Summary/Abstract: Unfortunately, we come across the issue of addictive substances, in the vernacular “drugs ”, more and more often in everyday life. These substances are no longer hard to get, and they can be procured anywhere and anytime we want. The introductory part of the article acquaints the reader with the circumstances of addiction, followed by preventive measures and research methodology for the effectiveness of prevention. The following part is a presentation of the results of a questionnaire survey, which is supplemented by other similar studies from abroad and also in the Czech Republic. The survey focused on the age group of students aged 15-20. The survey was carried out using an anonymous questionnaire, which also included a test of knowledge acquired after taking preventive lectures. 823 respondents took part in the survey. The article offers a comprehensive overview of the issue of addictive substances. It points to the current easy availability of addictive substances, the great variety of addictive substances available to adolescents and the young age of young people who come into contact with drugs.
