THE ISSUES OF SPEECH COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT AT FOREIGN LITERATURE LESSONS

This article deals with the problems of speech competence development in the system of foreign literature studying. It was established that basic directions of studying in the 7th form are to comprehend the text (emphasizing the theme, main thoughts, making plans of images etc.), develop independent thinking and an ability to analyze and make own judgments. An important task of literature education of V-VII form students is to develop an ability to clearly pronounce their thoughts and to choose and use extracts from the texts in verbal and nonverbal speech properly. Based on these criteria of language development for students of each "language age" we develop our own criteria and levels that serve as guidelines for the organization of language activities at the study of literature. Thus, in the work on the development of students' speech in connection with the study of literature, it is necessary to combine three approaches: psycholinguistic, based on the theory of language activity; linguodidactic, which studies the patterns of teaching native and foreign languages and methodological-literary, which takes into account the possibilities of literary studies, criticism and theory of public speaking.

My main responsibility as certified translator-interpreter is expressing different meanings (referential, pragmatic and intra-linguistic) which might stay in the translation, aiming at having as little semantic loses as possible. The mandatory condition during all this complex process of creation is the fair delimitation of different types of meanings, specifically which of those are to be treated as a priority and which do not, given the context. That is why, the highest translation level is the referential one (as the objective reality is more or less the same). The pragmatic meaning is being subjected to transposition as, even if there are same realities described the attitude of different communities towards them is different. And, eventually, the intra-linguistic meaning, which has the minimum degree of transposition. In this way, for legal economic, technique and scientific texts the information is codified mainly referentially, while in the artistic texts the pragmatic level is more important. That being said, I, as certified Translator-Interpreter, will focus on a global investigation of relations and procedures system between globalization, internationalization, localization to clearly see the referential meaning of the object text.

Generally speaking, identity is revealed not only in the actions and attitudes of characters, The affixed derivation is characterized by keeping the suffixation first, in terms of quantitative and qualitative importance, and by a marked increase in derivatives with prefixes. In both situations, the most productive affixes are the neological ones with multiple etymologies. The neological derivation in our language can be achieved in three variants: the neological lexical base + the neological suffix, the lexical base from the old fund (inherited or borrowed) + the neological suffix, the neological lexical base + old suffix (inherited or borrowed). The increase in the number of derivatives depends on the circulation power of the base morpheme. The derivative creativity of the neologisms brings productivity in the sphere of inherited suffixes, selected due to the stable and popular character, as well as for the contrast with modern elements. A current trend in the development of the Romanian language is the ease of obtaining compound lexical elements. The predilection for such internal formations, existing in the current Romanian press, is not a general feature of the writing of this period, but is observable especially in the areas addressed to the young public, generally cultivated, open to novelty, concessional and captivated by the new combinations. The phenomenon of thematic composition highlights the creativity and ability of the current language to assimilate both erudite and internationally successful affixoids.

According to the most recent “National Guidelines for Customized Curriculum in Middle School, Grade I,” the former middle schools tend to take a back seat to curriculum, planning it as mere mnemonic and dogmatic knowledge of data, facts and names, in favor of other, much higher goals: "moving from a primary education to a first grade secondary school means dealing with the problem of a model. [...] Yet to know in a “secondary” manner is to use the constructs of the explanatory mind which are based on an appropriate use of analogy. [...] [In] the mathematical-scientific field [...] special importance is given to the methods, through which the scientific description of the world is elaborated, focusing especially on the process of mathematization of physical objects and on the constitution in consequence of a model that literally replaces real objects"1. These objectives are broad and absolutely necessary to make students become more than simple containers of uncritical notions, but also and above all Italian and world citizens, with broad thinking and their own critical thinking. But these are objectives, which each teachers tend to achieve in their own way, making use of their interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge. The method and the knowledge are often difficult to put into practice with the textbooks provided by the publishers, despite the good intentions of the authors and of the same publishers. It is not unusual for teachers, especially those of humanities, when choosing textbooks, to be confused when they see the available offer. For example, regarding the Italian language, there are books that provide a good anthology of texts, but these textbooks are weak in terms of exercises or explanations. In terms of history, some textbooks tend to skim topics that a teacher might want to explore; or, they offer other outdated exercise books that require notional completion. These are just a few examples. Personally, as a teacher, I tend to integrate the topics covered in different textbooks (Italian, History and Geography) with numerous handouts, as a result of the often present flaws, which I mentioned above. So do many of my colleagues. To overcome these limitations and to deal with different teaching methodologies among different teachers, tools could be created to create modular textbooks, “assembled” by teachers at the beginning of the three-year period, at the beginning of the school year, or during the school year, as the case may be. What I will explain is an idea not only to make teaching work more organic but also to create a more pleasant environment for students.

It approaches the most important aspects related to the synchronous and asynchronous methods of teaching in the on-line, highlighting the most important theories in the field of online teaching of foreign languages, with a main focus on the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, which determines young people to continue the acquisition of information in the on-line system. Last but not least, the article focuses on the way in which students have adapted to teaching languages in the on-line system, with the help of Microsoft Teams teaching platform, as well as Microsoft Forms evaluation platform.

The study aims at elaborating a conceptual vision of correlation of the factors related to an understanding of the text, from the perspective of the literal and contextual comprehension, in tandem with aspects of interferential and integrative understanding. The didactical techniques proposed are presented only as elements of an incipient level of approach for the comprehension of the text, while the fundamental element is represented by the full exploitation of the connotations of the lexeme of the further didactical approach, which is indispensable in any verbal communication. The conceptualization of the connections between the learning paradigms and the methodological framework for the application of the models has as a main objective the development of the frames for the interpretation of the data and elaboration of the methodological structures certified from the perspective of efficiency in application on a personal learning style of the user, while placing the adequate topical techniques as part of the learning strategy.

In the last decade, adult learning has been a constant topic of education research, particularly in the context of the impetus of instruction targeted at adults brought about by rapid technical advancements, increasing intercultural interactions and a constant changing work environment, all of which compel professionals to embrace lifelong learning as a constant coordinate of their active life. In this light, this paper revisits the andragogical model proposed by American researcher Malcolm Knowles from the perspective of its applications in adult learning classrooms. Moreover, it touches upon a number of obstacles encountered in the instruction process addressing adults, analysing their impact upon adults’ decision to enrol in and commit to instruction programs.

The concept of cultural intelligence (CQ) represents the ability of the individuals to relate and act efficiently in cultural contexts different from the ones in which students usually act. Although traditionally the concept of cultural intelligence 9CQ) measures the intellectual performance, in contexts related especially to the economic field, allowing the successful accomplishment of contacts between culturally different business people, it can represent a starting point and support for the correlation of indicators such as empathy, ttrust, emotional intelligence, in the case of international students who choose to study Romanian as a foreign language, as a starting point of their future career. The present study starts from the definition of culture shock for international students that choose to study in a totally different cultural environment from the national one, explaining different stages that they experience, offering information about the techniques for the successful management of this experience and an analysis if the way in which culture shock can be correlated with cultural intelligence (CQ). The research is based on the specific case studies of international students enrolled in the foundation year of Romanian as a foreign language at the Romanian-American University in Bucharest, talking about the initial culture shock, management and then mastering of adaptation in the Romanian environment, highlighting the progress that can be observed in the case of these international students along the two semesters of immersion into the Romanian culture.

One of the challenges of the modern world, with regard to technological developments, is represented by the correlation of concepts such as artificial intelligence or automated learning (Machine learning) with the process of learning foreign languages. Recent studies have highlighted the fact that artificial intelligence can be equipped with thinking similar to human one. More specifically, machines can be programmed, trained and developed for self-learning. Thus, instruments such as Google Home, Siri or Alexa, could be used as assistants during the language classes, changing completely the methodological approach of the teacher. One of the most time-consuming activities, during the language classes, is individual interaction with the students. Artificial intelligence cand be a substitute of the teacher, in the process of improving certain aspects such as pronunciation, vocabulary, conversation. The present study explains the way in which, throughout an entire academic year, Google Home device can be successfully used in the classes of Reception of the written and spoken language, improving oral communication abilities of the students. Technology becomes a type of trainer, which could be compared to a partner in individual study for the student. The research analyzes processes used by the virtual assistant so that it can be trained by the professor to answer the needs of the students in class. The final purpose is to understand how technology can be trained in order to become an efficient partner in the process of teaching-learning foreign languages. Communicative method of teaching foreign languages, which allows the student to discover individually concepts and understand grammatical structures, can be accomplished by connecting with the virtual assistant, while the teacher guides the class, concentrating mainly on the most appropriate form of evaluation and facilitating the learning process, which this way becomes more friendly.

The article has two parts: one dedicated to present different debatable decisions taken in the grammar of the Romanian Language that complicate it, increasing the difficulty level in her understanding and learning, the second is about etymology. Regarding orthography, is well known the controversy of the last decision in using „î” and „â”, as a result of it are written with „î” words as „ânger” („angel”) and with „â” other ones like „a rîde”, „rîu”, „rîpă”. This last rule came as a consequence of a longer row of debatable decisions on the subject and probably the situation was now different if from the beginning would win the partisans of the graphic redaction of altered vowels by primitive ones with a small particular sign, what would make the language more logic, more regular, more similar with the rest of Europeans languages. I think there is no doubt about the controversy of those decisions; nevertheless Romanian Academy strongly fight against forms that she consider incorrect, unlike the Spanish one (Spanish language = „the bigger sister” of Romanian, the most important Romanic language) who’s limiting herself in observing that some forms are erroneous (for example that some verbs, as „reír” or „morir”, should not to be reflexive), without combating, in order to make disappear, that form.

About two decades ago, the study of the phrasal verbs in Italian began, considering them equivalent to the English phrasal verbs, although there are some differences. Among these there are anomalies in the Italian phrasal verbs, according to their idiomatic and/or literal use, because, for example, if we analyze a phrasal verb like "mettere sotto", by applying the transitivity test, we understand that it is a phrasal verb only if it is used idiomatically because in a sentence like “mettere sotto un gatto”, “un gatto” (a cat) is the object of the phrasal verb; if you consider instead a phrase like “putting your shoes under the bed”, it means that “under” represents the head of the noun phrase “under the bed” and, therefore, in this case, it is not a phrasal verb, but a verb and a preposition.

POV Shots in Light of Cognitive Grammar

The paper applies Ronald Langacker’s Cognitive Grammar notions to cinematic editing constructions. Notions like head, complement, autonomous and dependent structures and the concept of elaboration site (e-site) are applied to editing constructions. The e-site represents a schematic region in the situation evoked by a simulation, and plays the role of a simulator and a goal concept. Simulations can contain schematic components that only partially represent entities and event frames, not just detailed representations of them. Starting from grammatical constructions, we will detail the couplings between control models in sequences of POV shots. The visual expression is a composite structure that “inherits’ its profile from a component structure. Different construals and constructional schemas are instantiated by the juxtapositions of shots.The e-site plays the role a goal-concept. Goal-derived categories constitute the mappings between roles in event sequences, and instantiations in the environment. As structures of these mappings emerge, the conceptual system becomes organized around the action–environment interface (Barsalou 2003: 522). Since conceptual representations are dynamically contextualized to support diverse courses of goal pursuit, situated conceptualizations support conceptual inferences via pattern completion. When one part of a situated conceptualization is perceived, the remainder of the conceptualization becomes active, constituting inferences about the current situation. In short, the e-site can be defined as a summary conceptualization that inhabits a schematic region of a simulation, and prompts the film viewer to construct concepts that will categorize other components down the chain of a sequence of shots.In this paper, I describe different semantic construals evoked by a POV sequence of shots. The claim is that sequences of shots are conceptual systems bound by circular loops at several levels. Several configurations of the system coexist and the viewer has the executive control necessary for implementing alternative meaning construals.

In this article, three German verbs of perception (bemerken [to notice], erblicken [to spot] and erkennen [to recognize]) are compared to three selected Czech equivalents with respect to their occurrence in AcI constructions, which at best can be regarded as a marginal phenomenon. In addition to a corpus‑based analysis, we employ structural tests in order to identify grammatical characteristics of these verbs that could be responsible for their peripheral status in AcI‑constructions. For the semantic field of ‘erblicken’, we show that there is a clear divergence between the German non‑AcI verb and the Czech AcI verb, which is apparently due to the more concrete meaning of the German verb reflected in stricter restrictions on filling the second valency slot. The other two verbs are in both languages only potential, not actual AcI verbs.

INTIMACY AND INTERIOR SPACE IN MODERN PROSE

The paper explores the concept of intimacy and inner space in modern prose, analyzing how literature becomes a medium for reflecting the inner world of characters. It focuses on three major directions: literary confession (diaries and autobiographies), the psychological novel (exploration of consciousness and introspection), and the relationship between intimacy and private space (the room, the house, the city as reflections of inner states). A central part of the analysis is dedicated to the female writers of the “Sburătorul” literary group, such as Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu, Cella Serghi, and Henriette Yvonne Stahl, whose works capture intimate dimensions of feminine existence. By comparing these authors with major international modern writers such as Marcel Proust, Virginia Woolf, and F.M. Dostoevsky, the study highlights similarities and differences in the representation of inner space and literary confession. The research demonstrates that modern literature does not merely describe intimacy but also creates it, transforming it into an essential element of the narrative and psychological construction of characters.

The article contains the results of a survey on words within one of the lexical-semantic fields that can be distinguished among Polish secondary school students – the issue of using messages regarding effects/ feelings in informal situations. The aim of the study was to isolate units of articles regarding emotions and their descriptions. Source material for the 1765 survey. Follow-up additional advanced testing descriptive section. The quantitative range is indicated as fields, and its exclusion is displayed based on the survey results. Featured include: colloquialisms (chicken face, embarrassment); profanity (whore); descriptions of the internal state and situation (I made a blunder, it was a disaster); loanwords and their innovations (lofciam, wiksa). The collected material makes it possible to present and partially discuss lexemes, nominative phrases, utterances and sentences used by students from selected secondary schools. The content presented in the article is real material obtained during several years of research.

Processing of unaccusative structures in people with aphasia and healthy population

This paper provides an overview of several studies that investigated processing of unaccusative structures in populations of people with aphasia (PWA) and healthy speakers. Unaccusative structures are known to be notoriously difficult for patients with Broca’s aphasia. In the paper, we address seminal works that proposed The Argument Structure Complexity Hypothesis and The Derived Order Problem Hypothesis to account for the deficits that occur in the production of unaccusative structures in Broca’s aphasia that is characterised by slow and effortful speech. We also refer to studies that explored processing of unaccusative structures in healthy populations. These studies reveal that the moved unaccusative subject is stored in the working memory until the parser reaches the sentence position where the unaccusative argument was merged and then it is reconstructed at that position. We also address the interplay between unaccusativity and the category of aspect that was investigated in some experimental studies. Finally, the paper provides directions for future research in L1 and L2 processing to build upon the state of the art on unaccusativity.

For all of them linguistics is o basic importance: its data and methods show better than those of any other discipline dealing with socialized behaviour the possibility of a truly scientific study of society. Linguistics should, on the other hand, become aware of what their science may mean for the interpretation of human conduct in general.

Terminologia externă a domeniului botanică. Motivarea extralingvistică

The characteristic “motivated” can be attributed to the specialized terms, in opposition to the majority of the linguistic signs that have an unmotivated or arbitrary character from the perspective of the extrinsic relationship between concept and extralinguistic reality. We are aware that the specialized vocabulary does not belong only to the specialists, the use of the terms in other registers of the language is a reality. In this case, there is a complementary relationship between the internal and the external terminology. Extralinguistic motivation is fundamental in terminology and it is illustrated by the relationship between the concept-term and the object belonging to the external world. In linguistics, the motivation is defined as a characteristic attributed to a small number of linguistic signs, as opposed to the majority of signs which have an arbitrary or unmotivated character from the point of view of the extrinsic relationship between the signs and the extralinguistic reality. In treatises, motivation is presented as being: absolute and relative in the case of derivative and compound words; partial (with suffixoids and prefixoids), etymologic (words inherited from Latin and Greek); phonetic, morpho-lexical, semantic; internal, external, intrinsic, phonetic, structural, partially etymologic, secondary etc. We will refer to the phenomenon of extralinguistic motivation because, within the terminology, all types of motivation are subordinated to it. Thus, we identify derivational motivation, accomplished with the help of suffixes and prefixes (capsular, akaryote, aphyllous) and motivation with the help of sematic modellers, respectively suffixoids, prefixoids, roots (hydrophyte, heliophyte, basophile, heliotrope).
