Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we refer on certain question imposed by very practice as well as by our longstanding personal insight: How do we respect our scientific heritage, do we accept it without reservations, glorify and “defend” it, or, in the other extreme, keep silent upon it. We have noticed both tendencies. Following given examples in the paper, we came to conclusion that every move that shake traditional view or long embraced “truths”, especially the topics that encroach on the political culture and historical consciousness of the people, has provoked strong reaction. The other observation leads to conclusion that other selective approach to historical heritage is more closely related to the political context in which historians write their narrative. This is especially visible when we compare writings about the Serbian factor or its influence in the Balkan affaires, before or after the 1990s.
