Female Writers and Autonomy in Love:

Female Writers and Autonomy in Love:

Author(s): Noriko Hiraishi / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This study explores the voices of women in modern Japanese literature, focusing on female writers’ desire for autonomy in love during the beginning of the 20th century. Interestingly, female writers of this period often depict unfaithful wives. To explain this phenomenon, we examine the Japanese enthusiastic pursuit of European literary trends, such as the romantic reception of Paolo and Francesca in Dante’s Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy), which glorifies adultery in the name of “true love.” In the Japanese literary world, empathy with the romantic concept of love idealized a longing for true love and overcame negative feeling towards adultery. Under these circumstances, female writers raised their voices for independence in love and marriage. Exemplifying the writers who adapted European literary and philosophical trends into their works to confront the laws and customs of Meiji Japan, this study clarifies that the trends paradoxically endorsed and created an explosive freedom for women to explore the concept of love.

Illness in the Echo Chamber:

Illness in the Echo Chamber:

Author(s): Robert Ono / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This chapter will assess the quick rise of “leprosy literature” in Japan during the latter half of the 1930s using much of the primary sources available, including diaries and letters privately penned by Hōjō Tamio, a young writer who was at its epicenter. I will begin by taking a look at the collection of “confessions” compiled by the government in 1921 to see how the authorities manipulated the voices of patients before the boom. Then I will focus on Hōjō, who was uniquely ambitious to join the mainstream literary establishment, while many residents of the leprosarium were reluctant to have their voices heard knowing that public scrutiny would only make them vulnerable in a society brimming with eugenic ideals. Finally, some discussion from a wider historical and cultural context should facilitate a clearer understanding on different forms of power that sought to control and sometimes aggravated the situations surrounding Hōjō and other patients.

Miasta w dobie wyzwań zmieniającego się klimatu

Author(s): Agnieszka Rzeńca,Tomasz Jurczak / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

Cities are the largest contributors to pollution, which ultimately leads to climate change on a global scale. The negative, environmental, effects of cities are becoming so acute that they are mobilizing local authorities, but also citizens themselves, to take active measures. Sustainable urban development is becoming a necessity and requires the implementation of innovative instruments and solutions and the creation of an urban climate policy. An extensive review of the literature on the subject and a search of key international and national documents made it possible to outline a broad perspective on the conditions and determinants of contemporary urban development in the era of challenges caused by climate change.

Author(s): Anna Wasiak / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The Anthropocene is not yet a known term for the geological era in which we live. Many scientific communities are calling for the adoption of this name, which would not only mean recognizing that predatory human activity has influenced the bad situation of our planet like never before. It would also mean official recognition of responsibility for the dramatic situation of loss of diversity. It should also be recognized that it is man as the perpetrator who should be responsible for stopping, but also partially reversing the trend. As modern individuals, we have no influence on shaping the policies of states and global corporations. However, we have a tangible impact on stopping the destruction and working for our local biodiversity. The article is an attempt to present what civic initiatives are undertaken by the inhabitants of Lodz.

Łódzki Panel Obywatelski „Zieleń w mieście” – jak rozwijać partycypację społeczną, gdy kryzysy nawarstwiają się?

Author(s): Agata Burlińska / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

This article is an analysis of the process of the I Lodz Citizens Assembly “Greenery in the City” in the context of the two crises that were piling up when it was conducted in 2020: the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. While the climate crisis was the subject of this deliberation process, the pandemic posed a challenge in terms of the conduct and organization of the process itself. The purpose of this article is to show the added value from conducting this process, taking into account (1) the way in which the first Lodz Citizens Assembly was organized, (2) the merits of the panel – in terms of the selection of themes and the recommendations developed, and (3) the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on both the way the panel was conducted and its substantive results. In the conclusions, recommendations were given to the public sector for the implementation of citizen assemblies on issues related to the climate crisis as well as the development of public participation during a crisis such as the pandemic.

Toplumsal Cinsiyet Kavramı: Kapsam ve Tartışmalar

Toplumsal Cinsiyet Kavramı: Kapsam ve Tartışmalar

Author(s): Sümeyra Ünalan Turan / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

Akademik yazında hatırı sayılır bir yer işgal etmesine karşın toplumsal cinsiyet (gender) kavramı, gündelik dildeki kullanımıyla kafa karışıklığına yol açmakta; özellikle son yıllarda kavramın LGBTQ+ hareketiyle yan yana anılması, muhafazakâr camiada kavramın kullanılmasına yönelik güçlü bir reflekse neden olmaktadır. Bu tepkiler bazen makul sınırın ötesine geçerek kavrama ilişkin akademik müktesebat topyekûn yok sayılabilmektedir. Çalıştay esnasında kavrama yönelik tartışmaların olması, hatta artık kavramın kullanılmaması gerektiğine yönelik fikirlerin dile getirilmesi, beni, çelişkili şekillerde kullanılan toplumsal cinsiyet kavramının geçmişten bugüne serüvenini ele almaya ve hâlâ işlevsel bir araç olup olmadığını tartışmaya sevk etti. Zira kavrama yönelik tartışmaların etkin bir parçası olabilmek için önce kavramın geçmişten bugüne kapsam ve içeriğini, kavrama yönelik eleştirileri bilmek, sonra kavramın işlevselliğini tartışmak ve kelimeyi sadece popüler kullanımına hapsederek akademik fonksiyonunu gözden kaçırmamak gerektiğini düşünüyorum.

Седемте смъртни гряха на бранда в комуникационния мениджмънт

Author(s): Stefan Serezliev / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

In recent years, modern and successful communications management has been about building successful brands – organizational, sporting, national, urban, political, cultural, educational, and personal. In academic theory and good professional communication practice, the complex solution of branding problems naturally leads to real opportunities for maximizing communication management at different levels: tactical, strategic, creative, etc. On the other hand, in the absence of comprehensive brand building in its key areas and stages, various problems are observed. These problems create numerous obstacles to communications management and generate irreparable structural distortions in the brand-building process, leading to crises in relations with different audiences and stakeholders. The author aims to analyze the issues at an inter- and multidisciplinary level and to discover and propose relevant and applicable solutions that optimize communication management in its theoretical and practical dimensions.

The media sector is evolving rapidly, as are the social and environmental challenges we face. Green media content, in all its forms, touches the daily lives of almost every human being on our planet. Its footprint may be modest, but its „brain“footprint is huge. We see a unique contribution of the media sector in shaping the public debate, changing the behavior of many people, and promoting sustainable life habits. Concern for consumer behavior unites media and production companies. Initiatives such as Plan Albert and Ecoprod in France aim to understand the impact of carbon emissions. Albert is a partnership between 25 leading media companies to identify and take action on the social and environmental challenges facing the sector. Media has the opportunity to tell exciting new stories that reach audiences in a meaningful way and create content that exposes issues and inspires audiences. One of the main goals of the media companies united by the idea of the Albert Plan is to put the planet on the agenda of the newsrooms of media organizations. Media companies have to decide whether they are simply a reflection of current norms or movers of change.

Комуникиране на научни публикации: Нови отговорности пред абстракта

Author(s): Milena Tsvetkova,Denka Dancheva / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The abstract is one of the oldest forms of informing in publishing, the functions of early disclosure and promotion of new publications which are becoming increasingly important in a digital context. The object of this research is the communication role of the scientific abstract, and the subject of direct research interest is the impact of digitization, multimedia, open access, and neural networks on the abstract as a communication of a scientific text. The purpose of the research is to prove an increase in responsibility for the scientific abstract as a multi-format tool for global online communication of scientific publications. There are two tasks: to verify the current standard of abstracting at the international level to ensure higher quality guarantees and wider accessibility of scientific news, and to outline the latest problems of the creation and functioning of scientific abstracts. The main research methods are comparative analysis of normative documents and desktop studies. The first hypothesis of the research is that the virtual publishing environment needs to unify the standards of abstracting. The second hypothesis is the need for authors, editorial teams, and communication managers in the field of scientific publishing to acquire more competencies in redesigning and creating scientific content and metadata in a form appropriate to the virtual environment. As a result of the research, the need for a training course on the communication role of abstracts called “Abstracts for Global Dispersion and Influence” is justified. The findings can be useful for scientific and business communicators and communication managers.
