The Effects of Student-Teacher and Student-Student Relationship on School Engagement: an Empirical Research in Bulgaria

Author(s): Petar Valkov,Elena Lavrentsova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2019

School dropout is an important social and economic problem that affects society as a whole and is strongly tied to family psychopathology, individual characteristics and school related factors. Studies show that conflicting teacher-student and student-student relationships are closely related to students’ decision to drop out of school. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of teacher-student and student-student relationships, as perceived by students, on willingness to attend school, academic achievement, and prosocial behaviours. The sample consisted of 152 students (53,3% male and 46,7% female) who are studying in low secondary schools, including Roma schools. Results from statistical analysis support the significance of student-students and student-teacher positive relationship as an important factor for school engagement. In conclusion, supportive and caring teacher-student relationships and conflict free peer relationships are related to increased school engagement, motivation for learning, and academic performance. In contrary, children who experience lower quality relationships with teachers and peers (feel rejected or socially excluded) tend to become dissatisfied with school and are at a higher risk for dropping out.

Математически турнир „Домино „Обикновени дроби“ като събитие на STEM Discovery Week

Author(s): Toni Chehlarova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2019

The mathematical tournament is considered in an educational context, with an expectation to increase the educational effect of the use of didactic game due to its repeatability and additional motivation for victory. The European STEM Discovery Week initiative for STEM education in school and the cooperation of stakeholders in this field is presented. The “Mathematical Tournament” Domino “Fractions” has been described as one of the events in Bulgaria held within this initiative. The didactic Domino “Fractions” is considered. In its development, it was used the idea of incorporating Moritz Escher’s tessellating tiles in the depiction of fractions. Specific features have been described, for example, in most cases, in two-color coloring, two different common fragments can be represented by one figure. Discussed are tasks with tiles of the considered domino. Digital resources with free access are provided in the Virtual Mathematics Laboratory, developed in the Education in Mathematics and Informatics Department of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which can be used for preparation for a game of dominoes and self-examination for the understanding of common fractions. The results of the solution of a tasks of didactic domino tiles “Fractions” in the online VIVA Mathematics with Computer Competition are analyzed.

Участието в неформално образование в европейска сравнителна перспектива: стимулиращи и ограничаващи фактори

Author(s): Petya Ilieva-Trichkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2019

The article’s purpose is twofold. First, it aims at demonstrating the heuristic potential of the capability approach in rethinking the lifelong learning and in particular the non-formal education. Second, it aims at exploring the factors which influence the participation in non-formal education among the group of young adults in a European comparative perspective. At a theoretical level, it applies the capability approach framework to the conceptualizing non-formal education as a capability. At a methodological level, it makes a secondary data analysis on Adult Education Survey (2011) and the official statistics by using descriptive statistics and multilevel modeling for 17 countries. The results show that there are considerable differences in the participation in non-formal education between the European countries and that the participation in non-formal education is much more than personal responsibility and is, in fact, a result of a wide range of factors both at individual and country level. These factors may constrain but also enable the chances which young adults have to participate in non-formal education. Among the factors which are identified as important at the country level are the economic climate, the active labour market measures, the expenses paid by the employers for training and the level of innovation.

Verification of Accumulative Frame System in Programming Training

Author(s): Silvia Gaftandzhieva,Rositsa Doneva / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2019

The paper presents a part of a study conducted for the needs of e-learning on the application of frames for representation of knowledge and processes in training on a particular subject domain. As a result of the study the classical notion of the frame models is developed further and the so-called accumulative frame model is proposed. The main rationales for the introduction of the accumulative frame model are: (1) to provide a formalism for conceptual modelling in subject domains and (2) to serve as a basis for automation of e-learning and e-training activities by implementation of intelligent tools for extraction, aggregation and accumulation of data and knowledge for educational needs. A system of 36 accumulative frame models and its verification for fulfilment of the intended purpose in the rationale (1) are presented.

REGIMUL EXCEPȚIONAL ÎN DOBROGEA (1878-1909). REFLECȚII PRIVIND PROCESUL INTEGRĂRII LA STATUL ROMÂN

REGIMUL EXCEPȚIONAL ÎN DOBROGEA (1878-1909). REFLECȚII PRIVIND PROCESUL INTEGRĂRII LA STATUL ROMÂN

Author(s): Sorin Mureșanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: III seria3/2021

The present paper goal is to analyse the motivations behind the exceptional regime in Dobrudja, after the Berlin Treaty (1878) and integration to Romania. After a two year transitory governance, Romanian legislators adopted so-called Dobrudja Constitution, a law which established the rules by which the new province was to be governed. This law included many exceptions from the normal social and administrative life from the rest of Romania, including those regarding political rights. Almost 30 years, until 1909, people from Dobrudja cannot exert those rights and the local governance was assured by governmental decisions, the prefect being an almost absolute authority. This long time of discrimination was justified by the very different - social, judiciary, religious, cultural, ethnic – character of the province, after four and a half centuries of inclusion in the Ottoman Empire. Romanian authorities decided, in view of this reality, that a complete integration cannot be made until the people of the province become aware of their new situation, rights and obligations. It was the best solution at that time, which assured a smooth integration, without social or ethnic conflicts. Despite of some voices from the political opposition, the law from 1880 was generally accepted and the public opinion from Romania agreed that an immediate and total integration was not the best decision. Romanian decidents found the ways through which integration of Dobrudja become permanent, even if exceptional measures was needed.

The game - fundamental achievement strategy for non-formal education

Author(s): Florentina Adriana Blandul / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2021

Who doesn't remember their childhood with pleasure? Whether it's about preschool or low school period, childhood remains the most beautiful stage in the life of any man. Arguments that can be invoked in this regard are multiple, ranging from the state of physical and mental comfort that defines health, to the emotional and social security that a balanced family can provide. Even if these elements are missing (totally or partially), childhood worries are not compared to those of an adult. First aid refers to actions taken when a person is injured or feeling suddenly bad. Лингвокогнитивни, интеркултурни и социолингвистични особености на немските лексикални единици, съдържащи суфиксоида -weise

Author(s): Elena Nikolova-Kiskinova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2022

The focus of the present study is on the lexical units containing the -weise suffixoid, presented in a broader extralinguistic aspect. The category unites two subgroups: on the one hand words meaning an objective characteristic of what is happening in the sentence, and on the other – words expressing the subjective attitude of the speaker to the content of the sentence. The word forms from the second subgroup modify the meaning of the whole sentence and are characterized by emphasized communicative significance, emotional saturation, subjective nuance and motivation. Emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary directions: linguo cognitive, culturological and sociolinguistic, in order to make the most of the opportunities they offer to supplement and deepen the semantic analysis of the studied words and the specifics of their use. The article summarizes the results of a survey conducted both among native speakers and among learners of German as a foreign language in different linguistic and cultural environments, taking into account their reactions based on language sense in the same communicative situation. The analysis unequivocally confirms our understanding that as an integral part of cognition, language reflects the interaction between communicative and socio-cultural factors. Based on the established regularities, a concept should be developed to help students learning German as a foreign language in mastering and using the studied lexical units.

Культурная память и прецедентные феномены

Author(s): Valeriy Efremov,Valentina Danilovna Chernyak,Nadya Cherneva / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2022

The paper provides a brief historical overview of the emergence and semantic enrichment of the concept of cultural memory in modern philological research, going back to the works of German historians (J. and A. Assman) and Soviet philologists (Y. M. Lotman, B. M. Gasparov and Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School). It is shown that in modern philological science it is most productive to conduct the analysis of cultural memory and its dynamics on the basis of the theory of precedent phenomena by Y. N. Karaulov. It is the study of the precedent fund of linguoculture and the intertextual thesaurus of personality that makes possible to fully reconstruct the verbal component of the cultural memory of a particular linguoculture and detect or predict the inevitable sections of the generation gap.

Родителски тренинг, специфициран на базата възраст на детето

Author(s): Teodora Stoycheva Stoeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2022

The article addresses the issue of parenting training related to improving parenting skills and reducing ineffective parenting practices. Based on a study of parenting styles leading to emotional and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents, recommendations are made for educating parents based on the age of their children. For children, the results show that emotional neglect, overt rejection, authoritarianism, and punishment are important for the onset of emotional and behavioral disorders. This determines the need for parents to apply supportive and guiding strategies in their behavior towards their children. For adolescence, the results show that authoritarianism, punishment, lack of empathy, and lack of cooperation are important for the emergence of emotional and behavioral problems. This determines the need for the parent to effectively implement not only the supportive and guiding strategy, but also the cooperation strategy. The article also addresses the issue of individual counseling of the parent, which aims to activate his reflexive ego and develop a meta-position regarding the deep roots of his own behavior.

Two-tier Model of Training Future Teachers for Coaching at Out-of-School Institutions

Author(s): Borys Savchuk,Tetyana Pantyuk,Natalia Sultanova,Halyna Bilavych,Mykola Pantyuk / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The article presents a two-tier model of training future teachers for work in out-of-school educational institutions based on coaching. Its essence is that at the first level, the future teachers master the theoretical and methodological foundations of coaching both with the help of university teachers and independently, and at the second stage, they, first with the teachers’ support and then independently, organize training based on coaching in out-of-school training institutions and thus in the process of working with children develop their professional competencies. For theoretical justification and practical verification of this model effectiveness, a pedagogical experiment was organized at the Carpathian National University, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. During its conduct, the prognostic tools developed by the authors of this study to determine the level of students' readiness for self-development and the coaching methodology of pedagogical training were tested. Based on the results of the research and the experiment, the effectiveness of the presented model and the feasibility of its use in the work of general educational, out-of-school and higher education institutions are substantiated.

University Learning Outcomes: Statement of the Issue within the Theory of Ill-Posed Problems

Author(s): Alma Turganbayeva,Maktagali Bektemessov,Marina Skiba / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The article discusses the problem of determining the learning outcomes for educational programs of the university, including at the program level and the level of individual disciplines included in the program. The goal is to substantiate the understanding of the definition of learning outcomes at a university as an inverse ill-posed problem within the framework of the theory of ill-posed problems, which will allow further reengineering of the educational process at a university based on models of inverse and ill-posed problems. The article identifies the types of uncertainty inherent in education, which affect the possibility of an incorrect decision. The publication substantiates a new understanding of the educational process focused on learning outcomes at a university, as a process of finding a solution to an inverse incorrect problem. In this case, the learning outcomes formulated for a specific educational program are considered as an available solution to the inverse problem. The research carried out by the authors made it possible to construct a mathematical model of the educational process at the university and identify its components. The authors demonstrate that the optimal way to design the educational process is to design it as an inverse problem, and the list of disciplines, their content and the corresponding learning outcomes are determined and developed at subsequent stages, focusing on the goals of the program.

Based on the nature of ethical education, we believe that it creates a suitable space for the implementation of experiential forms and methods of education. Concerning ethical education, it applies more than in other subjects that the primary thing is not the amount of knowledge, but a direct reflection and the inner acquisition of attitudes for practical life.
