Vyhledávání v informačních zdrojích se zaměřením na tvorbu systematických review v oblasti speciální pedagogiky

Author(s): Zuzana Svobodová,Jiří Kantor / Language(s): Slovak,Czech Issue: 2/2024

The creation of a search strategy and conducting the search in various information sources is recognized as a critical component of the systematic review methodology that affects the quality of the final outcomes produced by these studies. Despite the importance of this step, little in the way of bestpractice was published in (special) educational journals. This article describes the whole procedure of the search process and the importance of the role of information specialist in the systematic review´s team. This procedure includes the development of a search strategy, balancing demands forspecificity and sensitivity of the search strategy, selection of databases/other information sources, conducting searches, translating search strategies between databases/other information sourcesand documenting how the searches were conducted. This article explains all these steps according to the methodologies developed by JBI and optimization techniques based on international research outcomes. Searches realized in systematic reviews should include preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary searches. Mainly, the primary search when the appropriate search strategy is developed based on the teamwork and using specific strategies is essential to achieve non-biased conclusions.

Tools for sustainable development of world cultural heritage: The role of heritage impact assessment

Tools for sustainable development of world cultural heritage: The role of heritage impact assessment

Author(s): Milena Krachanova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2024

Cultural heritage is a factor in fostering social and economic development and ensuring a sustainable urban environment, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. Its sustainable management leads to preservation of the community’s identity and memory as well as the historic urban environment, which leads to reciprocal benefits for heritage and society. The article examines the possibilities for sustaining the Outstanding Universal Value of the World Heritage properties though the implementation of several key management tools as Management Plans and Management Systems, focusing mainly on Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA). It provides a comprehensive overview of the legislative provision and implementation of these tools at the national level. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining a review of the legal framework, secondary data analysis and qualitative data from case studies in Bulgaria. This methodology allows for a comprehensive analysis of the effectiveness and limitations of current heritage assessment tools in Bulgaria. The paper concludes that HIA is a vital component of sustainable cultural heritage management. By systematically assessing the potential impacts on heritage values, it provides a proactive approach to preservation of OUV of World Heritage sites. However, its effectiveness is contingent on its integration into State Parties’ policy frameworks and legal systems. Future research should focus on overcoming these challenges to ensure the continued relevance of the assessment and its alignment with broader sustainable development goals.

AN ATTEMPT AT OBJECTIFYING THE TWOFOLD NATURE OF THE EGO SELF RELATIONSHIP IN TOPÂRCEANU’S POETRY

AN ATTEMPT AT OBJECTIFYING THE TWOFOLD NATURE OF THE EGO SELF RELATIONSHIP IN TOPÂRCEANU’S POETRY

Author(s): Clementina Alexandra Mihăilescu,Stela Pleșa / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

George Topârceanu’s poetry is a good opportunity for studying the twofold nature of the human being, offering a double opening: towards his sensitive soul and towards language. The poet’s sensitivity reverberates in his way of approaching the twofold nature of the human being that oscillates between the rational ego and the authentic self with its psychotraumatic experiences. As concerns the language employed to tackle human issues, it demonstrates the ability of the poet to choose simple, expressive words and adequate linguistic patterns through which every passionate reader could develop expressive abiltities to render his authentic spiritual experiences. Gaston Bachelard and Liviu Rusu represent the instruments for analyzing the poems entitled The Inferno and The Traveller’s Ballad.

THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE BY PHILIP K. DICK: REACTIONS TO CONTACT WITH OTHER CULTURES

Author(s): Irina Ana Dobrot / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

The purpose of the paper is to analyze the novel The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick based on a reader-response approach, which shows how present-day concerns are echoed in this work of fiction. Contact with other cultures and our relationship with them as individuals are based on the political context prompting our interaction with certain other cultures. At the same time, personality is the result of our contact with other cultures as well, not just with our own, as much as it is the result of our psychological tendencies. The soft power of Japanese and Asian cultures in general is presented in this novel. We also see America as being under the influence of Japanese culture, a situation which poses conflicts for some of the characters, such as Childan. The way individuals interact with society is related to the various conflicts they may experience.

IDENTITY MARKS IN THE PROSE OF CĂTĂLIN DORIAN FLORESCU AND JAN CORNELIUS

IDENTITY MARKS IN THE PROSE OF CĂTĂLIN DORIAN FLORESCU AND JAN CORNELIUS

Author(s): Loredana Nicoleta Ilie / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

Among the Romanian German-speaking writers, Cătălin Dorian Florescu, settled in Zurich, Switzerland, and Jan Cornelius, who emigrated to Germany, in Dusseldorf, can be analyzed in tandem due to some remarkable similarities: their origin in the Romanian Banat, their exile during the dictatorial communism which lead. in both cases, to multilingualism and multiculturalism, their successful affirmation as prose writers in the German-speaking area, the fact that they are both famous due to their autobiographical prose in which they frequently problematize the opposition between East and West, and, most surprisingly, the irony and humour in their treatment of the theme of identity. In the present work we have identified those important marks of identity present in their literary works, which justify their double literary belonging, both to German-language literature and to Romanian literature.

FROM PAGES TO SCREENS: HOW LITERATURE EXPLORES AND PREDICTS CYBERBULLYING

FROM PAGES TO SCREENS: HOW LITERATURE EXPLORES AND PREDICTS CYBERBULLYING

Author(s): Andrei-Lucian Marian / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

Cyberbullying is a modern form of aggression, and contemporary, classical, and dystopian literature provides a relevant perspective on this phenomenon, illustrating its emotional and social impact. By exploring exclusion, public humiliation, and isolation, fiction, social realism, and psychological literature help in understanding the consequences of digital aggression on victims. Studies show that affected individuals develop anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, and books that address bullying, marginalization, and power dynamics can contribute to fostering empathy. Additionally, literature can serve as an educational tool, used to stimulate debates on ethics, digital responsibility, and the emotional impact of aggression. Books that explore themes such as social ostracization, public shaming, or technological manipulation can help young people better understand the dangers of the online environment. Literature not only reflects the realities of cyberbullying but also offers models of resilience and strategies for overcoming trauma. By integrating it into educational programs, literature can contribute to promoting empathy and responsible online behavior.

ISSUES OF OTHERNESS IN CHINUA ACHEBE’S „ANTHILLS OF THE SAVANNAH” (1987)

ISSUES OF OTHERNESS IN CHINUA ACHEBE’S „ANTHILLS OF THE SAVANNAH” (1987)

Author(s): Adina Campu / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

This paper focuses on representations of Otherness in Chinua Achebe’s last and most modern novel – “Anthills of the Savannah”, first published in 1987. As opposed to previous literary works by the same author that mainly focused on the disastrous encounter between the African and the European cultures, the above-mentioned novel is chiefly concerned with African culture itself, the one that has developed in postcolonial times. I argue that “Anthills of the Savannah” relies on discourses of Otherness and Sameness in order to give an answer to the complex problem of identity construction and I focus on two of the most relevant representations of Otherness that I have identified in Achebe’s novel – on the one hand, the way in which Achebe uses the language in the novel not only as a class marker but also as a marker of the individuality of the Africans as opposed to Europeans and, on the other hand, the relevance of Western experience and how the novel questions the way in which the African elite, educated in Western countries can and should combine forces with the masses in order to create a just and fair society. The conclusion is not bleak but, Achebe makes it clear that, in order to bring about the eagerly awaited change the whole nation, not just the elite, needs to be adequately educated to that effect.

THE INFLUENCE OF PSYCHOLOGY IN GERMAN LITERATURE

THE INFLUENCE OF PSYCHOLOGY IN GERMAN LITERATURE

Author(s): Simona Olaru-Poșiar / Language(s): German Issue: 40/2025

The article underlines the influence of psychology in world literature, with a close eye on German literature, from the middle ages until modern times, revealing how characters were built and taking into account psychological behavioural patterns. The work relies on the study of Matthew Bell (2005): The German Tradition of psychology in literature and thought 1700-1840, as well as on other studies that discuss the connection that lies between psychology, psychiatry, constructing, as well as deconstructing narrative in German literature. First of all, the article uses the interdisciplinary method. Secondly, the comparative method is also approached in order to compare the pathological symptoms of madness and schizophrenia in medicine with the symptoms depicted in literary texts. Ultimately, the paper appeals to the hermeneutic and text immanent methods in order to get as close as possible to literary texts.

FANTASY LITERATURE AND ITS READERS. THE TIMELINESS OF IMAGINARY WORLDS

FANTASY LITERATURE AND ITS READERS. THE TIMELINESS OF IMAGINARY WORLDS

Author(s): Alice Jurcoveț / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

This article aims to identify typologies of readers of Fantasy literature and to reveal some of the stereotypes of alternative world-building that readers discover, which are not necessarily inverted structures of the real world, as there may be similarities between these worlds. Also, the reader and the character may face similar problems, of course the reader or the character acts according to their own status. Readers of fantasy literature can be seen as 'heroes' of their own reading experience, because they get to navigate fantasy worlds and cope with the intellectual and emotional challenges of the stories they read. These readers may not be fighting monsters or traveling through mythological realms, but in their world, immersed in fantastical universes, they live through an intense, often choice-filled experience of self-discovery. They may face moral dilemmas or challenges in understanding complex real-life ideas if there is no adult to maintain a balance of morality, protection and, above all, love, as the heroes of the books do.

IOAN CARAGIANI’S TRANSLATIONS OF MODERN GREEK FOLKLORE: A LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL STUDY

IOAN CARAGIANI’S TRANSLATIONS OF MODERN GREEK FOLKLORE: A LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL STUDY

Author(s): Mirela Averikios / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

The manuscript of Ioan Caragiani’s translations from Modern-Greek folklore, The Aromanians and Greek Folk Songs, is preserved at the Museum of Romanian Literature in Iași. It consists of 218 pages, including 115 folk songs translated from Arnoldus Passow’s 1860 collection, Τραγούδια Ρωμαίικα, and Caragiani’s notes on the historical figures mentioned in the poems. The manuscript reflects linguistic inconsistencies due to Caragiani’s Greek education, Aromanian dialectal influences, and evolving Romanian orthographic norms. His translations feature archaic verb forms, redundant superlatives, and unusual syntax. The lexicon integrates numerous borrowings from Turkish (aga, arnăut, harem), Greek (cleft, palicar, egumen), and Slavic (duhovnic, praznic), alongside French and Italian influences. Caragiani’s poetic style includes inversions, metaphorical imagery, and personifications, mirroring the oral tradition of folk poetry. Although unpublished, his work aimed to highlight Aromanian folklore within the broader Balkan cultural landscape, making a significant contribution to Romanian literary studies.

THE LIBRARY OF THE THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE IN BUCHAREST DURING COMMUNIST REGIME

Author(s): Ovidiu-Ionuț Avram / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

This study aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the history of Romanian librarianship, with a particular focus on the evolution of libraries in higher theological education. By analyzing archival documents identified within the Faculty of Theology of the University of Bucharest, the research highlights relevant aspects concerning a library whose historical development reflects the transformations of the academic institution to which it belongs. The study focuses on the period 1948-1984, within the context of the communist regime, and emphasizes significant historical and functional aspects. In particular, the processes of reorganization and inventorying of the library between 1980 and 1984 are analyzed, along with the conclusions derived from these efforts. The library’s ability to sustain its activity under the communist regime, its status as a specialized library that applied principles of librarianship in its organization and functioning, as well as the size and quality of its documentary collection, attest to the fact that it became one of the most prestigious specialized libraries in the field of theology.

A MYTHICAL AND FOLKLORIC REPRESENTATION OF FEMININITY IN ION AGÂRBICEANU’S PROSE

A MYTHICAL AND FOLKLORIC REPRESENTATION OF FEMININITY IN ION AGÂRBICEANU’S PROSE

Author(s): Laura-Camelia Kovacs / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

Ion Agârbiceanu's prose is, for the most part, based on mythic-folkloric representations of some events rendered on the edge of the collision between the real and the fabulous plane, the one in which predominate myths such as that of the bathhouse, of the undead, of the witch, of the flying or falling into hell, of the demon or of various spirits and mythological beings found in Romanian folklore. The present paper captures the main poses of mythical femininity in Agârbiceanu’s prose, poses such as that of the undead woman, a being considered to be evil due to her power of seduction and persuasion, the pose of the volve woman, symbol of the turbulent aquatic feminine, that of the woman-oracle, harbinger of inexplicable events; there are also exponents of the demonic and of degrading adultery, opposed to angelic figures/devoted wives, the pose of the haunted woman, the reproduction of Mary Magdalene, the biblical motif of repentance, the pose of the devil child/wild devil, incarnated evil/"the sole of hell", the Phoenix-woman, and the list goes on.The hermeneutic approach in this paper consists of an ethno-folkloric and, at the same time, a psychological and anthropological interpretation of several female characters consecrated in Ion Agârbiceanu’s prose, from the perspective of analyzing the most relevant myths, signs, symbols and rituals specific to the Transylvanian collectivity at the beginning of the 20th century. At the same time, all these ancestral beliefs will be counterbalanced by the interference of modern elements, thus tracing the impact of the fusion of the two major influences, the old and the new, in shaping the female characters, a phenomenon that will inevitably lead to their desacralization.

Актуални въпроси за опазване на Световния океан от замърсяване

Актуални въпроси за опазване на Световния океан от замърсяване

Author(s): Miroslava Yordanova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2023

Despite the invaluable role of the world ocean in many aspects of human existence, namely environmental, economic, cultural, social, and scientific, the pollution of the high seas remains an on-going concern. The soft law instruments and practices such as education and prevention of pollution from dumping of plastic waste are ineffective to tackle the problems of the world ocean in a comprehensive manner. For that reason, the international legal instruments in environmental law and the law of the sea, are a crucial tool for offering and effective solution to the problem of polluting the world ocean. In that regard, the international conventions in force are the most important instruments which can produce the necessary legal effects. The transnational nature of the pollution of the world ocean calls for the necessity to develop a respective international framework of protection. The new Global Treaty on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of High Seas Biodiversity adopted in 2023 (‘The High Seas Treaty’) has developed such, but the question with efficiency is still pending since it is not yet in force. Together with the Law of the Sea Convention, those are the two crucial international legal instruments that will offer protection of the important marine areas beyond national jurisdiction. While the Law of the Sea Convention tackles main issues of the sustainable use of non-living resources in the high seas, the High Seas Treaty further develops the protection over living resources of the areas beyond national jurisdiction and protects the marine ecosystems from diminishing biodiversity as a result from pollution. However, the main problem with the new treaty is its ratification by at least 60 countries so that it can come into force and provide the so urgently needed protection of the world ocean from pollution.

MISOGYNY AND HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE DECADENT STRAIN OF HARLEM RENAISSANCE: AN ANALYSIS OF WALLACE THURMAN’S INFANTS OF THE SPRING

MISOGYNY AND HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE DECADENT STRAIN OF HARLEM RENAISSANCE: AN ANALYSIS OF WALLACE THURMAN’S INFANTS OF THE SPRING

Author(s): Mohammad Roomazi / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

This paper examines the intersections of misogyny and homosexuality within the Harlem Renaissance, specifically through Wallace Thurman’s novel Infants of the Spring. The analysis illustrates how Thurman, along with contemporaries like Alain Locke and Langston Hughes, engaged with the intricate socio-cultural landscape of Harlem during the 1920s. By critiquing the patriarchal and heteronormative constructs prevalent during this period, the study explores how these figures perpetuated certain misogynistic attitudes despite their progressive stances on racial and sexual identities. Utilizing Marilyn Frye's theories on male supremacy and homosexual identity, alongside Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s ideas on the epistemology of the closet which reveals the dualities and contradictions within gender and sexual identities, the paper argues that the Harlem Renaissance, while a site of significant cultural production and resistance, also mirrored broader societal contradictions concerning gender and sexuality. Through a close reading of Thurman’s work and the interactions of historical figures at events like the 1924 Civic Club dinner, this study reveals the disparate and contradictory ways in which African American writers and intellectuals both challenged and conformed to oppressive norms.

"THE SORROWS OF YOUNG WERTHER" AND THE TURMOIL OF THE CONTEMPORARY MAN

Author(s): Gabriela-Cristina Spiridon / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

In this paper, we aim to demonstrate Werther's condition in comparison to the one of the contemporary man. Central to this focus on Goethe’s character are his portrayal as a ”Stürmer und Dränger”. First, however, it is important to present both Goethe in the context of the social environment and cultural milieu of his time, as well as The Sorrows of Young Werther in general. Of course, we will also portray the biographical elements present in the novel. Following this, we will introduce the ”Sturm und Drang” movement – a crucial part of this analysis – and highlight its key characteristics. Next, we will delve into deeper questions: Werther in comparison to the contemporary man, Werther’s influence on literature, which has manifested in numerous Wertheriads, and finally, the history of the novel’s reception and the significant Werther effect upon society in comparison to the effect of social media upon today’s society.

DORIAN GRAY AND THE NARCISSISTIC TRAGEDY: A STUDY OF VANITY AND SELF-DESTRUCTION

DORIAN GRAY AND THE NARCISSISTIC TRAGEDY: A STUDY OF VANITY AND SELF-DESTRUCTION

Author(s): Mihaela C. Sonea / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

This current paper is motivated by the attempt to explore the critique of aestheticism in Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, focusing on the protagonist’s obsession with beauty and its tragic consequences. Through Dorian's pursuit of external perfection, Wilde critiques the aesthetic movement, which shows beauty as the ultimate ideal while disregarding moral and ethical responsibility. The novel reveals the dangers of this philosophy, highlighting how an obsession with beauty can lead to self-destruction, as exemplified by Dorian’s relationship with his portrait. The portrait serves as a symbol of Dorian's soul, reflecting the degradation of his character while his physical form remains unchanged. Critics, including Josephine M. Guy and Richard Ellmann, emphasize how Wilde uses Dorian's duality to expose the limitations of an ideal that privileges beauty over morality. The essay argues that Wilde’s portrayal of Dorian’s downfall offers a cautionary tale about the dangers of vanity and self-love, echoing the myth of Narcissus. Ultimately, the novel critiques a society that values external appearance over the moral integrity of the self, demonstrating that beauty, divorced from ethical considerations, leads to moral decay and personal ruin. Through this, Wilde presents a modern reinterpretation of the Narcissus myth, warning against the destructive nature of vanity.
