POETICS OF THE MIRACLE

Summary/Abstract: Miracle is one of the most important elements in the composition of hagiographies and in the rich Christian literary tradition it constituted as an independent genre. In the Serbian hagiographic literature it occupies a special place and has it poetic laws. Through the analysis of the most significant hagiographies of Serbian medieval writers we indicated some of the characteristics of miracles. Serbian writers, like other Christian authors in the middle ages, had an awareness of miracles as separate stories and, following this awareness, they shaped a miracle giving it a special place in the hagiographic text.
