The “communautéurbaine” of Saint‑Etienne Métropole reaches the status of Metropolis in 2018. This paper aims at showing that the intermunicipal cooperation in Saint‑Etienne metropolitan area is the result of a relatively recent and conflicting process, in particular for the recognition of the structuring role of the main city. The metropolitan frame of reference remains dependent on the municipal one, and still represents a major challenge to “speak with a single voice” in the context of the rescaling of public policies in France.

The article is devoted to the phenomenon of “childhood de-communization” as a process of changing the way of childhood’s conceptualizing and social practices related to childhood during the political transformation. The aim of the article is to design and justify research revealing changes in discourse about child and childhood in science and culture in post-communist Poland. Referring to the achievements of contemporary humanities and social sciences, a child and childhood are assumed as a socio-cultural construct that its representations are present in the texts of culture and science. This kind of research reveals the relationship between the concepts of a child and childhood and social practices aimed at the child. The subject of the research project has been designated in the area of education, law and the so-called private (subjective) education theories. The article describes the methodological assumptions that have their source in the field of children studies and contemporary humanities. Particular attention is paid to historical research, the post-hermeneutic trend, qualitative research related to gender studies and posthumanism. In addition, research into the “de-communization of childhood” is inspired by the concepts of Michel Foucault (1926-1984) and his analysis of the discourse of power and the work of Swiss psychoanalyst Alice Miller (1923-2010), studying the mechanisms of intergenerational transfer of negative educational concepts and so-called “black pedagogy.”

One of the main tasks facing Bulgarian schools is the preparation of competent specialists who will be equipped not only with a system of knowledge, skills and habits, but also with experience in independent creative activity and personal responsibility, i.e. specific educational competencies. The goal of the present paper is to describe, with the aid of examples from school practice, our experience in forming some key competencies – experimental, research, health and ecology related, assessment etc. ones, by using reflective activities. The results of our work in that direction indicate that the inclusion of interactive technologies in the process of education is one of the most effective methods of forming the desired competencies in students.

In recent years, there has been a significant change in the religiosity of Poles, especially among the youth. Religious education for the youth, however, has remained basically unchanged. Therefore, there is an urgent need to determine the causes of this change in religiosity and respond properly to it. This article first presents the results of sociological research on the religiosity of Polish youth conducted in the last few years, particularly 2013-2016. These results prove that Polish young people believe increasingly less in God, participate increasingly less frequently in the liturgy, and increasingly contest the moral teachings of the Church. The article then proceeds to explain the reasons for these changes, among which is what is broadly understood as a contemporary culture in which rationalism, pluralism, and tolerance dominate. The final part of the article presents ideas to enrich religious education with elements that will address the challenges of the present and make it possible to reach Polish youth.

Because the topic is complex, the representatives of various scientific disciples have taken up the question of the corporeality of the human person. For example, biological and medical science researchers analyze the human body as a biological phenomenon, while those in the humanities, philosophy, or the social sciences consider the socio-cultural dimensions of corporeality. This article takes the latter approach both by considering the thoughts of select Christian philosophers and analyzing results obtained from a study carried out among people aged 60 years and older in order to answer the following questions: Do the elderly perceive the human body as a biological or as a sociocultural reality? How does this same population understand the aging body? According to the results of this study, seniors perceive the human body at any age primarily as a biological reality. The way that the study participants experience the drama of aging, as St. Augustine calls it in his writings, could have influenced why they rarely consider the sociocultural dimension of aging.

Critical thinking skills play a vital role in a knowledge society and have a direct influence on the quality of teaching and learning. We aim at highlighting the way in which the graduation paper in Translation Studies can become an excellent opportunity to encourage students to test the applicability of key concepts from this field and to tackle research systematically. Based on our experience of supervising graduation papers on translation studies-related topics, we have identified students’ typical approaches and recurring difficulties. This allows us to suggest possible solutions for the problems encountered, depending on each stage of the process. Our purpose as supervisors is to endow students with the cognitive flexibility they need in order to draw up an adequate research plan, use translation assessment criteria creatively and hone their critical skills for future real-life situations.

The purpose of this study is to develop a framework for translator and interpreter competence in an ever-changing professional environment and provide recommendations to improve academic teaching in translation and interpreting in Russian universities in order to meet the needs of the language industry. To this end, the author discusses the results of three surveys carried out in 2017-2018. In the first survey, chief executives and vendor managers of major Russian translation companies share their experience of hiring university graduates. In the second survey, young professionals entering the Russian translation and interpreting market reflect on their university experience versus the expectations they had when enrolling in translation and interpreting programs. In the third survey, teachers of translation and interpreting from Russian universities reflect on existing academic programs in translation and interpreting.

The purpose of the research was to examine whether or not partnerships between language services organizations and institutions of higher education have a positive impact on students, the educational institutions, partnering companies, and on the language services industry as a whole. We interviewed key educational institutions within the United States as well as a select few in Europe who closely partner with organizations within the language services sector to determine whether or not their partnering experiences had a positive effect on student enrolment, student participation, post-graduate success, and appropriate job placement within the language services industry. Likewise, we interviewed leaders in the language services industry to better understand whether or not they found the partnerships to be beneficial for their own organization, and for the industry as a whole. With regard to the key players we researched, all seemed to be in favor of partnerships, and all shared tangible reasons why these partnerships are a win for all involved. Although our research seems to indicate that – at least at present – there are only a limited number of these partnerships around the globe, there is a growing interest and desire for this number to grow in the years ahead.

The article discusses the relations between autobiography and feminist philosophy, taking Luce Irigaray’s thought as an example. Although traditional philosophy usually has been perceived as anti-biographical, as it divides philosophical concepts from its material roots, feminist philosophers and theoreticians exposed materiality of knowledge by stressing the importance of its bodily, sexuated, historical, and cultural situatedness. In this sense autobiography of feminist philosophies is understood as both, public and private, academic and personal, theoretical and practical, ontological and epistemological way of knowledge production.

The paper On Essayistic Erasure of the Images of the Face: Virginia Woolf‘s “Street Haunting: A London Adventure” and Debora Vogel’s “Accacias Blooming” addresses Woolf’s and Vogel’s essayistic acts of visual experimentation challenging the conventional “face-to-face” optics. The paper argues that both nomadic auteurs decompose and erase images of the face to transgress the visible and unified subject. The essaysitic “I”s leave their domestic habitus “without the face” to explore the cityscapes. I argue that by means of such departures they can exercise potent strategies of indeterminacy, even rebellion. Gesturing towards new paradigms of the face, they transform the essay.

This paper discuss the addition of KOH and KCl to the destilation of ethanol-water mixture. The investigation were on the azeotrope point in destilation curve, the yield of ethanol as the destilation product, and also on colligative and thermodynamic properties. Meanwhile, the thermodynamics parameters were the change on Gibbs energy of mixing, ΔGmix , the entropy of mixing, ΔSmix and the evaporation enthalpy of mixture, ΔHvap. The result shows that the addition of electrolyte KOH and KCl eliminated azeotropic point as it is described in T-x distillation curve. In addition, the ethanol yield increased, the Gibbs energy of mixing, DGmix, reduced, that indicates the mixing process occurred spontaneously. The spontaneity is also supported by the value of the entropy of mixing, DSmix, which is positive. It refers to the increasing of irregularity, confirming the spontaneity of mixing process. Meanwhile, the enthalpy of evaporation, DHvap, of ethanol-water mixture 300.1105 kJ/mol. The enthalpy increase to 738.4329 kJ/mol when KOH was added and the enthalpy value is 340.2338 kJ/mol when KCl was added. It indicates that water as main component in the mixture became more difficult to vaporize and it allowed the ethanol molecules to be freely released during destillation.
