e-Infrastruktura: preludium cyfrowej humanistyki

Author(s): Michał Starczewski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 02/2015

Mature research projects in the area of the digital humanities need advanced resources in the form of an e-infrastructure. Until one is built, we should not expect the potential of digital technologies to be fully harnessed. E-infrastructure tools can be divided into three groups: 1. those supporting current scientific communication, 2. data repositories, 3. those making digital sources available. Because digital research differs in nature from traditional research, it requires an open and interoperable e-infrastructure. Otherwise it is in danger of fragmentation, which will prevent effective research work.

Praćenje i obezbjeđivanje kvaliteta podataka u uzajamnoj bibliografskoj bazi: slovenska iskustva

Author(s): Ema Dornik / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 24/2019

This paper presents the Slovenian experience with monitoring bibliographic record growth and data quality in the COBIB.SI union bibliographic database. The data on the growth of the union database between 2014 and 2018 is shown. Apart from quantitative data, the activities within the framework of the system for assuring higher quality of the union database are presented. The data on monitoring the work of cataloguers – beginners both before and after acquiring the licence for shared cataloguing is shown. This includes the activity of simultaneous monitoring of bibliographic record quality with the emphasis on monitoring the quality of bibliographic records with shortcomings of the same type and monitoring the records of the so-called daily production. The initial individual approach later proved ineffective. Analyses of certain performed activities have shown that today more than 60% of detected errors are fixed on average. The responsiveness of cataloguers is high, and they have received the activities well. We notice that we are not only informing but also raising awareness e.g. on certain innovations or tools in the field of cataloguing. Based on growth analyses and trend monitoring it will be easier to plan possible database interventions, perform additional data analyses, plan new software updates and similar in the future. We hope our experience is welcome for all members of COBISS.net.

COBISS u Makedoniji: osvrt povodom dva jubileja

COBISS u Makedoniji: osvrt povodom dva jubileja

Author(s): Žaklina Gjalevska / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 24/2019

This paper provides a brief overview of the COBISS organizational model and software usage in the development of the national library information system in Macedonia over the past 30 years. The beginnings of COBISS usage have been running since 1989 within the shared cataloguing system in the SNTIJ / BIS project. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia and the failure of the shared cataloguing system, several Macedonian libraries have again started t use COBISS software due to the need to introduce new technologies and to automate their processes. In 2004, when a great number of libraries showed interest to use COBISS software, the Ministry of Culture of RM has decided to use the COBISS platform for the development of the national library information system of Macedonia, and for this purpose, in the National and University Library “Sv. Kliment Ohridski “ has established centre of the Virtual Library of Macedonia, i.e. VLM Centre. For the past 15 years, COBISS.MK has been operating and evolving according to COBISS.Net development plans. By the end of this anniversary year, more than 70 libraries (national, public, higher education and special) will be included in the system. The decades-long implementation of COBISS has made it possible for online libraries to be seen, to save and to organize the time in the process of the library materials catalogu-ing, and to animate the public by increasing the interest in the use of libraries.
