British statesman Benjamin Disraeli has left a deep mark in his country's history as a two-time prime minister, an ideologist of modern conservatism and a popular novelist. At the height of his power, however, he also decisively interfered with the history of the Balkan Peninsula. This book explores the key influences that, in the consciousness of the future British prime minister, from the time of his early youth, shaped the understandings that would guide him in those fateful days, between 1875 and 1878. The biographical approach intersects with the history of ideas, and then, in analyzing Disraeli's role in the Great Eastern Crisis, the biography is expanded with a history of diplomacy and international relations. The author recounts a complete reconstruction of Disraeli's perceptions of the Eastern Question and his policies in the Great Eastern Crisis on the basis of a cross-section of diverse source material collected in British archives and libraries, from his private correspondence and novels, through minutes of parliamentary debates and daily press, to confidential government documents .

The relationship between power and society is an important element of the historical narrative of the 19th and 20th centuries. Various currents of historiography (history of law and administration, social history) undertake research issues related to this area, considering the role of the community and individual in history, and the factors that shape relationships within society. The subject of the creation and development of modern bureaucracy is also included in the current of research on the modernization of the Polish state and society in the nineteenth century. The authors of this publication have attempted to link the history of bureaucracy with issues of social stratification, the formation of ideas, norms and social values. Most of the texts were based on original archival research. The authors present the activities of offices and officials from various departments of state administration (including synagogue supervision, tax administration, mortgage court, advisory institutions and censorship) in the Polish territories of the Russian partition and in other territories, at various times between the end of the eighteenth and the end XIX century.

Maria Clementina Sobieska (1701–1735) was the granddaughter of King Jan III. In 1718 she was assigned to James III Stuart. Stopped in Innsbruck, she ran away and married her chosen one. She bore him two sons, Charles Edward and Henry Benedict. The spouses settled in Rome in the Palazzo del Re, under the care and at the expense of the Pope. In 1725 Maria Clementina proposed against taking her custody of her sons and moved to a convent. Using international support, she forced James Stuart to make concessions and returned home. After her premature death, the family undertook steps that were to lead to her beatification. A preliminary trial was initiated in which Mary Clementine was called the God’s Servant.
