Сложные глаголы ‘образ действия — результат’… (на материале карачаево-балкарского и казахского языков)

Author(s): Pavel Grashchenkov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 04 (15)/2014

The article investigates the Turkic constructions that traditionally have been treated as serializations (auxiliary constructions). These constructions consist of a manner verb juxtaposed with a result verb. The aim of the paper is to show that this kind of constructions is a specific type of coordination, involving reduced verbal projections as opposed to a regular verb phrase coordination.

Современные тенденции изменения в русском синтаксисе (на фоне чешского синтаксиса)

Современные тенденции изменения в русском синтаксисе (на фоне чешского синтаксиса)

Author(s): Stanislav Aleksandrovich Rylov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2020

Democratization of the Russian society in the last three decades, many social and psychological factors are indirectly reflected in language and speech. It is the Russian language that is ahead of other Slavic languages in terms of pace and scope of dynamics. Although syntax is highly resistant to extralinguistic factors, it is greatly responsive to them. The consequence of this is a mass entry of syntactic constructions that violate the traditional syntactic norm into speech usage, as well as the emergence of new phenomena in syntax that require analysis and evaluation. The aim of the paper is to identify the most active changes in the syntax of modern Russian speech against the background of Czech syntax, to define their nature, to discover the manifestation of the main trends of development. The objects of the research are new syntactic phenomena in the structure of word combinations and simple sentences, which are often revealed in Russian speech in the first decades of the XXI century. The material for the study involved texts published in modern Russian periodicals, as well as facts recorded by the author in radio and television broadcasts of the last decade; Czech periodicals were partially involved. The most active changes are analyzed: transposition, expansion of prepositions in subordinate phrases, simplification of the structure of a simple sentence, segmentation, compression, topicalization of the necessary part of the statement, parcelling, innovative changes in the functioning of nonagentive constructions. The revealed changes prove the manifestation of the main tendencies: “democratization” of the Russian syntax, the tendency to develop a new syncretism, the tendency to strengthen analytism.

Thе study presents the methodology of selecting the social media, the topics, the politicians, the universities, the blogs and the forums researched in the project. The focus in the text is on the internet, the www, the social networks and the social media, and how they meet the changing needs of people and the necessity of relevant social media literacy today. The capacity of social media to multiply the uploaded content make them a powerful tool for spreading fake news, misspelling, wrong syntax and word-formation, incorrect use of vocabulary, dangerous ideologies and decadent values. Analyzed are various types of spelling and punctuation mistakes in the observed social media.

Социолингвистични промени при предаване на чужда реч в българския печат през последните две десетилетия в съпоставка с полския печат

Author(s): Russelina Nicolova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2009

The article offers a brief characterization of evidentiality in Bulgarian which, in addition to lexical and syntactic expression, finds morphological expression primarily, and of evidentiality in Polish. Lexical and syntactic markers predominate there and only one construction ma + infinitive in one of its uses approaches the Bulgarian renarrated forms. Two types of sociolinguistic changes in indirect speech, noticeable in the Bulgarian press after 1989, are also discussed: changes in the choice of forms in reports from abroad and in rendering statements made by officials at home.

Сочинительные стратегии энецкого языка

Сочинительные стратегии энецкого языка

Author(s): Olga V. Khanina / Language(s): Russian Issue: 02 (21)/2016

The paper gives a description of conjunctive coordination in Enets (both Forest and Tundra dialects) based on a corpus of natural texts. It discusses both indigenous Uralic strategies, including juxtaposition, a particle with the main meaning ‘again, also, but’, collective Dual, and double Comitative, as well as strategies based on elements borrowed from Russian, i.e. on conjunctions i, da, a. The strategies with juxtaposition, indigenous particle meaning "again, also, but", and i, borrowed from Russian, are considered main, while all the other strategies are called marginal, with the former being substantially more frequent than the latter. Syntactic properties of the main coordination strategies are studied in detail, i.e. syntactic types of coordinated elements and cross-reference of coordinated subjects and objects on the verb. A special attention is given to the semantic distribution of the main strategies: they are shown to form a hierarchy correlating with a scale from natural/expected to unnatural/unexpected coordination; besides, it turns out that the parameter of morphological homogenity is also relevant for the Enets coordination. The data are studied against a typological background, which allows to highlight rare features specific to Enets, as well as to spot cross-linguistically common phenomena. Formal properties of Enets coordination strategies are unexpectedly diverse as compared to other languages of the world: this can be explained by intermarriage of features inherited from Uralic and those borrowed from a structurally different Russian.

Способы выражения пола в турецком языке

Способы выражения пола в турецком языке

Author(s): Elena Markovna Napolnova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 5/2020

The gender of both humans and animals differentiates linguistically in all cultures, but this category ay be expressed in different ways and to various degrees. In the Turkish language, neither nouns nor pronouns have a grammatical category of gender. The morphological method of denoting gender is used only for a restricted number of humans, mostly high-ranking, and in some personal names. The lexical method of denoting gender is used for most human and animal names. In this method, together with the lexemes with value having no indication of gender, a lexeme characterized by the semantics dominated by the indication of gender is used. Such gender markers are also used independently and, along with the gender meaning, include a “key meaning” or have a connotation. This group of words includes some kinship terms, names of age groups, and addresses. The lexeme erkek is used for all age groups, humans and animals, thereby being “absolute”. Positive connotations are characteristic of the masculine markers erkek, adam, delikanlı, while bey, bay are neutral. The use of the feminine markers kadın, kız, dişi, bayan is limited by age, biological and social factors. Kadın has a pejorative connotation. Only names of animals that have economic importance are denoted by gender in a suppletive way. The number of such animal names is decreasing due to changes in the main method of production. The gender of other animals is marked lexically with the help of erkek and dişi. The results of this study are important for typological research and help to prevent communication errors.

СРПСКА ГРАМАТИКА ДАНАС

СРПСКА ГРАМАТИКА ДАНАС

Author(s): Sreto Tanasić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 3-4/2017

The paper surveys research on Serbian grammar over the past fifty-odd years, approximately from the 1970s up to the present day. The paper aims at demonstrating the most relevant results of the study of Serbian grammar and at emphasising the novelties in this period. The 1970s are a time in which the study of Serbian was seen as a continuation of postwar research, and at the same time results of more recent research were being introduced to academic work, results of newer theories were being accepted, phenomena that previously did not appear in the focus of attention in Serbian scholarship were also being studied, and the research was founded on stylistically diverse corpus of the Serbian language. That was also a time of the inclusion of young academics who are still active today. New insights were given into a number of phenomena that had been topics of earlier grammatical research, but many linguistic items were also described that had been studied little or not at all. Numerous blank spots in the grammatical description of Serbian were filled in. It can be said that Serbian grammatical research in this period is on a par with the achievement of global linguistic and Slavic scholarship. All the above-mentioned leads to the conclusion that the past fifty years is a period in which great results were achieved in the grammatical research of Serbian. That facilitated the modernisation of instruments of the Standard Serbian language.

Српски дијалектолошки зборник

Српски дијалектолошки зборник

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Serbia

Srpski dijalektološki zbornik is the oldest linguistic journal of the Serbian Royal Academy, today’s Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. It was founded as early as 1905, when the famous study by Aleksandar Belić The Dialects of Eastern and Southern Serbia was published. It is the only national journal of this type in the Serbian cultural sphere. Thanks to the reputation of its editors (1905–1960 [Vols. I–XIII] Academician Aleksandar Belić; 1961–1974 [Vols. XIV–XX] Academician Mihailo Stevanović; 1976–1999 [2001] [Vols. XXI–XLVIII] Academician Pavle Ivić; 2002–2009 [Vols. XLIX–LI] Academician Aleksandar Mladenović; since 2010 [Vol. LVII] Slobodan Remetić, member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska) and the relevance and quality of the published studies, Srpski dijalektološki zbornik has gained the status of the most prominent dialectological journal in the Slavic world.

Seminal monographs (which, as a rule, flawlessly and in great detail describe phonetic, morphological, accentual and, less frequently, syntactic systems of individual dialects) on Serbian dialectology have been published on the pages of Zbornik. These include two books by Aleksandar Belić and four books by Pavle Ivić, dialect dictionaries, original research papers, book reviews, etc. The studies published in this journal have significantly enriched the doctrine of Slavic and European dialectology. Although originally focused on the studies related to the national context, Srpski dijalektološki zbornik has always had the status of an international journal.

After World War II (since 1950), the Institute for the Serbian Language became a co-publisher of this journal. Since 1976, Srpski dijalektološki zbornik has been published annually, and on several occasions, two issues were published in the same year.

Српски и словеначки глагол погледати

Српски и словеначки глагол погледати

Author(s): Željko S. Marković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 16/2017

In this paper we analysed the Serbian and Slovenian verb pogledati as a lexical exponent of different situation predicates. Situation predicates are defned via characteristics of situation temporal structure of perception action expressed with this verb and via its predicate-argument structure. Te intertwining of these two parameters brings us to single out three main semantic-syntactic realisations of the verb pogledati in Serbian and Slovenian. In the frst one, the verb pogledati is used to express the immediate/perfective perception action and its predicate-argument structure is characterised by a mandatory presence of the right argument in the role of an object of perception (e.g. pogledati prijatelja iznenađeno). In the second realisation this verb shows the same properties of a predicate-argument structure as in the frst one but it does not denote a lasting/imperfective action whereby the perfective verb form emphasises its natural fulfilment (e.g. pogledati izložbu, pogledati pozorišnu predstavu). Regarding the predicate-argument structure, the third realisation is characterised by different spacial determinants at the right argument position that defning of perception action as either the immediate/perfective or lasti ng/imperfective one depends on (e.g. pogledati kroz prozor, pogledati naokolo).

Српски перцептивни глаголи од основа мот- мат- и њихови словеначки еквиваленти

Author(s): Željko S. Marković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2018

The paper presents semantic and syntactic properties of a group of Serbian and Slovenian agentive verbs of visual perception that have a differential component of a focused perception act realisation in their meaning content. Within the semantic-syntactic analysis of these verbs the situation types of perceptive action expressed by them were determined, as well as their predicate-argument structure and right argument forms. In the given analysis we have considered the extent of inter-lingual equivalence by taking as the starting point the Serbian verbs connected not only by the above-mentioned differential semantic component but also by common etymological origin.

Становлення теорії синтаксичного зв’язку в українському мовознавстві (ХVІІ – початок ХХ ст.)

Author(s): Natalia V. Kobchenko / Language(s): Ukrainian Issue: 53/2018

In Ukrainian linguistics, there are no historiographical papers offering an adequate description of the origin and development of the syntactic connection theory. Elsewhere, I have already proposed a periodization of the research on syntactic connections from the time of the appearance of first Slavic grammars until today, which distinguishes five historical stages. The purpose of this analysis is to characterize particularly the first three periods of the development of research on syntactic connections – from the 17th century until the 1930s. The first stage (17th–18th centuries) is the beginning of the syntactic connection theory. The syntactic chapters in the grammars of this period deal with studying the ability of some parts of speech to combine with other words. The second stage (19th century) is the period of approval of terminology and formation of the ground for deepening the syntactic connection theory. All scholars of the period defined two possible realizations of the syntactic connection – agreement and government. The third stage (the beginning of the 20th century until the 1930s) was the period in which the morphological criterion prevailed. The typical symptom of this observed in the period is consideration of syntactic connections between pairs of words in isolation from the rest of the sentence components. The crucial research perspective opened up by the study is to explain in detail the development of research on syntactic connections from the 1940s until today

Стативни глаголи у контексту видског избора у енглеском језику

Author(s): Anica V. Glođović,Valentina V. Budinčić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 20/2019

This paper aims at identifying interrelationship between a semantic feature of stativity with verbal aspectual opposition progressive/non-progressive in English. Beside telicity and duration, stativity is one of the three distinctive semantic features and expresses the existance of some quality in time without investing any energy, therefore it represents situations without dynamic segments. The procedure of creating aspectual verbal possibilities in English is based both on semantic and syntactic grounds so this paper also applies selectional restrictions that stative verbs impose when choosing aspectual form. Therefore, this paper establishes and analyses the correlation between stativity and aspectual verbal opposition on the corpus excerpted from the modern English novel.

Статус партиципâ у српским граматикама из прве половине 19. века

Author(s): Kristina Stamenković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 53/2022

Author(s): Marija Ančić-Obradović / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3-4/1974

Author(s): Milka V. Nikolić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 12/2015

This paper deals with the linguistic and stylistic procedures used in Ćopić’s novel The Eighth offensive in shaping the notion of a woman in two male characters – Stojan Starčević and Pepa Bandić, with a view to describing and explaining, from a linguo-stylistic perspective, the hues of attitude of these two characters towards the woman. In this respect, a classic linguo-stylistic approach is complemented by one of the contemporary literary stylistics. The analysis shows that in the novel these stylistic features can be divided into two groups: semantic and syntactic ones. Therefore, they are most visible in the cases of (1) a stylistically marked syntactic structure and (2) a lexical unit realised with a meaning shift in the context given. Th e analysis also shows that there could be more than one procedure in a sentence, which implies that Ćopić’s characters take a subtle and balanced stance on women, proving that Ćopić paid special attention to language matters in his texts.

СТИЛСКО-СЕМАНТИЧКИ АСПЕКТИ ДЕРИВАЦИЈЕ

Author(s): Zorica V. Nikitović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2014

This paper analyzes the poetic function of derivatives, whose derivational stems consist of either a prepositional phrase beginning with the preposition bez or a complex suffixational word. The analyzed examples illustrate wide stylistic and semantic spectrum of derivatives, which has manifested itself through construction of figures of speech: antithesis, paradox, gradation, metaphor, etc. The research conducted is of a preliminary character, and it has shown that derivatives are unavoidable elements of the structure of literary texts, that they lexicalize the broader sentential context with their forms, and that they make contribution to the poeticization of the utterance in the stylistic and syntactic level.

Author(s): Alla Andreevna Kozhinowa / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2019

The present paper focuses upon syntactic peculiarities of an arabographic text by Belarusian-Lithuanian-Polish Tatars. The text is extracted from manuscript P97 which dates back to the 18th century and is now stored at the Central Scientific Library of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. The object of our study is a compound sentence. The paper concludes that the text under analysis, abundant in bookish constructions, displays no competition between literary Polish of that period, its regional variant and the East Slavic languages at the level of syntax, i.e. in terms of compound sentences.

Структурни и функционални измерения на глаголната преходност и допълнението в английския и българския

Author(s): Svilen Stanchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2015

Despite their common and frequent usage in grammar, transitivity as a pivotal linguistic category and the closely related notion of Object have always posed considerable theoretical problems. The strictly formalistic approach of autonomous syntax does not lead to a satisfactory exhaustive definition of the term ‘Object’. In traditional structural grammars on the other hand the notion has been broadened so that it subsumes clausal constituents with rather inhomogeneous characteristics. Theoretically most viable for the account of predicate – object relations is the framework of Functional Grammar with its concepts of predicate frame and Object assignment. Within that theoretical framework we have outlined in this paper a productive pattern in English for the derivation of transitive predicates from intransitive ones.
