Sofistów studia nad językiem. Protagoras z Abdery

Sofistów studia nad językiem. Protagoras z Abdery

Author(s): Kamila Lewandowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2011

This article concentrates on the origins and history of the linguistic issues in sophism. The sophists’ influence was rooted in their mastery of language. They were experts in the practice and theory of rhetoric, and in what we now call linguistics, i.e. the study of the form and grammar of language. The aim of this article is to examine the successfulness of the linguistic theories developed by one of the biggest ancient sophists - Protagoras. It appears that Protagoras was not merely trying to analyse and describe established Greek language. His aim was basically to correct this language. The purpose of this article is also to explore a different approach to the concept of linguistics in antiquity. This is merely based on the fact that the origin of linguistics lies partly in the same reasons as produced sophism.

Pobożność renesansowa czyli precationes quotidianae (na podstawie Catechismi Capita Decem Ambrożego Moibana oraz elegii Ioannesa Stigeliusa i Joachima Camerariusa)

Author(s): Robert Krzysztof Zawadzki / Language(s): Polish Issue: 9/2014

Latin elegiac prayers, written by Renaissance poets – Ambrosius Moibanus, Ioannes Stigelius and Joachimus Camerarius, are analysed. Comparing images of the poetic world presented in the works of the said writers the author shows their religious attitude towards God. The vision of his goodness and mercies, created in the Moiban`s, Stigelius` and Camerarius` poems, is well fitted in Christian theology of the Catholic and Lutheran church, whereas the language of art and the tendency to insert ancient reminiscences displayed by the poets serve well educational purposes and make this poetry more useful to applying in contemporary schools.
