THE TRUST IN INSTITUTIONS AND MANAGER ASSOCIATION

Author(s): Mirjana Radman- Funarić / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2018

Recent research suggests that greater business co-operation between enterprises is associated with a higher level of social capital of an individual. Since managers are basically people who base their activity on co-operation, the goal of this paper is to establish a link between the level of social capital of managers in cluster-based companies with their assessment of the activity and results of those activities in clusters. The analysis includes all dimensions and elements of social capital and the perception of managers on the business results of mutual cooperation. For this purpose, the Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) and the nonparametric statistical method (Kendall Tau-b correlation; τb) were used to avoid the conclusion using only one of the methods. The results have shown that there is a statistically significant, but weak, correlation between trust in institutions and active membership in associations with managers' assessment of joint activities within the cluster. This research has shown that there is a statistically significant association between multiple memberships of managers in associations with their higher grade of activity within the cluster. The results have shown that general trust and perception of compliance with the norms of citizens is negatively associated with a higher grade of cluster activity, but these results are not statistically significant.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION IN PRE-SCHOOL AGE

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION IN PRE-SCHOOL AGE

Author(s): Mirna Harwood,Abdul Rahman Omar / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

This paper presents a study investigating the use of digital technology - tablets and mobile phones by six pre-school children in Požega, Croatia and the way this technology facilitated the English language learning process through its content. The children involved were two boys and four girls aged between four to five. The paper’s introduction reflects on today’s widespread use of digital technology amongst the young learners. The study itself was conducted using two quantitative research methods – contextual interviews with the pre-school children and interviews with the children’s parents. The study findings indicated that the children preferred multimodal content such as cartoons and video games with colourful themes or characters, that prompt or ask questions, i.e. encourage participation. A strong preference for English speakers changing pitch and tone within the content was also indicated in the findings. The findings pointed to children’s preference towards music videos – nursery rhymes teaching letters, numbers or colours. Finally, gaming videos and tutorials were a common choice of content for all six children, where they were mostly exposed to visual and aural prompts. In conclusion, the children independently selected multimodal content: cartoons, videos games, tutorials, gaming videos and nursery rhymes which all shared visual, aural, linguistic and spatial modes of communication. The research provided a valuable insight into the type of digital content that pre-school children opt for in non-educational environment and how they acquire basic communication skills in English as a result.

Konšpiračné teórie – základné teoretické východiská

Author(s): Radoslav Ivančík / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 1/2022

Conspiracy theories – the belief that many significant events are secretly manipulated behind the scenes by powerful forces – exist in all societies. However, in recent years, their influence and popularity have been steadily increasing, especially with the rapid increase in the number of fake news and disinformation shared with the use of modern information and communication technologies in cyberspace. Some conspiracy theories can be harmless fun or a manifestation of some legitimate scepticism. However, some of them can be very dangerous, leading to a loss of confidence in medical, scientific, and specialized expertise, political non-involvement and even violence in some cases. This is one of the reasons why conspiracy theories are a major challenge for human society today, and the reason why the author of this article deals with them in his interdisciplinary research.

Vliv sdílené komunikace podniku na efektivitu inovátorů v letech 2006 až 2010

Author(s): František Stellner,Marek Vokoun / Language(s): Czech Issue: 1/2017

The study analyses the influence of sharing information and communication on activities and effectiveness of innovators during the observed period of the economic crisis in 2006 - 2010. The authors come to the conclusion that improving the sharing communication or information in companies influences expenses on scientific activities of companies; however, it does not contribute to raising the productivity of innovators. It can be explained by stating that these companies have a well-organised system of sharing communication, which allows them to introduce new innovations to the market to produce higher profits. Companies that either introduce less important innovations to the markets or are not innovators can profit from improving their communication. These companies have higher work productivity; focusing on further markets and foreign ownership are two of the main aspects of increasing work productivity.

The Distributed Ledger Technology for the Art Market

Author(s): Camilla Scarpellino / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

The art market seems exclusive to a limited circle of collectors due to information imbalances regarding artworks and their value. The Impact of SEO on News Websites. Understanding Audience Traffic and Engagement

Author(s): Georgeta Drulă / Language(s): English Issue: 47/2023

Search engine optimization (SEO) can enhance an article’s visibility on Google search, increase a news site’s search ranking, and drive audience traffic. Journalists are expected to possess SEO as a vital skill, even though each publication might have its unique approach. It is challenging to see what aspects of SEO are interesting for news sites and which aspects of it should be prioritized in content creation. This study explores the potential of SEO algorithms to increase traffic to news sites and analyze the relationship between Google’s algorithmic prioritization of content and audience engagement, as well as their impact on audience behavior towards specific content. This research shows how search-engine-optimized content drives significant audience traffic and presents the correlations between optimization solutions, audience traffic metrics, and audience engagement factors in sports news sites from Romania. The study focuses on sports news sites as content-specific sites and employs content optimization factors for Google as analysis criteria. In conclusion, this study indicates that optimizing content for search engines does not always result in significant traffic for sports news sites. The findings indicate that sports news sites prioritize off-page SEO and their profile of links over on-page or technical SEO.

Author(s): Miruna-Valeria CRĂIUȚ / Language(s): English Issue: 47/2023

Artificial Intelligence (AI), one of the most provoking topics nowadays, implies human-like intelligence. In the endeavor to make technology as human as possible, gender specific features attached to the machines become of foremost importance. As the existing literature in this domain is still in its infancy, the present paper aims to investigate the way a virtual assistant is perceived from the points of view of competence, trust, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and behavioral intention. A 2x2 online survey-based experimental design is applied. The stimulus used is fourfold: a female virtual assistant assigned with a female specific task, a male virtual assistant assigned with a female specific task, a female virtual assistant assigned with a male specific task, and a male virtual assistant assigned with a male specific task. The results indicate differences between groups with a general preference for the male virtual assistant assigned with a male specific task. Hence, gender role stereotypes are still prevalent, and they need to be further investigated.

Neurourbanism: from effective to affective computing in urban planning

Neurourbanism: from effective to affective computing in urban planning

Author(s): Andreea Robu-Movilă / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2025

This study stands interdisciplinarity at the intersection of computational sciences with neurosciences and urbanism that converge in the emerging field entitled neurourbanism. The generative ecosystem and ubiquitous computing in urbanism have reimagined urban planning that came with a range of implications, one of them being the fact that the design problem tends to be reduced to merely data manipulation and effective computing. This approach is simplifying in relation to many ineffable and incomputable dimensions that define the urban planning complexity and addressability. Consequently, affective computation has been identified as a direct manipulation mechanism of re-inserting the meaningful subjective human values and feedback into the generative designing processes as well as a tool for analyzing the implications that urban gestures modify or alter human perception and behavior. This paper nominates and analyses a series of studies that embrace neuroscience and affective computation in urban planning design, as well as author’s own experimental journey in this regard, intending to serve as an introduction to practitioners of this new field of study.

INVESTIGATING THE IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON THE ON-LINE EDUCATION PROCESS AT THE HIGHER EDUCATION LEVEL

Author(s): Monica Angela Bara / Language(s): English Issue: 23/2023

The period of study in the online environment can be a very demanding trial for students and masters, especially for those who are not familiar with computer technology. This is largely due to a complex of factors that come from the changes to which they are subjected, such as: leaving the parental home and settling into another living environment (living in dormitories or other forms of accommodation) but also settling with an unfamiliar and very different educational environment from what they were familiar with. Along with all the changes occurring in the family and social plan, the students had to adapt to the educational system made exclusively online. Higher education institutions in Romania use, as a method of knowledge transmission, traditional learning methods, namely they use face-to-face lecture-type courses in a lecture hall or practical and explanatory activities in a seminar/laboratory room.
