Summary/Abstract: Foreign languages help adults as well as children to expand their cultural and personal boundaries. They can open new horizons by exposing people to new cultures. But what happens when course books present a stereotypical world from which children learn what roles are assigned to each gender? My research exposes the stereotypes in the Planetino series and the extent to which gender roles are presented to learners as something permanent.
