Summary/Abstract: The Yugoslav historiography after 1945 tried to depict the founding of the „First Yugoslavia“ on December 1, 1918 as an event of only formal importance, since it had had notihng to do with the „will of the people“ and as such, represented only an act stagemanaged by the bourgeois elites. However, in late 1960s and early 1970s a sudden change in that respect occured, especially in Serbian historiography. The paper analyzed selected writings by Milorad Ekmečić, Đorđe Stanković and Branko Petranović who refutet the claim of alleged „Greater Serbian“ tendencies of Nikola Pašić, pointing quite to the contrary, to pro-Yugoslav orientation of the then Serbian political, military and social elites.
