Summary/Abstract: The contemporary popular media is gaining ground at the expense of quality. On the one hand, journalists use techniques designed to sell at any price. On the other hand, the public, in the pursuit of escapism, is looking for easy entertaining, which allows them to escape from everyday life. There is no time for deep reading, everything has to be fast. Modern culture is different. Media language is different. The article analyses elements of the spoken language which serve to make the text more familiar and also media headlines from the perspective of the reference to mythological items. The research presents how media uses popular language and symbols to capture the interest of the readers.
