We will examine in particular the phonetic changes, which affect the expression plan of the linguistic sign, and their role in realizing and ensuring the principle of economy in language

Of particular interest for comparative study are phraseological units that have proper names in their composition. The purpose of this article is to analyze German and Russian phraseological units with anthroponyms, to identify and determine the type of equivalent relations between them.

NEGATIVE PRAGMATIC TRANSFER: THE CASE OF ADVICE

NEGATIVE PRAGMATIC TRANSFER: THE CASE OF ADVICE

Author(s): Viorica Cebotaroş / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Negative pragmatic transfer is often regarded as one of the causes of intercultural misunderstanding. The present study aims to investigate cases of negative pragmatic transfer in advice-giving. Thirty EFL students whose mother tongue was Romanian completed a Discourse Completion Test containing six situations which required advice-giving. The results showed that EFL learners tend to transfer the cultural norms of speaking from their mother tongue into English. Since this is highly likely to lead to breakdowns in communication, more attention should be paid to developing EFL learners’ pragmatic competence.

La traduction peut-elle abattre les frontières linguistiques et culturelles ?

La traduction peut-elle abattre les frontières linguistiques et culturelles ?

Author(s): Agatino Lo Castro / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Translation is an act of peace and exchange that aims to transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries. Indeed, translation is a trans-cultural practice that aims at the acceptance of the other and the encounters of languages and cultures. Several questions arise from this: What type of reflection on translation can be envisaged to break down linguistic and cultural boundaries? Should we think of translation as a purely linguistic act? Is it possible to accept the other from a linguistic and cultural point of view to conceive translation as a trans-cultural act? We will try to answer these questions by analyzing and by translating extracts into Italian from « Prière aux ancêtres » by the French-Congolese poet Gabriel Okoundji.

Apport et impact de la traduction sur l'Autre à travers la communication et la culture

Apport et impact de la traduction sur l'Autre à travers la communication et la culture

Author(s): Oifâa Mtafi,Mustapha Tijjini / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Translation is a space of sharing, knowledge, and recognition of otherness, a transmission of knowledge about the Other which is transmitted from a country to another one, from a person to another one, and from generation to generation. As a result, it has issues in different areas, but all have the same objective, which is to convey a message, a culture, another vision of the world from an author to a target audience. In other words, it is an asset because it allows anyone to recognize that there are other cultures than its own.

CHALLENGES OF TEACHING ENGLISH TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

CHALLENGES OF TEACHING ENGLISH TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Author(s): Alla Mămăligă / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0
