Summary/Abstract: The foreword emphasizes the dual role of historical institutes in Serbia: producing new knowledge while engaging critically with global historiographical trends. It highlights the importance of confronting both foreign and domestic perspectives, especially in light of ideological biases and the consequences of political events like the Yugoslav crisis of the 1990s. The presented volume seeks to assess developments in Serbian historiography over the past fifteen years, addressing innovations, methodological challenges, and the influence of digital technologies and revisionist narratives.

- Summary/Abstract:In this paper, we refer on certain question imposed by very practice as well as by our longstanding personal insight: How do we respect our scientific heritage, do we accept it without reservations, glorify and “defend” it, or, in the other extreme, keep silent upon it. We have noticed both tendencies. Following given examples in the paper, we came to conclusion that every move that shake traditional view or long embraced “truths”, especially the topics that encroach on the political culture and historical consciousness of the people, has provoked strong reaction. The other observation leads to conclusion that other selective approach to historical heritage is more closely related to the political context in which historians write their narrative. This is especially visible when we compare writings about the Serbian factor or its influence in the Balkan affaires, before or after the 1990s.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper outlines a survey of the transformation of the historical research in Serbia under the influence of the development of information and communication technologies in the late 20th century and during the first decades of the 21st century. The application of digital technologies, infrastructures, systems, services, and tools has affecte the methodology of historical sciences in almost all segments. The research practice was changed when unified electronic catalogues of library funds became available on the web. Even greater changes were caused by the availability of digitized copies of historical sources, mostly printed material, created in an “analog“ form (newspapers, magazines, scientific periods, books, manuscripts, maps, etc.). The possibility that historians make digital records of historical sources themselves has made possible a dramatic acceleration of research, or shortening the time required for research in libraries and archives. Historians in Serbia are experiencing a kind of „digital revolution“ mostly alone or assembled into small, informal experience-sharing groups.

- Summary/Abstract:By using the combined method of critical discorse on the existing literature on Nikola Pašić and the People’s Radial Party in Serbia and Yugoslavia in the 19th and 20th centuries and summarized expression of crystalized explanations of the said historiographical matter, two main streams of study and explanation have been presented. The first one dealt more with “ideology“ of N. Pašić and was represented by Latinka Perović and Andrei Shemyakin, whereas the second dealt with the role of N. Pašić in historical events, as well as with the founding and rise of the People’s Radical Party. This other stream is best represented by Đorđe Stanković and his in-depth studies and explanations in the tradition of critical historiogra- phy. Some other streams of research of this matter other than these main ones were also mentioned.

- Summary/Abstract:Based on relevant sources and literature, the paper analyses reviews and articles on the works of Soviet/Russian historians dealing with 19th and 20th century topics, published in journals of six important historical institutions in Belgrade between 1946 and 2000 (Jugoslovenski istorijski časopis/Yugoslav Historical Review, Istorijski glasnik/Historical Herald, Istorijski časopis/Historical Review, Vojnoistorijski glasnik/Military Historical Review, Tokovi istorije/Currents of History and Istorija 20. veka/ History of the 20th Century). The focus is on the work of the Commission of Historians of the USSR and SFRY from 1974 to 1991, that was supposed to facilitate direct contacts between historians of the two countries. - Summary/Abstract:Researching Southeast European history has a rich tradition and institutional support in Germany. This paper deals with the reception of the views on Serbian/Yugoslav history dominant in contemporary German historiography. By analyzing the reviews published in most prominent Serbian academic journals (Tokovi istorije, Istorija 20. veka, Balcanica, Zbornik Matice srpske za istoriju, Zbornik Matice srpske za društvene nauke) between 2000 and 2022, it attempts to discern how closely German historiography has been followed in Serbia. Special emphasis is put on the works of Holm Sundhaussen, Marie-Janine Calic, and Alexander Korb that sparked debate within Serbian academic circles.

- Summary/Abstract:By applying the quantitative-qualitative and synthesis methods as well as comparative study, we research on the reception of the French historiography achievements in Serbian historiography after 1945. The chosen accounts we selected for the purpose, deal with the First World War topics, than interwar years, and slightly tackle recent history of Yugoslav decline. By analyzing data presented in Serbian historiographical publications, we testified of the great importance of French historiography and archival sources. Thus, in this paper, we have provided a roadmap for future Serbian historians for further in-depth research on the French stocks. The aggravation of the Yugoslav crisis in 1990s and the outbreak of war, as confirmed by the results of our research, led to a revision in French historiography towards the Serbian, South Slavic and Balkan issue.

- Language:Serbian

- Keywords:WWI; founding of Yugoslavia historiography; polemics; historical remebrance
- Summary/Abstract:The Yugoslav historiography after 1945 tried to depict the founding of the „First Yugoslavia“ on December 1, 1918 as an event of only formal importance, since it had had notihng to do with the „will of the people“ and as such, represented only an act stagemanaged by the bourgeois elites. However, in late 1960s and early 1970s a sudden change in that respect occured, especially in Serbian historiography. The paper analyzed selected writings by Milorad Ekmečić, Đorđe Stanković and Branko Petranović who refutet the claim of alleged „Greater Serbian“ tendencies of Nikola Pašić, pointing quite to the contrary, to pro-Yugoslav orientation of the then Serbian political, military and social elites.
