Author(s): C. Buzea,Florentina Scârneci-Domnişoru / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2011

Keywords: occupational prestige; exploratory research; job market

The work at hand presents the results of an exploratory study whose aim was the supply of necessary background in the creation of a national occupational prestige measurement scheme. There are presented methodological approaches in the selection of the occupation list and the criteria considered by the responders in the ranking process. It has been recorded that success is defined as an accomplishment of family life and the existence of material comfort, success being mainly assigned to internal factors (ambition, perseverance, hard work and education). Management positions and those in the IT field are ranked as being the most needed, whilst occupations in politics and management are considered to be the best remunerated.

The image of the „women politicians” in the post-communist media

The image of the „women politicians” in the post-communist media

L’image de la „femme politique” dans les medias post-communistes

Author(s): Ionela Băluţă / Language(s): French / Issue: 173/2013

Keywords: media and political roles; political profession; gender/women and politics; romanian posctomunism

The analysis of mass-media discourses is a privileged lenses for the study of legitimate and valorised political roles and identities that contribute to the construction of political space. The role of such discourses is even more relevant for building the public image of political women since gender stereotypes, spread and consolidated through media, are essential for establishing the categories of capital that are more efficient for a political career. Based on a four-month daily monitoring of two major newspapers, this study shows that during their second postcommunist decade, Romanian political women have been rather absent from the mass-media discourse, their image being either negligeable and neutralized by the masculine rules of the political game or placed within the range of the exotic and/or mondenity.

Holiness and saints models for today's family. An observant analysis.

SFINŢENIA ŞI MODELELE DE SFINŢI PENTRU FAMILIA DE AZI. O ANALIZĂ CONSTATATIVĂ

Author(s): Monica Opriş / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: Supliment/2011

Keywords: Saints; martyrs; ascetics; family; youth; religious education;

In a world where the holiness ideal is a priority for a decreasing number of Christians we want an analysis of the holiness models proposed by the Church. The analysis of the Orthodox Christian calendar and the synaxars of October, November and December, resulted in a rate of almost four times less women saints than men saints, the proposed model is a virgin martyr willing to suffer death. For Christians, there emerges the model of an old monk, martyr or pious one. The access to the information in the religious field requires the supplementation of these models with some which are closer to the historical and social conditions in which Christians of different ages and social life options direct their lives towards God. Also, the Orthodox Christian curriculum requires an improvement with new models of saints having similar age to the young, including married saints.

Organisational Communication in Modern Companies

Organisational Communication in Modern Companies

Author(s): Monica Condruz–Băcescu / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2012

Keywords: organizational communication; subordinates; managers; abilities; barriers; performance

The main topic of the article is effective communication in modern companies. Employees of the companies who can communicate feel connected to the progress of business and understand how their actions can support that business. A company or organization that communicates effectively – both outside and inside – records higher profits than "introverted" companies with a poor or nonexistent communication strategy. Basically, it shows that the communication process is not a "software" function of a company, but a driver of business performance, playing a key role in the organization’ performance. Measuring the communication process becomes mandatory to design, implement and change – where necessary – the communication strategy of a company or organization, in order to increase its profit.

THE GREAT ART AND ITS EXPLOIT IN ADVERTISING. A SHORT EXPLORATION

THE GREAT ART AND ITS EXPLOIT IN ADVERTISING. A SHORT EXPLORATION

LE GRAND ART ET SON EXPLOITATION EN PUBLICITÉ. ESQUISSE EXPLORATOIRE

Author(s): Costin Popescu / Language(s): French / Issue: 18/2016

Keywords: advertising; art; bad taste / kitsch

Advertisers and advertising agencies are interested to use high art in their persuasive strategies, as the prestige of art was, is and – we have all the reasons to believe that – will be tremendous. Advertising has honed several strategies to exploit art: it can show a work of art as a term of comparison for the recommended product (and consequently elevate this one); it can modify the work of art placing the recommended product among its constitutive elements; it can reconstruct the work of art (its ideological tissue and formal relationships) using new elements, the product being one of them; etc. These techniques lead to many important questions, one of them – in the field of expression and creativity – deserving special attention: can we qualify the commercial messages exploiting high art as being, by the simple act of exploiting, of bad taste?

In any society, human actions în peacetime involve related risks according to the specificity of each field of activity and external impact factors.However, from a comparable point of view, military and logistic support actions, depending on the missions to be accomplished and the decisions taken în well-established place and time conditions, involve high complexity risks.The risks specific to the military logistic support occur both during the preparation of the operations and especially during their carrying. Construire un parcours d'enseignement du français de spécialité pour les étudiants en économie. Enjeux théoriques et pratiques

Author(s): Monica Vlad / Language(s): French / Issue: 1/2020

Keywords: discursive genre; reading strategy; French for specific purposes; French for business and economics.

This article proposes a reflection on how to construct a didactic course for teaching /learning the reading of texts in specialized French by the non-philological students (here, economist students in the field of Marketing and Finance-Banks). The text is divided into two main parts. In the first part, the theoretical articulations that should underlie such a didactic approach are explained.Notions of specific thematic content, discursive genre and reading strategy oriented to a specific purpose are discussed. The second part of the article exemplifies, starting from a chapter in Le française conomique par des textes. Itinéraires de lecture et de production textuelle en français langue étrangère published by the author in 2015, the way in which the didactic course aimed at teaching the texts of the "invoice" type and "sale-purchase contract" combines the theoretical articulations discussed in the first part of the article, with an emphasis on the area of understanding the logos,abbreviations and specific collocations.

The Digital World Affecting Children Rights and The Affects of Internet Governance

The Digital World Affecting Children Rights and The Affects of Internet Governance

Author(s): Elena Tilovska-Kechedji,Darian Rakitovan / Language(s): English / Issue: 01/2018

Keywords: internet; governance; children’s rights;

In today’s modern world everybody uses the new technologies to communicate across the globe. Children from very young age use I-pads or smart phones to play, learn new things, communicate but not all the information or graphic imagery that is on the internet is good for them. Adults can distinguish and can choose what is appropriate and good. But can children distinguish the dangers that are on the internet? Can they decide for themselves and be protected from the online influences and information? The UN children rights exists so they can be respected and protect the children but they were created in a period of time when the internet did not exist. Can this rights protect the children offline as well as online or there should exist new rights/measures specifically applied for the internet, the media and the technology of today? All of these questions will be discussed in this paper in order to come with an appropriate solution to this problem that is spreading with the speed of the light in the whole world.

Memory and Places: The Presence of Toponyms in Romanian Phraseology

Memorie şi locuri: prezenţa toponimelor în frazeologia românească

Author(s): Monica Geanina Coca / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2018

Keywords: toponymes;phraseology;repeated discourse;public discourse;ludic;

Popular language, myth and symbols in the contemporary press

Limbajul popular, mituri și simboluri în textul jurnalistic

Author(s): Ioana-Narcisa Crețu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 34/2020

Keywords: myth; symbol; language; entertaining; media;

The contemporary popular media is gaining ground at the expense of quality. On the one hand, journalists use techniques designed to sell at any price. On the other hand, the public, in the pursuit of escapism, is looking for easy entertaining, which allows them to escape from everyday life. There is no time for deep reading, everything has to be fast. Modern culture is different. Media language is different. The article analyses elements of the spoken language which serve to make the text more familiar and also media headlines from the perspective of the reference to mythological items. The research presents how media uses popular language and symbols to capture the interest of the readers.

An unknown library of the Saxon Reghin at the end of the XIXth century

O bibliotecă necunoscută din Reghinul Săsesc la sfârșitul secolului al XIX-lea

Author(s): Florin Bogdan,Simona-Loredana Bogdan / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: II/2021

Keywords: library; XIXth century; old book; Greek‑Catholic Archpriestship from Reghin; 1892;

The paper brings an essential contribution to the history of libraries that operated in Reghin, throughout time. Libraries are an indicator of the book science and the intellectual level of the community, no matter whether we have in view the school libraries, libraries of some associations, special libraries or private libraries. A case of a special library debated within this paper is the library of the Greek‑Catholic Archpriestship from Reghin, unknown till now. The research is based on the stamp of the library put on two copies of old Romanian books, kept within collections of the Metropolitan Library from Bucharest.

TOWARDS A POSTMODERN METONYMY OF FORMAL LIBERATION/EMPOWERMENT: ANA CASTILLO’S THE MIXQUIAHUALA LETTERS

Author(s): Monica Got / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2021

Keywords: fluidity;radical authorship;Chicana literature;female emancipation;auctorial intentionality;

By addressing the peculiarities and formal inventiveness of Ana Castillo’s novel The Mixquiahuala Letters, the paper identifies and categorizes the elements of identity that generate the metaphysical construction of a bicephalous feminine/feminist experience—a permanent fluidity of the ethos, a profound alterity of the receptive act, and a radical, disruptive participatory courage. While examining how identity (re)construction can resonate, metonymically, in the actual scriptural arrangement of the novel’s text, the paper focuses on the study of the relationship between the formal, textual, and semiotic-receptive representation of the idea of emancipation, through Ana Castillo’s explicit auctorial intentionality.

ROMANIA’S SECURITY CULTURE – THE HOT POTATO WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT

ROMANIA’S SECURITY CULTURE – THE HOT POTATO WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT

Author(s): Adrian Lesenciuc,Corneliu Mugurel Cosmanciuc / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2021

Keywords: Security culture; Covid-19 crisis; low-trust society; security education;

The Covid-19 crisis has been a flaws' indicator that every society is affected by, including Romania. The health crisis has been toppled by political turmoil and a concerning increase of the gap between the population and the ruling elites. This crisis is founded on disinformation, fake news, and the rise of the far-right. This paper argues that there is a need for political dissidents' direct involvement in promoting security culture and education in the Romanian society of today. The first premise imputed is that the ongoing crisis produced by the pandemic weakens the democratic structure of the society. Being a low-trust society, a vice inherited from the communist era, Romanian citizens tend to be skeptical about the decisions taken by their elected politicians and therefore diminish or exclude serious threats to national and human security. That behavior represents an obstacle to the well-functioning of the state and the promotion of the National Defense Strategy 2020-2024. A strong security culture would imply automatically a tighter relation between security services and the Romanian citizens, leading in the end to an overall better status quo.

Author(s): Dumitru-Mircea Buda / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2020

Keywords: immigrant elites; abolition; exile in literature; identity;

The cultural and existential crisis of exile entails, above all, an abolition of time and space, a location outside of their identity. In a sort of ”transculturality”, in Milan Kundera’s words, or, simultaneously, in two cultures at the same time. And the condition of exile, a wandering, remains the key status of the the writer, who is a traveler par excellence. A prophet that must carry into the world and into history his message, sentenced to mobility

Metaphors of Spatiality and Discourse of Femininity in Shakespeare’s Henry V

Metaphors of Spatiality and Discourse of Femininity in Shakespeare’s Henry V

Author(s): Jean-Jacques Chardin / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2021

Keywords: Shakespeare; cognitive metaphor theory; power; femininity; body;

Drawing on cognitive metaphor theory and on an approach to spatiality in terms of experiential engagement with the environment, this paper aims to show that Henry V presents a pragmatic, matter-of-fact and efficacious view of power based on the voice. The king’s metaphorical discourse constructs a gendered, male oriented conception of territory as female body to be conquered and of woman as space to be regulated. Control and submission are ensured by the strategies of containment the king needs to deploy in order to avoid subversion, be it among his own troops or with Katherine, the deceptively compliant French princess. Henry V teaches about early modern English history and invites the audience to engage with their own, contemporary reality. Above all, it shows that all forms of conceptualizations take place in terms of metaphorical language.

The first part of the study investigates the Romanian curricula and the conventions of the Common European Framework for Languages for the three foreign languages as a knowledge support for the first and second language learners in acquiring academic language. It focuses on the existing resemblances and differences in writing skills and their impact on the academic performance. The second part analyzes the language proficiency in the academic written performance and studies the outcomes regarding the written skills of the students.
