Editorul A.F. Grekulov. Creionări de portret

Editorul A.F. Grekulov. Creionări de portret

Author(s): Elena Ploșniță / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2024

The article sheds light on A.F. Grekulov, a multifaceted and complex figure, who made a significant contribution to the development of pedagogy, museology and photography in Bessarabia. But above all, he was a keen bibliophile. It was a famous publisher in Bessarabia of the Modern era. He can be called a polymath who had outstanding achievements in several fields of activity. However, he is one of those Bessarabian figures of the Modern era about whose life and works almost nothing has been written, although the archives contain a lot of unpublished materials about him. Public and private collections of the Republic of Moldova contain books and magazines published by A.F. Grekulov. This article attempts to sketch a portrait of A.F. Grekulov, highlighting, first of all, his activities as a publisher and educator and simultaneously touching on the topics of his passion for photography, his direct and indirect relationship to the politics of Bessarabia in 1917-1918, arrest in Moscow in 1924 and rehabilitation in 2003. экскурсии и школьный музей” (“School Excursions and the School Museum”), a member of the Association of Bessarabian Publishers, a member of the editorial board of the journal “Вестник Бессарабского земства” (“Bulletin of the Bessarabian Zemstvo”) and editor of the collection “Новая школа” (“New School”). The magazine “Школьные экскурсии и школьный музей” (“School Excursions and the School Museum”) was a professional periodical that occupied an important place in the Empire’s press. This museum and pedagogical magazine was published in 1913-1917. The purpose of this specialized publication was to inform teachers, museum workers, students and everyone interested in organizing museums and conducting excursions. The topics covered various types of activities: collecting, storage, restoration, teaching, working with visitors, etc. In addition to these topics, chronicles of important museum events were also published here. On the pages of the magazine, one could find materials about the activities of museum workers in Russia and European countries. It was a useful tool in the work of museums and a good educational aid. A.F. Grekulov conducted an intensive correspondence with Bessarabian intellectuals regarding the need to reform the education system. His discussions with Nicolae Alexandri and Paul Gore were focused on the need for teaching in the Bessarabian school in Romanian. A.F. Grekulov highly appreciated and promoted the works of these Bessarabian intellectuals. Within the Association of Bessarabian Publishers, he advocated the publication of textbooks and educational literature, and laid the foundations for the “New School” series. He published several textbooks, including “Приготовление препаратов” (“Preparation of Drugs”) (Bendery, 1915), “Устройство новой школы” (“Establishment of a New School”) (Chișinău, 1917), “Мои экскурсии с детьми” (“My Excursions with Children”) (Odessa, 1919), which are kept today in private and state collections of the Republic of Moldova and Russia. He also initiated public lectures on school reform, and later published them as separate works. This, although fragmentary, information from various sources, included in our article, may be of interest to history buffs, as well as serve as a valuable resource for professional researchers. This is just the beginning and deserves to be continued.

Muzičko obrazovanje u kontekstu modernizacije školstva u Hrvatskoj tokom 19. veka

Author(s): Tomislav Košta / Language(s): English Issue: 33/2024

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate to what extent the legislative efforts for the modernization of the school system in Croatia during the 19th century influenced the development of music education in elementary schools. The need for the state to regulate education became increasingly pronounced during the 18th and 19th centuries, leading to the enactment of key legislative documents during the period that had a considerable effect on the school system, and as such served as a foundation upon which the modern education as we know it today was built. The importance of the documents analysed is observed not only through the lens of shaping the school system but also in the context of music education. This opened the door for music educators of various profiles to strive for the improvement of music teaching. Initially, music education was limited to singing activities, but soon debates emerged about whether singing was sufficient and whether other elements of music education should be incorporated into the curriculum. These debates are followed through publications in professional journals, as well as through the analysis of textbooks and teaching materials that were created and used in music education during the 19th century.

Ethics for Early Education; Core Concepts for Approaching Ethical Issues

Author(s): Roxana Ghiatau / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

Early Education is a strategic area for individual and social development. Kindergartens are spaces for ethical practice, where teachers make decisions for the children they are responsible for. The major aim of this theoretical study is to propose approaches to ethical decision-making in working with young children, with the role of improving self-reflection for teachers and future teachers. The secondary aims of the study are: 1. To identify the values and ethical guidelines for ethical-decision in Early Education; 2. To establish core concepts for approaching ethical issues, including the use of ethical codes; 3. To propose case studies in order to stimulate teachers‘ ethical reflection. A set of basic ideas of professional ethics in Early Education is presented below: (a) The Early Education profession is primarily an emotional, relational and ethical practice. Teachers bring to school their personal values, from the places where they live. (b) In order to make ethical decisions teachers need to understand the difference between the professional ethics area and the personal area. (c) Teachers should not confuse personal dilemmas with professional ethics dilemmas. Our study can provide guidelines for developing a professional learning protocol to support teachers' ethical reasoning. Reflection on issues of ethical practice exposes teachers and future teachers to various perspectives, expanding their knowledge of children and teaching.

Investigating the Relationship between Metacognition and STREAM Education in Science: An Exploratory Study

Author(s): Lavinia ŞUTEU,Mădălina CRISTEA,Ioana Magdaş,Liliana Ciascai / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Metacognition and STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering and Math) education are indisputable in today’s informational society for both personal and professional development. The current study aims to investigate the potential relationship between these two variables. Although there is not yet a substantial theoretical background that integrates both concepts into a coherent perspective, research on this topic can provide relevant insights on how to analyze and incorporate these concepts into a consistent theoretical and empirical paradigm. For this purpose, 3rd year students who are preparing themselves to become primary and preschool teachers participated in the study. They were given an online link to a self-reported measure of metacognition in science (the MAI scale) and an assessment task that measured how well they integrate STREAM knowledge with science-related topics. Data analysis revealed a significant relationship between metacognition and STREAM knowledge in science education. Moreover, it seems that metacognition is a significant predictor of STREAM knowledge. The results of this study are highly valuable in the context of the scarcity of research on this topic, being a starting point for the development of a theoretical perspective to explain the metacognition - STREAM education relationship.

BULLYING, A DISTURBING PHENOMENON PRESENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN MACEDONIA

BULLYING, A DISTURBING PHENOMENON PRESENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN MACEDONIA

Author(s): Mariana Prilepchanska Krupishki,Jasminka Durdubakova / Language(s): English Issue: 5/2024

No country is immune to bullying crisis. This is one of the reasons why most people in institutions, media and agencies spread the message that bullying has adverse effects on both victims and many other things as well. Where did the word "bullying" come from? The term originates from the Middle Dutch word "boele," which translates to "lover." Initially, in English, "bully" referred to a "sweetheart." Over time, its meaning broadened to signify "fine fellow," and ultimately evolved to denote the contrary: "swaggering coward." This latter usage of "bully" emerged around the 1700s. But what is bullying? Bullying is the verbal or physical bullying of another student by one or several classmates in his own class. The target is repeatedly bullied or battered and generally this individual feels fearful-there is never any security, he/she is always at a disadvantage, all alone. The concepts of "bullying," "harassment," and "peer victimization" are frequently referenced in academic literature to describe behaviors characterized by aggression, which are executed repeatedly over a period and occur within interpersonal relationships marked by a power disparity (Eisenberg and Aalsma, 2005). While there is some overlap in the usage of these terms within the literature, peer victimization specifically refers to the aggressive actions of one child directed towards another, resulting in physical, emotional, social, or psychological damage. A report published in 2012 by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children highlights that over one billion children globally are enrolled in educational institutions. While many of these children benefit from the right to learn in a secure and encouraging environment, a significant number do not have access to such conditions. These boys and girls face various forms of violence, including bullying, sexual and gender-based violence, corporal punishment, and other abusive behaviors. Bullying refers to any unwelcome aggressive actions exhibited by an individual or a group of individuals who are not siblings or current romantic partners. This behavior is characterized by a discernible or perceived imbalance of power and occurs repeatedly or has a high probability of recurrence. The impact of bullying can cause significant harm or distress to the victimized youth, which may manifest in physical, psychological, social, or educational forms. Additionally, they are often subjected to physical confrontations in schoolyards, gang-related violence, assaults involving weapons, and peer-to-peer sexual and gender-based violence. Furthermore, emerging forms of violence, particularly cyberbullying through mobile devices, computers, websites, and social media platforms, are increasingly impacting the lives of children. The issue of peer violence has become an integral part of children's lives in Macedonia from a very young age. Recent years have seen numerous studies confirming this daily reality, while media reports frequently highlight cases that indicate the situation is becoming increasingly alarming. To emphasize the significance of this pressing issue and to propose a pathway towards a gradual resolution, "Makpetrol" has launched the educational campaign "Raise Your Voice Against Peer Violence."

Social Inclusion Attitude, an Insight among Teachers from Disadvantaged Areas

Author(s): Gabriel Mareş,Cristina Cîrtiţă-Buzoianu,Venera-Mihaela Cojocariu,Brîndușa - Mariana Amălancei,Liliana Mâţă / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

The concept of social inclusion is about accepting diversity and acknowledging the need to find solutions and mechanisms to meet the specific particularities of all types of people. The issue of social inclusion was particularly relevant in the past century context and it has maintained its topicality in the social-economic and political context of the 21st century. The present research is a analysis of the attitude of a group of secondary school teachers on next research topics: self-evaluation of knowledge about social inclusion; self perception regarding its importance and its impact on the school and local community; their perception of social inclusion; their opinions about the causes of social exclusion and the identification of effective strategies and best practices in facilitating social inclusion. The aim of our approach has been to identify the perspective of the teachers working in high schools from disadvantaged areas, especially in the rural ones, in order to identify some supporting models and to find future paths of specific intervention. We believe that our approach can lead to the identification of effective tools for the cooperation and collaboration between the pre-university and university levels for planning activities related to teacher training on inclusive education and equal opportunities, and for being able to facilitate the access of disadvantaged students to all kinds of education.

„Przytomnie patrzeć na dzieje”

„Przytomnie patrzeć na dzieje”

Author(s): Grzegorz Kucharczyk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2024
