As compared to their purely verbal manifestations, multimodal realizations of image schematic metaphors have received far too little attention in cognitive linguistics than they would deserve. It will be argued that image schemas (Johnson 1987, Talmy 1988), since they are skeletal conceptual structure, afford an excellent source domain for metaphors that are realized verbo-visually in cartoons. The cartoons selected for this study are all by Janusz Kapusta, a Polish artist, whose works have appeared every week in the Polish magazine “Plus-Minus” for over ten years. In contrast to the gestural medium, films and music, where the relevant elements of image schematic source domains of metaphor are never fully available at once, the cartoons give a “snapshot” of a conceptual image which is ready for inspection as a single Gestalt. They are therefore a good testing ground for discussing the question of how the visual and the verbal modality interact in spatialization of abstract ideas. Providing insights into the function of multimodal metaphors and levels of their activation, the discussion contributes to the ongoing debate on the conceptual nature of metaphor and the embodiment of meaning. The results of the study are also considered in relation to the role of verbo-pictorial metaphor in structuring abstract concepts in a creative way.

Analyzing literary creation of the title 4 sobe gospođe Safije, the authors try to establish its authenticity and autochthony through narrative elements and correspondence with the form of legend. The experiential aspect of this story/legend inflenced the name of a restaurant in Sarajevo, serving as its proof of autochthony and a stimulus to tradition. The stated story is brought into connection and analyzed comparatively with the story on the catering establishment Lutvina kahva featured in Ivo Andrić's novel Travnička hronika. The story 4 sobe gospođe Safije is not the only case of interference between legend and story. There are other examples in literature wherein folk tradition was incorporated in a literary text and persisted to become rooted in contemporary society as a part of cultural and traditional heritage.

Programmatic buying represents a very effective - and lately also popular - way to purchase digital advertising space through the utilization of data, automated processes, and software systems. The main aim of this article has been to identify the position and share of programmatic buying in the Slovak markets’ average digital investments “pie”. The achievement of the main aim has been supported by two sub-goals. The first sub-goal was to unveil the trend in investments into digital marketing platforms over recent years on the Slovak market. The authors used IAB Slovakia’s press releases as a source of data in determining the conclusions of the first sub-goal. The second sub-goal was defined to ascertain whether investments in programmatic buying match the trend and follow the marketing costs tendency. The authors cooperated with local media agency Starmedia Co., which might be considered as the benchmark of the market, since it represents the marketing interests of brands on a vast scale. The main findings of this paper unveil an increasing trend towards digital marketing investments, and along with it also into programmatic buying. However, programmatic growth will probably not match the intensity of the growth of the digital segment.

In the realist structure of the short story Hagi Tudose (1903), written by the Romanian author Barbu Ştefănescu Delavrancea (1858-1918), there are incorporated motifs like stinginess, social alienation and the accumulation of capital, and forty years later, through the character of Rajka Radaković from the novel The Miss (1945), writer Ivo Andrić (1892-1975) did the same thing. Such characters embodying the stinginess, like Hagi Tudose and Rajka Radaković, have a similar psychological profile and also similarities in their replicas, having the same ideas, and thus are created conditions for a comparative reading of the mentioned works, just serving for a further dialogue and contact between these two different cultures.

This study explores a neglected and unexpectedly problematic aspect of the inflexional morphology of the noun and adjective in nineteenth-century Vegliote Dalmatian. At issue is the masculine plural ending -i. Despite its resemblance to the plural ending -i of other 'eastern' Romance languages, such as Romanian and Italian, it is argued that this -i has subtly different synchronic and diachronic characteristics, and that it originates specifically in determiners and pronouns, thence spreading analogically to masculine nouns and adjectives in general.
