Through a brief discussion of theoretical frameworks regarding “reading” with our ears and an overview of the market and technology trends within the book publishing industry, this paper argues for the case of book digitizing, especially the case for creating audiobooks. The need for this digital format is established through several methods. First, research papers are incorporated into the paper. Also, statistical reports of the growing audiobook market share are used to support the main argument. To further strengthen the argument, a review of platforms for creating audiobooks, including artificial intelligence (AI) involvement, is offered based on the author’s personal experience to show that current technology can easily help this process.

The article examines the personalized consumption of news in Bulgaria through the prism of consumer attitudes and preferences for information, presenting and analyzing the results of a nationally representative survey conducted in 2023. Медийната консумация и предизборните кампании в България

Медийната консумация и предизборните кампании в България

Author(s): Ivo Indzhov / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The sixth in the last three years of parliamentary elections in Bulgaria is an occasion to explore the role of the media as a key actor in election campaigns. The work is based on data analysis (primary and secondary) for media consumption from quantitative studies and so called cabinet study. It was established that Bulgaria, despite some specifics, fits into the global trends of media consumption. First, television remains the leading media for satisfying the information needs of the population. Second, however, social networks and online media are on the rise. Third - in Bulgaria, researchers usually put all online media under one “hat”, but the strong presence of traditional media on the Internet should also be taken into account. Fourth, radio and the press are now secondary media, but they still matter to older people. During election campaigns, the picture is generally a small copy of the usual consumption. Television still holds the palm of the championship, but it is already shaken by the new media. Three groups of media users can be distinguished, which are more important for political communication. People up to 30 years old, who by Granville are electoral passive, are “immunized” against the television product. At the same time, it can be predicted that for understandable reasons, after 10-20 years, the 60+ group will begin to use many more new media. People aged 40+, however, are ideal target groups for election campaigns with content overflow and television messages in the new media and vice versa.

Предизвикателствата пред медиите в процеса на дигитална трансформация

Предизвикателствата пред медиите в процеса на дигитална трансформация

Author(s): Aneta Milkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The digital transformation in the media began in the 1990s with the targeted policy of the European Union institutions to introduce terrestrial digital television broadcasting in the EU Member States. In 2006, a European Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Plan was established, the so-called Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Plan. “Geneva Plan 2006”. The introduction of terrestrial digital television broadcasting was supposed to ensure more efficient use of the frequency spectrum, the possibility of a better quality of the programs distributed, the offering of new services to consumers, etc. This historic transition in the development of television, from analog terrestrial broadcasting to digital terrestrial broadcasting, has been paralleled by much criticism and doubt about its effectiveness. In 2013, on the verge of digitizing TV broadcasts in Bulgaria, the multiplex facilities achieved the highest percentage of coverage by population in the EU countries (95% at that time, and by 2024 96.2%), along with the fact that experts faced a serious problem – the lack of media content to be distributed through multiplexes. Today, in 2024, media experts are engaging their attention with the digital transformation of media in general, and again the technical and technological environment in which media content is created and distributed is at the forefront. But more and more clearly on the horizon is the problem with media content and this time it is not the lack of content, but the risks to freedom of speech in it.

Partycypacja społeczna na rzecz miasta neutralnego klimatycznie

Author(s): Anna Wasiak / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The article presents social participation as a concept that is still new and yet developing very dynamically. In parallel with the development of the approach of cooperation and joint decision-making between local authorities and the local community, there are overlapping processes that have not yet existed in the awareness, and therefore in the debate. Climate threats, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, drought, and weather anomalies are issues so far beyond the sphere of action of local authorities. Cooperation, cooperation and co-decision-making with residents require the development of social and climate participation tools.

Kapitał naturalny miast w łagodzeniu skutków antropogenicznej zmiany klimatu

Author(s): Kinga Krauze,Tomasz Jurczak / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

Natural capital plays a key role in mitigating the effects of climate change in cities. It includes all resources of nature, ecosystems as such and the ecological processes that occur within them. We use a percentage of nature’s potential in the form of goods (food, fossil resources, water) as well as services, e.g. soil formation, pollination, climate regulation. The share of goods and services used by humans is called ecosystem services. In a city, natural capital is formed by fields, meadows and forests as well as parks, squares and common lawns, in addition to water bodies. Green spaces help to absorb carbon dioxide, improve air quality and reduce the urban heat island effect. They thus improve the living conditions of residents while reducing the risks associated with phenomena such as droughts, heat and flooding. The risks arise not only directly from weather conditions, but also from a number of adverse feedbacks. Prolonged droughts, for example, result in increase in airborne allergens. Green areas through increasing air humidity, prevent dust formation and bind particles due to the increased roughness of the substrate and the structure of leaves and greenery (density, size, stratification, individual characteristics of species). Green areas also influence the water cycle. Plants use water, capture rainfall it in their crowns, their roots improve infiltration, mulch increases the water holding capacity of the soil. Ecosystem services depend on the health of nature as measured, among other things, by biodiversity. Strengthening public awareness of the importance of natural capital and the impact of human activities on the environment is therefore a prerequisite for sustainable urban development.

Zrównoważona mobilność w miastach – wyzwania i perspektywy

Author(s): Szymon Wójcik / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

This chapter aims to discuss perspectives for shaping urban mobility in the context of climate change and to identify solutions that reduce urban emissions in the transportation sector. The environmentally harmful externalities generated by motorized transport, as revealed by current scientific research, are discussed. Subsequently, the developmental status of selected Polish cities’ sustainable transport solutions is characterized. Data analysis indicates upward trends in expanding dedicated bus lanes, developing public bicycle roadnetworks, constructing Park & Ride facilities, and increasing popularity of electric scooters. These positive trends are contrasted with a consistent increase in motorization ratios within the analyzed cities, posing a challenge for emissions reduction within their boundaries. The chapter concludes with recommendations for urban transport policies that promote sustainable mobility.

Miejska gospodarka o obiegu zamkniętym

Author(s): Agnieszka Sobol / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

One of the strategic directions of the development of modern cities is a circular economy (CE). The circular economy is a way of conducting social and economic processes oriented towards resource efficiency and minimization of waste production. Its effect is low-carbon emissions contributing to building climate neutrality. The complex approach to the development of the circular economy includes responsible and economical management of resources and their repeated use in the process of exchange or change of use. The multifaceted approach requires linking technological and organizational changes with economic and social impact mechanisms as well as continuous ecological education. The key area of circular economy is the partnership and cooperation of many local entities. An import- ant role in coordinating the development of the urban circular economy is played by local governments, which should actively and on an ongoing basis initiate, support and promote activities for its development. At the same time, these are the inhabitants who are the real agents of change toward the circular economy. Ultimately, it is their awareness and attitudes that contribute to its realization.
