With the constantly growing number of medical articles, translators have to permanently keep up to date with the linguistic changes. Translators are thus faced with problems ranging from the lack of exact correspondents to borrowings. This article aims to focus on some of the particularities and difficulties that medical texts in the field of orthopaedics, histology and pathology can have and to analyse some of the strategies that can be successfully applied in translating such articles.

The 21st century witnessed the emergence of Translation Studies, which include linguistics, comparative literature, sociology, semiotics, and communication. Translation Studies is also an interdisciplinary field that deals with the study of the theory, the description and application of translation, and cultural translation. Cultural Translation, which encompasses postcolonial translation studies, cultural gaps, and cultural manipulation, requires training the students of translation in the areas of social anthropology to help them achieve cultural and intercultural competence. Therefore, the purpose of the current quasi-experimental study was to provide the students with new translation training to help them understand the role of culture in translation. Examining the relationship between translation, linguistics, education, and social anthropology showed a shift in the purpose of translation from transferring information into a task of transmitting culture. Such a shift necessitates training the students to acquire socio-cultural skills by engaging them in discussions and dialogues about the culture of the original texts. The current study was an attempt to help students perceive the relationship between translation and culture to understand that some texts, specifically literary texts, do not only involve mastering two languages syntactically and semantically, but they also require communicative skills to analyze the social anthropological aspects of the texts, including culture, religion, and ideological and political issues. Therefore, this study applied the recent collaborative pedagogy for translation, which is based on improving social and cultural skills, for providing the students with the strategies for enhancing their professional practices within a social-constructivist educational environment. Moreover, emphasizing the concept of cultural turn in the work of polysystems in translation, the significance of this study lies in analyzing a number of theories to examine the relationship between translation, linguistics, and social anthropology and their impact on students’ culture and intercultural competence.

The renewed emergence in public of the question of respecting the tradition of the Anti-Fascist struggle and recognition of the allied (Soviet) contribution to the liberation of Belgrade in 1944 spurred the interest in reconsidering the practice of naming and renaming of streets which testify about that part of our common history. Although marking of monuments and maintenance of wartime graveyards, and even naming of streets after prominent personages are only part of the promotion of history of remembrance – since in our days it can be much more and stronger reflected in the media presence or in the form of schoolbook interpretations and attractive films or TV serials – we addressed this matter in capacity of a historian and an eyewitness. From a comparative survey of how marking of something which should represent lasting values was approached in various periods of history of Yugoslavia and now of Serbia, we glean that in our territory there was more ideology and „political correctness” than desire to measure with equal measure that which should always be esteemed – shedding of blood for the liberty of the country and the people, as well as the extended friendly hand in the hour of the direst necessity. Following the need of the moment, the town authorities in the time of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia named a street after the King’s general Petar Živković, in the very year the King imposed his dictatorship. It was renamed by his former oponent Milan Nedić in 1943. Overshadowed by Živković remained many fallen heroes or those whom he condamned or with whom he did away at the trial of Thessaloniki. Thus, the city did injustice to its defender colonel Tufegdžić and took away his name from a street in 1940. During the war, under occupation, streets were deprived of the names of former Serbian wartime and political allies. After the war ideological purges of „incorrect” or „uninteresting” local and allied names followed. In only few cases names deleted by the occupying and collaborationist administration were given back. Streetnames after Russian or Soviet wartime allies were no exception, only perhaps a more dramatic illustration of the change of „remembrance” in keeping with the changed political circumstances. After 1948 the names of streets and boulevards given after Russian great men, the Red Army and toponyms made famous during WWII started to disappear. After less than ten years, they started to return, as a sign of goodwill within the framework of improvement of bilateral relations. After the tragic incident in which a Soviet marshal and several generals, liberators of Belgrade were killed at Avala, the city renamed streets which had once born their names, after them again, and even added some new ones. During the transition of 1990, there was rush to repair all former „iniquities”. However, not even the newly proclaimed criteria were observed. Generals and marshals and the Red Army were once again the target of the reform. In accordance with our own insight and engagement we showed the history behind the scene, how the personality of marshal Biryuzov and the street bearing his name was saved from oblivion in 2004.

Languages for specific purposes have become a popular research topic. The aim of this paper is to systematise and categorise the main directions of research on LSP at the Institute of Applied Linguistics at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The paper focuses on two main fields of LSP research: translation and teaching. The article discusses not only the topics which are of interest to research staff but also the perspectives of the development of the field.

In the article there are introduced several types of lingual equivalence and their relevance for the relations between source language and target language. Different types of equivalence, e.g. denotative, connotative, text-normative, pragmatic and formal equivalence, are demonstrated and analysed. There are also provided examples in various languages for each of the aforementioned equivalence types. Furthermore, the text contains the review and explication of selected methods used by translators to cover the lack of (appropriate) equivalents between two languages, like adaptation, paraphrase, using an expression with similar meaning, loan translation etc.

Starting from one of Emanuil Gojdu’s affirmation, our paper tries to point out our humanity’s chronic need for communion by avoiding the false intercultural dialogue which is, in fact, a monologue of the one who, temporarily, holds a bit of power in this world which seems to be set on the way to self-destruction. In order to reach this noble goal, we are invoking inspiration, trying to ask – as Parsifal did – the right question, because its necessity and stringency are obvious nowadays. Thus, we are building our foundation on Paul Ricœur’s insights into the Golden Rule, trying to underline the way in which Europe’s actual problems could be mediated and solved through translation. We are also using Mihai Șora’s vision of the communication purpose’s fulfilment through true dialogue, which is communion.

The music-literary dictionary of world’s composers is a contribution to Czech lexicographic literature as it brings a new perspective on the world’s music. It exclusively focuses on composers who were inspired by verbal arts. Deep correspondence between music and literary work is often hidden or is considered as a mere coincidence. It is therefore praiseworthy that the author systematically emphasises and records this interconnection. The dictionary serves as a remarkably plentiful source of information for every admirer of art.

The book is a bilingual anthology of over fifty texts written in German by 19th- and 20th-century authors, absent from the critical and popular consciousness so far, but deeply rooted in Łódź history. The editors attempted to reconstruct literature written in the distinct regional variety of the German language called Lodzer Deutsch (or Lodzerdeutsch), and to present it as translated into Polish. The texts have for the most part been sourced from newspapers, few of which having been digitized; the publication therefore also contributes to saving the cultural heritage of Łódź. The reader can also find authors’ profiles, a minidictionary of selected Lodzerdeutsch vocabulary, introductory essays on the historical and cultural context of “Łódź literature” and on the characteristics of the Łódź variety of German. The publication is accompanied by five audio tracks in Lodzerdeutsch read by Aurelia Scheffel, who left Łódź – her home town – and moved with her parents to Oldenburg in 1946. In this autobiographical book, Erica Wallach gives us a deep and personal insight into the experience of her five-year imprisonment. She was suspected of espionage and was sent to prisons in 1950 in the GDR and the Soviet Union as well as to the Workuta Soviet labor camp. Her husband, Robert R. Wallach, a soldier in the U.S. Army, and the their two children, waited in vain for her return to Paris, the Wallach family's place of residence at that time. They had no information about the reasons for her sudden disappearance and about Erica's whereabouts. The author describes the methods of totalitarian systems that are used to break prisoners in solitary confinement in order to obtain the desired confession from them. And she tells how she still managed to survive those years. This new, expanded edition has a German-English bilingual epilogue, written by Erica Wallach in the late 1970s and appearing here for the first time. <p> Erica Wallach gewährt uns in diesem autobiographischen Bericht einen tiefen und persönlichen Einblick in ihr Erleben jener fünf Jahre Inhaftierung, die Sie, der Spionage verdächtigt, ihrer Familie entrissen in Gefängnissen der DDR und der Sowjetunion sowie im sowjetischen Arbeitslager Workuta verbringen mußte, weil sie ihren Pflegeeltern Noel und Herta Field, die im damaligen Ostblock in Schwierigkeiten geraten waren, im August 1950 zur Hilfe eilen wollte und sich zu diesem Zweck nach Ost-Berlin begeben hatte. The aim of this article is to present on a very specific example the changes the original texts goes through in the process of translation depending on the assumed addressee of the translation and their competences. The methodological base is the skopos theory with its modification. This work compares two types of translation strategies (foreignization and domestication) and two types of addressees (familiar vs. unfamiliar addressee) in translation. The subject of this translation analysis and translation is the original Italian criminal law document „Ordine di esecuzione” (a writ issued by the Public Prosecutor, directing any executive officer to convey the person named in the writ to a prison or jail, and directing the jailor to receive and imprison the person.

Translation criticism, the equivalent of literary criticism in the history and theory of translation, though convincingly put forward by Antoine Berman as a discipline in its own right, has not yet acquired a real existence in the practice of literary journals or magazines. Reflections on translation have offered some landmarks, illustrations, even directions, but they have never got very far. In exchange, we can find all around and along the borderland of this not yet fully-fledged discipline, a series of forms and practices of analysis and evaluation of the translated text as contrasted to the original and the other versions, like commentary or chronicle, which pave the way for its development. By means of exegeses or studies, which have originally been doctoral theses, translation criticism is thoroughly taken into account. In the present article, the author aims at analyzing several practices on the fringes of translation criticism in the Romanian (French-speaking) literary and academic world, in order to enlighten this important and (de)valorizing phenomenon for both translation and the translator.

This study has a double aim: a) a theoretical one – to establish the criteria according to which the author considers that a translation is a re-creation of an original text, in this case, of one of Brassens’ songs, and b) a practical one – to analyze the variant translated by Vulpescu, using Reiss’ reading grid for translation. The author considers Vulpescu’s translation to be a very successful one, owing to his own artistic skills and particular empathy with Brassens, as well as to his vast experience as a translator.

This article reviews the literature on the skills of emotional intelligence to reduce stress, anxiety, fear, as well as the synthesis of scientific studies that have highlighted the mental pressure and challenges that adolescents go through during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as emphasizing the importance given to the support and emotional psychoeducation of adolescents to maintain mental health. The phenomenon of emotional intelligence is known worldwide and studied by many researchers. The data show that emotional education leads to academic performance, preventing problems, improving behavior or social relationships.

If, in 1974, Nida was still able to write: ”What we do aim at, is a faithful reproduction of the bundles of componential features” (Nida 1974, 50) eleven years later he had been forced to change his mind: ”We are no longer limited to the idea that meaning is centered in words or even in grammatical distinctions” (Nida 1985, 119). There would be no getting around Reiß/Vermeer (1984) and their Grundlegung einer Translationstheorie (Fundamentals of a Translation Theory). With their publication, the ideas, which had already been brewing for some time in Traductologs’ minds, had taken shape in the most manifest of ways and could be considered as the « cultural turning point » in translation studies. The article gives a certain number of examples of practical repercussions in lay of this turning point and situates it in respect to traductological currents in history. It also proposes a definition of culture relevant for both the translator and the problem solving strategies deriving from it.

The outdoor education (learning) is a natural part of school educational process mostly among nature sciences. The effectiveness of outdoor education is abroad supported by professional literature (Nundy, 1999; Foskett, 1997, Rickinson et al., 2004…). There is also another important benefit while students work in the field (outdoor) – the physical activity in the fresh air. During the 16-00695S projects we analyse the contributions of outdoor education for teaching geography and advance in physical abilities of pupils on elementary school. The aim of this paper is to introduce and to interpret teachers’ and pupils’ opinions on outdoor education benefits. The researches have used semi structured interviews with 19 teachers, teaching at primary and lowersecondary model schools. The pupils of 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th grade of one of these model schools were subjected to a questionnaire survey, which was conducted to compare pupils’ abilities to solve the problem tasks in field (outdoor) and in class (indoor). The pupils’ attitudes to outdoor education were also monitored in the survey.

Our interdisciplinary research focuses on the issue of naming plants and botanical nomenclature. The names of plants can be identified in numerous and various sources, and they have been in use since ancient times. We aim to present the most important steps in the evolution of botanical nomenclature, and some aspects of spelling and translation regarding a corpus containing plant names in three languages: Hungarian, Romanian and English.

The past twenty years have witnessed the proliferation of a new type of translation called localization with its two main forms commonly referred to in the literature as website and software localization. Software companies in search of their own ‘voice’ or discourse started issuing style guides to determine the form and tone of their future translations. This led to the emergence of the concept of ‘artificial equivalence’ (Pym 2004b) in Translation Studies. In the present paper, our aim is to investigate the stylistic guidelines and translation techniques put forward by Microsoft Company for translations into Hungarian.
