Summary/Abstract: Mature research projects in the area of the digital humanities need advanced resources in the form of an e-infrastructure. Until one is built, we should not expect the potential of digital technologies to be fully harnessed. E-infrastructure tools can be divided into three groups: 1. those supporting current scientific communication, 2. data repositories, 3. those making digital sources available. Because digital research differs in nature from traditional research, it requires an open and interoperable e-infrastructure. Otherwise it is in danger of fragmentation, which will prevent effective research work.
