an opportunity to compare the general characteristics of their understanding of folklore and their attitudes towards stylization, which is here taken as phenomena between oral and written model.
