ACADEMIC EMAIL REQUESTS: A CHALLENGE FOR EFL LEARNERS

ACADEMIC EMAIL REQUESTS: A CHALLENGE FOR EFL LEARNERS

Author(s): Viorica Cebotaroş / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The study aims to investigate the level of pragmatic competence of Romanian learners of English when performing requests in academic email interaction. It focuses on the analysis of the linguistic form of authentic email requests written by students of USARB (Alecu Russo Balti State University) to faculty. The study examines the way politeness is expressed in academic email requests by analysing the level of directness employed, as well as the use of internal modification of the head act of request. The findings reveal cases of negative transfer of strategies from students’ mother tongue into English. This stresses the need for pragmatic instruction, which will contribute to developing the EFL learners’ pragmatic competence.

Легитимация и квантификация в дискурси на омразата

Author(s): Martina Mineva / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

Based on the turn to common language in practice of the mid-20th century, mainly through Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, the paper offers an analytic of language games, starting from an analysis of the problem of naming at Wittgenstein’s and Austin’s works. It is argued that chances of discourse of hate speech should be discussed not only as a direct reference to the naming problem but also to the problem of inequality in language games and in the language games of legitimation. The analytical capabilities of the latter are emphasized by their classification, a condition for the possibility of reaching such an opportunity is also the return to the problem of authorization in Pierre Bourdieu's analyzes, as well as the problem of the legitimacy functions of meta-narratives and the process of their delegitimation, following Jean-François Lyotard. By suggesting the link between language games (method) and the problem of the legitimacy of boundaries of philosophical discourses (subject), Lyotard gives a chance to raise the problem of legitimacy by interpreting the field of the endogenous logic of practice. Since all this necessitates the problem of daily quantification, it is argued that the method-subject relationship gives a chance to identify a number of data in hate discourses that allow a critical interpretation of the sustainability of, in Harvey Sachs's theory of conversation analysis, „categorical explanations immunized against induction,” such as the most common forms of „doing hate”. At the end of the text, a thought experiment is proposed in which, relying mainly on the analytical chances provided by non-classical transcendental logic and intentional analytics, a case is presented in which the so-called „doing hate” and „immunization against induction” are analyzed with a focus on the forms of legitimation and daily quantification.

Дискурсивни практики и стратегии на омраза

Author(s): Tanya Orbova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

At the center of this article is the figure of the refugee, which I have interrogated in a previous analysis, considering it as a „radical metamorphosis of the stranger” (cf. Orbova 2014). In this article, I will try to analyze this image through discursive practices and strategies of hate that construct it and fill it with social sense and meanings, but as an „essentially negative Other”. The explication of these prepredicative evidences and inconsistencies in the language contained in the discourse on refugees is the starting point from which we could draw conclusions not just about who the Refugee is as an ideal type, as a form of strangeness, but also about the two-way relationships of the differentiation by which it is constructed. The practical logical forms of thinking and of expressing the otherness of the Refugee construct not a homogeneous image, but many of its figures that begin to construct at many different levels that generalized everyday notion which stigmatizes, rejects and does not tolerate the Different.

"Войната на световете" - културен скрипт или предстояща криза?

Author(s): Dimitar Panchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The article aims to provide a few examples from the fictional literature, film industry and computer games, all of which directly address the problem of collision between worlds that are incommeasurable. The main suggestion is that the conflict between them can be resolved only through the complete destruction of one of those worlds. This will be the starting point for the analysis of the so-called „clash of civilizations” theme, which was documented during the media monitoring carried out in October 2015. The main argument of the article is that the construction of a generalized negative image of the Other and its systematic exclusion from access to the order of discourse in its essence can become a „self-fulfilling prophecy” (borrowing the term from Robert C. Merton), i.e. this Other becomes the bearer of a crisis which, prior to that, has been ascribed as essential to him. In this way the marginalized elements of society do not have any alternative exit but to be who they are, in line with their ascribed negative identity.

Дискурсите на социализма

Author(s): Rositsa Lyubenova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

This text aims to highlight the ways in which the image of the enemy in State Security documents is built and functions, as well as its functioning in the socialist reality – In the creation and consolidation of social differences, unequal treatment and social exclusion. By systematizing the implicit and essential features of the “enemy”, this analysis attempts to reconstruct the social conditions for its “emergence”, the establishment of the monopoly on its identification and naming. Through the confrontation between the “enemy” and the „New Man”, a value-defined clash of ideologically constructed figures takes place. A similar collision also takes place at a pre-ideological level between the lexemes of „enemy” and „people” in the combination of „enemies of the people”. They include, on one hand, the meaning and value implications of origin and belonging (genus), proximity, indivisibility and nativity (native), but also of unity, community, common blood, fate, history, etc. At the same time, in the same phrase, the „enemy,” we find a whole palette of negatively coloured meanings such as hatred, animosity, malice, enmity, ill-treatment. In practice, a doubling of the meaningful load of the two lexemes is done in their combination. The pages of the documents also reveal a specific discourse reproducing the so-called „Enemy speeches” that challenge the act of production as both symbolic domination and impenetrability and/or limited chances of access to the order of discourse. In fact, the discourse of the documents gives visibility to enemy elements and the audibility of their speeches. There is a fracturing in the situation of impenetrable access to the order of discourse and the creation of an anti-ideological discourse, which in essence questions the legitimacy of the identity-donors, can be registered.

MEHRSPRACHIGKEIT UND UNTERRICHTSIDEEN FÜR SPRACHKONTRASTIVES ARBEITEN

Author(s): Oxana Chira / Language(s): German Publication Year: 0

The article focuses on the description of one of the main features of current multilingualism and its complexity through a selection of issues related to its role in L2 acquisition, seen as a social and multidimensional phenomenon. Nowadays, multilingualism is one of the most relevant social phenomena, and therefore, it is an issue of utmost interest both for study and research, given the large amount of studies from different fields and disciplines. Learning a second or any other additional language might occur in any learning environment and it is always bound to external and internal factors, however, very little is still known about their influence on the language acquisition process. Bilingual or multilingual children acquire and learn languages at a very early age and they gain unprecedented experiences, which might be considered a valuable treasure and heritage for the future of the society.

Темата за следдипломното обучение в творчеството на проф. Коста Пергелов

Author(s): Slavena Stoyanova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Kosta Pergelov – a notable scientist and lecturer who has dedicated over 60 years of his life to the history and theoretical foundations of accounting. Defending the importance of the profession, passed through all the "steps" of scientific and teaching activities, Prof. Kosta Pergelov argues that the theory of accounting should be considered as a higher form of specific knowledge, subject to the laws of social development. His research, in addition to accounting theory and opportunities for improving the methodology of accounting, includes issues related to the importance of practice as a conscious creative subject activity, as well as those related to the problems and opportunities for improving postgraduate education. This publication presents an overview of articles by Prof. Kosta Pergelov, dedicated to postgraduate education. The aim is to highlight the contribution of scientists to the role of postgraduate education in updating, expanding and deepening the acquired knowledge in accordance with the achievements of theory and practice.

Author(s): Marinela Rusu / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

Creativity is a complex process with deep sources in the individual consciousness. This fascinating, human-specific process has been approached over time from several perspectives. In the first part of the paper we will describe the main theoretical approaches in the field of creativity, defining the concepts of "gifted", "talented", gifted. Among the most important concepts on giftedness that we will analyze, we mention: general models specific to the field, systemic models, contextual model and development model, through which specific concepts were redefined, which also led to the realization of psychometric tools. necessary for the scientific confirmation, through empirical data of the theses theoretically described. The development perspective emphasizes the idea of the possibility that some special qualities or intellectual qualities that the individual has from birth to be amplified to excellence by their contextual modeling, in the school, social or family environment. The analysis of the Model of the five facets of the creative process, proposed by Annette Moser-Wellman (2001) is part of a development perspective, in which, through individual effort, self-control and perseverance, a high level of creativity can be achieved. These new attitudes and skills refer to the ability to visualize, to develop and maintain an ever-awake curiosity, to transform mistakes into opportunities to discover and understand other levels of reality, to use past experience, analogy, imitation in a new pattern, relaxation and introspection, immersion in the beautiful aspects of the world, and the use of wise thinking, defined by simplicity. Finally, creativity is a process in which both innate qualities (endowment) and context (educational, social and historical) are involved, which define, meet, and support the manifestation and creative productivity of the individual. Additional means of individual development will always facilitate creativity and amplify it.

CREATIVITATE ȘI CONȘTIINȚĂ

CREATIVITATE ȘI CONȘTIINȚĂ

Author(s): Liviu-Adrian Măgureanu / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

This paper proposes an understanding of human creativity that calls for a new paradigm. It integrates matter and consciousness coherently. Human creativity cannot be reduced to a way of thinking. It includes diverse experiences generated by perception, feeling, thinking, intuition. Amit Goswami (former professor of physics at the University of Oregon in Eugene and author of the best-selling textbook "Quantum Mechanics") calls it the "comprehensive paradigm". It is "the science inside consciousness". The paradigm is built on the conception that the foundation of all living things is consciousness. From this perspective, creativity is fundamentally a phenomenon of consciousness expressing new possibilities. On the other hand, one way to see that ingenious solutions come from areas that are hard to reach by the conscious mind is to listen to people as they describe how ideas come to them. If we try to understand these descriptions, we see that the creative process springs from the unconscious rather than emerging as a conscious process. The person is usually in some kind of reverie or dissociative state, when the mind wanders freely and thoughts and images float uncensored. During this fluid time, the brain is probably working intensely, despite the subjective feeling of reverie and relaxation. Research in modern neuroscience tells us how the connections within oneself are made when the brain is working. They tell us 'where', but not 'how'. How can a random process eventually lead to something meaningful? How does the brain think? These are questions that are still being answered.

THE CONTRIBUTION OF DRAMA GAMES TO CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

THE CONTRIBUTION OF DRAMA GAMES TO CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

Author(s): Maria Karaiskou / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Autism is a complex neuropsychiatric disorder that inhibits the normal development of the human body and isolates the sufferer from the rest of the world. SPORTS GIFTEDNESS - CONCEPT AND SPECIFICS

SPORTS GIFTEDNESS - CONCEPT AND SPECIFICS

Author(s): Ivan Simeonov / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Despite the good preconditions and the availability of state laws, the problem of working with gifted children and adolescents has not yet been resolved at the required level in mass pedagogical practice. Most classical and modern studies on the topic are focused on intellectual giftedness. There are tests for diagnostics and evaluation, as well as a number of development programs depending on the respective field in which the giftedness is registered. On the other hand, the existence of sports giftedness in primary school age is rather only ascertained, without affecting the question of their development. The requirement for a unified concept characterizing sports giftedness stems from the fact that in most research on talent, sports gifts are included either as part of another giftedness or are not considered at all. The derived concept will be useful both for sports pedagogues for orientation in the scientific and methodological literature on the topic, and for parents who will be able to better understand the problems and needs of their gifted child.

Etude comparative de la cyclicité de l’éducation axiologique

Etude comparative de la cyclicité de l’éducation axiologique

Author(s): Nina Puţuntean / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

The paper presents a comparative study that aims at the sometimes problematic cyclicality of axiological education (literary-artistic axiology) approached from various perspectives. The motivation for the investigation of the literary-artistic axiology of students in the context of studying texts from foreign literatures is determined by both theoretical and practical premises. Western specialists in the field of reading process define literary-artistic values according to several perspectives, each discovering a determining factor, deduced from the nature of the participants in the reading process: the author of the literary-artistic text, the literary text, the concrete reader / the virtual reader, to which is added the overlap of the social experience in a certain field, the ethical, political and ideological social approaches, as well as the philosophical, artistic, theoretical-literary dogmas and systems, etc.

Author(s): Zornitza Draganova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

Cultural entrepreneurship is a topic that is evoking more and more interdisciplinary and polyparadigmatic efforts. The introduction and spread of the concept of “creative industries”, the awareness of the need to update both policies and management in the sphere of culture, the increasingly clearly visible need to preserve and socialize movable and immovable cultural heritage through a complex of traditional and modern methods: all these are factors that provoke more research and analysis of problems from the sphere of culture and arts.

VALORILE CONSILIERII FAMILIEI CU PREADOLESCENȚI DIN PERSPECTIVA FORMĂRII INIȚIALE A CADRELE DIDACTICE

Author(s): Olga Răileanu / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

The article contains an analysis of family educational action from the perspective of values as a condition of family educational actions. The norms, principles, rules and purposes of conducting family educational actions, their content, including the methods and means applied, are described. In the context of the initial training of teaching staff, we address the need to train pedagogic students to be able to work with the family in the direction of transmitting moral norms, which can become functional and are internalized in the conditions in which the adult members of the family respect them and permanently capitalize on them in their own behavior , education and ethical training for preadolescents. We support the idea that parents and pedagogues need familiarization with these norms, within the framework of parental counseling. At the same time, the article contains a model that addresses the educational action and moral conduct of the family in order to harmonize preadolescent-parent relations.
