Paulopriit Voolaine kogutud lutsi muinasjutud

Author(s): Inge Annom / Language(s): Estonian Issue: 08-09/2015

The article analyses the fairy tales collected from the environs of Ludza town, Latvia, in 1925–1937 by Paulopriit Voolaine. The collected material was sent by him to the Academic Mother Tongue Society, to M. J. Eisen’s Scholarship Fellows collection and to the Estonian Folklore Archives. In the 1920s his interest was focused on the Estonian narrative tradition of the Ludza enclave, but in the 1930s he also collected the folklore of other peoples inhabiting the region. As, for historical and political reasons, the Latgale region of Latvia has been rather multicultural Voolaine’s material is excellent for cross-ethnic comparative analysis. The number of the fairy tales collected by Voolaine from different peoples of the Ludza region exceeds 230. Most of them can be classified as miracle fairy tales, but the most popular types of tales are „Fly in Place of Nail” (ATU 772*) and „The Last Leaf” (ATU 1184), the former of which is a legend-like fairy tale and the latter belongs to tales about a gullible Devil. Some versions tend to occur more consistently with certain peoples. The Ludza Estonian versions of „Cinderella” (ATU 510A), for example, resemble those collected from Setumaa rather than those told among the neighbouring peoples. The fairy tales told by Gypsies, however, share some features with legends. The article addresses but a few aspects of the treasury of fairy tales from the Ludza region. The voluminous material collected by Voolaine certainly remains a valuable source for anybody interested in comparative folklore studies.

Mecanismele memoriei. Amintire și uitare la universitarele timișorene în perioada comunistă

Author(s): Gabriela Panu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2022

The narratives of the women who were part of the university niche reveal nostalgic attitudes and focus on the positive aspects of the regime that gave them a high social and professional status. Beyond the multiple memory deficiencies, their narratives provide valuable data on the basis of which a portrait of a collective professional destiny can be constructed. The discourse on the past in general and on their career in particular reveals certain automatisms of thought and sometimes even clichés such as those that overestimate the quality of education in Ceausescu's time, the period in which they were active. The narratives of the interviewees almost turn into myths about themselves, the narration of professional facts and achievements are truly heroic, worthy of the legends with sacred characters. The self-glorification of biographies is unanimously present in their career stories, the academic women are aware of their personal value and importance and they are highlighting these things without modesty.

Metamorfozele memoriei. Biblioteca Centrală Universitară din Timişoara în memoria arhivei şi în memoria cititorilor

Author(s): Manuela Zănescu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2022

The Central University Library of Timișoara served the public with the necessary information and was not totally politically enthralled between 1948 and 1990. From the archives and testimonies of the interviewees, it appears that the University of Timișoara Library was also a source of intellectual pleasure, happiness. What I aimed to explore in the interviews and in the documents in the archives, is the information about the reading habits, about the university library collections during the totalitarian regime. In the present case study we aimed to identify the analogies contained in the written memory and the oral memory regarding the history of the library of the University of Timişoara. Starting from the documents in the files of the West University of Timişoara Archive and from the testimonies resulting from the interviews, we aim to answer questions related to reading in the library, the collections held by the library, the significance of the library during the communist regime. The validity of the information is highlighted by the certification of the statements obtained from the interviewed subjects by their overlap with the data held from other primary sources. Examining the oral texts reveals common themes and recurrent words in several of the respondents, which leads to the conclusion that individual memory outlines an image of the library.

Benchmarking definitions and classifications evolve depending on the time and criteria they focus on. The targeting, the basics and the nature of the definitions have undergone a number of alterations over time. There are numerous definitions in the scientific literature which determine the essence of benchmarking. Alternatively, they differ from the definitions given by the organizations which are implementing benchmarking in practice. Benchmarking is a continuous process of searching, measuring and comparing of the effectiveness, products, strategies, policies, operations, business environment, culture, structures, processes, systems, methods and skills in the practice of the organization, with those of „the best“ competitors, or the ones recognized as „best“ in a particular area, with the aim of continuous learning and improvement, which is a guarantee for increase of the efficiency and competitiveness of the company.

The organization of work over recent decades is moving towards the introduction of new and flexible forms of employment that give workers more freedom to pursue their profession. For the employer, these flexible working conditions offer the opportunity to keep in touch with their workers even outside working hours, communicating effectively with them and getting help from them wherever they are physically. The place where such work is done is beyond the traditional and official office space of the enterprise – for example at home, in cafes, restaurants, in nature, while waiting at the airport etc. The present publication outlines the main theoretical and legal provisions regarding the possibilities for work in the virtual space in Bulgaria. Recommendations have also been made on the methods for finding reliable remote work and the major challenges and problems with remote access work.

Inwentarz zespołu „Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne w Gnieźnie” z zasobu Archiwum Archidiecezjalnego w Gnieźnie

Author(s): Łukasz Krucki,Justyna Mizerka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 119/2022

Founded in 1960 by Primate Stefan Wyszynski, the Gniezno Archdiocesan Archive was assigned with the role of collecting, preserving, processing and providing access to archival materials related to the history of the Archdiocese and Metropolis of Gniezno. The ‘Ecclesiastical Seminary in Gniezno’ fond, which reflects the history of one of the oldest seminaries functioning in the Polish lands, occupies an important place in its collection. The Gniezno Seminary was founded by Archbishop Stanisław Karnkowski in 1602. However, its erection witnessed unfavourable times, and consequently proved unsustainable. In 1718, Archbishop Stanisław Szembek reestablished the seminary and entrusted its administration to the missionaries of St Vincent à Paulo. It survived in that form until 1835. After the dissolution of the congregation under the Prussian partition, Archbishop Marcin Dunin decided to transform the Gniezno seminary into a practical education facility for seminarians. This form of institution survived until 1927, although the seminary was closed in 1875–1886 as a result of the kulturkampf. In 1927, Cardinal August Hlond eorganized the seminary’s studies. In Gniezno, he established a full philosophical study for seminarians from the archdioceses of Gniezno and Poznań. During World War II, the Germans set up a police school in the building. Seminar classes did not resume until April 1945. In 1953, Cardinal S. Wyszyński managed to consolidate philosophical and theological studies in Gniezno. Since 1998, the Gniezno seminary has been part of the Faculty of Theology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, while retaining its own legal personality and organizational distinctiveness. The rich tradition of the Gniezno seminary has resulted in a preservation of extensive archival resource concerning its activities. It includes 376 units that refer to documentation produced after 1718. This is because the earlier documents produced by the seminary’s registry have not survived, as evidenced by the printed inventory report accompanying this study. It includes archives with distinguishable thematic groups of files: alumni; regulations and curricula; library; income and expenditure; contracts and accounts; Braciszewo estate; inventories; correspondence; archbishop’s boarding school; foreign seminary; priestly retreats; construction records.

Biblioteka arcybiskupa ormiańskiego Józefa Teodorowicza: jej losy w czasie II wojny światowej i w latach powojennych

Biblioteka arcybiskupa ormiańskiego Józefa Teodorowicza: jej losy w czasie II wojny światowej i w latach powojennych

Author(s): Tomasz Krzyżowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 119/2022

Archbishop Jozef Teodorowicz (1864–1938), Ordinary of the Armenian Archdiocese of Lviv, was a respected preacher, author of theological works and a patriot active in many areas of religious and social life in Poland. The hierarch amassed an impressive private library of several thousand volumes in Polish, Latin, German, French and other languages. The collection of old prints, including rare Armenianlanguage publications and manuscripts, was of particular value. The book collection constituted a workshop for the ambitious priest, preacher and writer, and later archbishop, as well as shaped his views on sociopolitical issues. The archbishop successively expanded and complemented the library’s resources throughout his life, keeping abreast of the book and antiquarian market both in Poland and abroad. The subject matter of the book collection varied. The largest group included religious publications, primarily representing various branches of theology: biblical studies, theology of spirituality, dogmatic theology, moral theology, liturgy, apologetics, and canon law. Several hundred works were devoted to the life of Jesus Christ, Mariology and hagiography. Interestingly, the authors of the theological works (mostly biblical commentaries) included representatives of various factions of Protestantism, Orthodox Christians and rabbis. J. Teodorowicz’s library also contained many publications of fiction by both Polish and foreign authors, as well as philosophical treatises, studies of Church history and general history, political science, culture, and art history. The book collection also included many works on psychology and the education and formation of youth. During World War II, the library of Archbishop J. Teodorowicz was fragmented and dispersed. Part of the collection was destroyed by Soviet soldiers quartered in the archbishop’s palace in Lviv, and the surviving books were deposited in 1940 at the Lviv branch of the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (the former Ossoliński National Institute). Fragments of the preserved book collection are currently in several institutions in Ukraine and Poland.

Contemporary public libraries are centers of social life, places of meeting and exchanging thoughts, which contribute to consolidating social bonds. In recent years, the changes in culture and education made librarians face new challenges and the development of information society brought changes to the image of library institutions.
