Street art is the most popular, dynamically evolving art form in the world today. It also has the largest audience. At the same time, it remains ephemeral, variable and limitless, and is subject to continuous processes of commercialization, institutionalization and mediatization. As a fruit of the remix culture, street art draws on everything that has already appeared in art: it mixes, transforms, copies and pastes. It cannot be easily defined, and the existing criteria for evaluating art seem inapplicable in its case. In no way should this imply, however, that street art cannot be analyzed. In the book, the author describes selected problems of street art and graffiti using both traditional and contemporary concepts, terminology and methods. She focuses on the relationship between word and image, on highlighting the invisible. The reader learns about street art in both its serious and comic manifestations. The author does not strive to exhaust the subject; on the contrary, she puts forward a preliminary reflection on this still unbridled and expansive form of artistic expression, thus initiating a discussion which the world of art will probably soon pick up.

W 2018 r. na UAM w Poznaniu w Instytucie Filozofii obronił pracę doktorską Estetyka chmur i obłoków. Studium z filozofii kultury. Regularnie publikuje artykuły w kwartalniku Panacea w cyklu „Natura i Sztuka”. Jego dzieła malarskie prezentowane są na aukcjach i wystawach, trafiają do kolekcji prywatnych. The study of „Post–war monumental work of Xawery Dunikowski 1945-1964’’ analyses complex issues of late monumental art of this doyen of native sculpture, the process of its formation in reality of a Polish communist state, as well as formal and thematic quality. The monographic presentation of three main works: Monument to the Uprising on St. Anna’s Mountain (1946-1955), Monument to the Liberation of the Warmia and Mazury Region in Olsztyn (1949-1954) and designs for the Monument to the Heroes of Warsaw (1956-1958), it completes a panoramic overview of his other monuments from that time. A multi-aspect look at Dunikowski’s final monumental creation does not offer unequivocal answers, but a rich overview of this diverse art of the authorship of the outstanding personality of a multi-epochal artist. The dissertation reminds about this unique creation, it describes its precisely, contextualizes and reinterprets.

Украсата на старобългарските ръкописи до края на XI век (= Кирило-Методиевски студии. Кн. 12)

The study deals with the ornamentation – initials, head-pieces, tail-pieces and miniatures – in the Old Bulgarian manuscripts of the First Bulgarian Kingdom and the continuation of the same tradition in the manuscripts of the 11th century. This is the first specific study of the decoration of each of the preserved Bulgarian written monuments of the Early Middle Ages. For outlining the circle of models from which the Old Bulgarian copyists and miniaturists had drawn inspiration were used stylistic and iconographic parallels testifying to links above all with pre-iconoclastic art and the art of the eastern provinces of the Byzantine Empire. As a result of this are predated some manuscripts such as the "Savina Book", the Codex Suprasliensis and Dobromir's Gospel. For amplifying the picture were studied also the more recent Russian copies, which copied not only the text but also the ornamentation of the Old Bulgarian protographs, translated and decorated in the palace scriptorium of the Bulgarian King Simeon in Preslav in the 10th c. Moreover the subject has been specified of the four miniatures on a whole leaf before the two parts of the so-called Svetoslav's Florilegium, as depictions of the first four Ecumenical Councils. The study was the last scholarly work of Vera Mavrodinova, the chief director for many years of the excavtions in the first Christian Bulgarian capital of Preslav. It was completed in 1979 with the assistance of senior research associate Liliana Mavrodinova who tried to bring up to date to a certain degree some formulations.

Written at the turn of 2021/2022, the monograph From Sublimity to Arbitrariness. Painting in the Tragic Time summarises numerous reflections and comments contained in two previous books: Pamięć czasu – malarstwo w czasie bankructwa duchowego [Memory of Time – Painting in a Time of Spiritual Bankruptcy] and Malarstwo jako egzystencja – tożsamość osobista a postawa twórcza [Painting as Existence – Personal Identity versus Creative Attitude]. The new publication, written in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and, above all, the barbaric war in Ukraine, addresses the fundamental challenge of the present time concerning the foundations of the collapse of man's spiritual condition at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The striking disappearance of moral and ethical content at the present time results in an exceptionally repulsive manifestation of numerous attitudes, where the pursuit of material goods effectively eliminates from our lives everything that is connected with a deep reflection on the meaning of human existence, its universal values, rigours, principles without which our life irretrievably loses its human dimension, turning into a hostile space of numerous threats, fears, frustrations, traumatic experiences and emotions. All this results in a growing avalanche of depressing arbitrariness and the striving for so-called freedom from everything, which only deepens the feeling of the current chaos and entropy in interpersonal relations, where the possibility of communicating with another human being becomes a fundamental problem.

Santini and Italy

This book contains proceedings of the international conference Santini and Italy, held in Rome in June 2023. In his contribution, Augusto Roca de Amicis describes the nature of the structural relations of Santini's work to Italian architecture. Pavel Kalina discusses the development of Santini scholarship in the art historical literature of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Richard Biegel shows in his contribution that the sources of Santini's work can be found not only in Italian but also in French architecture. Michael Young's text points to the connection between Santini's architecture and contemporary literary theory and practice, which blended different languages and styles. In his article, Ulrich Fürst stresses the importance of a sense of originality for the design of the Benedictine monastery church at Rajhrad, whose construction demonstrated its independence from the monastery of Břevnov, for which the Dientzenhofers worked. Johana Bronková explores the relationship between Santini's architecture and the work of the great Italian architect Francesco Borromini. Marisa Tabarrini presents a completely new discovery - the unknown plans of Santini's church of St. Peter and Paul in Prague's Zderaz. Important for understanding the functioning of Baroque buildings is the article by Jakub Řehak, who analyses the water and ventilation system of the monastery in Plasy. On the other hand, Madleine Riedenklau's text is devoted to the literature on the monastery and church in Sedlec. Irena Bukačová introduces the reader to the past and present of the pilgrimage site in Mariánská Týnice.
