Sunt bibliotecile sustenabile în noua lume a științei deschise?

Sunt bibliotecile sustenabile în noua lume a științei deschise?

Author(s): Ivona Olariu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2022

The study regarding the behavior of researchers with respect to scientific literature analyses topics such as: the preference in obtaining electronic information, compared to the traditional way (printed), the preferred location when accessing electronic information (from within the university campus or from the outside), the type of preferred documents (book, scientific articles, conference proceedings etc), language preferences based on the user’s scientific profile. The respondents were invited to formulate requests of new services, for maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of the digital documentation process, for increasing efficacy of access, search and refining of the information. We also investigated the knowledge stock regarding open science, Creative Commons licenses, article processing charge (APC), Plan S, the European regulations regarding open data, and continued with researching the acceptance level of switching from the pay-and-read model to the pay-and-publish model. Due to the fact that libraries are info-documentary entities directly involved in sustaining and promoting the new informational environment and the new publishing methods, the ways through which these objectives can be met were also analyzed, together with the roles of library and information science specialists in a world where terms such as online, electronic, digital define scientific documentation. The results of the study showed significant differences in the level of knowledge regarding the investigated concepts, as well as the need for involving university libraries in providing a suitable education for the acceptance of the new publishing methods.

Amintiri digitale: abordări ale memelor românești asupra carantinei naționale

Amintiri digitale: abordări ale memelor românești asupra carantinei naționale

Author(s): Daniel Ungureanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2022

Shortly after the Romanian authorities had introduced restrictions amid the rise in COVID-19 cases, the meme pages progressively began to collect images that either brought to mind or made direct references to the lockdown and turn them into memes. This paper examines the production of memes through a multi-layered study of the most popular Romanian MPs from their peak, in early March, through the middle of May 2020. The interval includes the first days of the state of emergency (March 14−21), the night-time curfew (17), the national lockdown (24), the self-declaration for leaving the premises, and the movement restrictions for older people (March 30 – May 14), the Easter celebration and the Labor Day (April 12 / May 1). I use two major research strategies: (a) a quantitative analysis of the Romanian IMs and (b) case studies. Data have been collected from the digital archives of the following Facebook pages: Junimea, Omu Paiangăn, Ion Creangă, and 2Meme. By examining these, the paper seeks to clarify the process by which the exposure to the most popular form of anxiety relief and slacktivism, the IM, either created innocent digital memories of the lockdown or contributed to the spread of fear.

The Symbiotic Interaction between Industry and Academia in Tertiary Education: A Case Study on Internships

The Symbiotic Interaction between Industry and Academia in Tertiary Education: A Case Study on Internships

Author(s): Leonard Busuttil / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2022

The misalignment between the skills learned in tertiary education and the skills demanded by industry is well documented. One of the ways this misalignment can be reduced is through the introduction of an internship phase in degrees. This article identifies the perceived benefits and challenges that internship programmes offer academic staff in a tertiary educational facility. It also determines how feedback from the industry helps shape the curriculum of the degree. A qualitative case study is employed through interviews with various staff working at a tertiary education institution. The data generated is analysed using a thematic approach. The results show that internships not only place value on soft skills but also build a communication channel between the mentors that visit students whilst out on placement and the industry staff that oversee the students during the work-based phase. This mutually beneficial interaction between the industry and the education institution helps the mentors maintain familiarity with the latest technologies adopted in the industry and allows the industry to influence the curriculum of the degrees. Internships were shown to offer a means of advertising the skills gained in academia to the audience that would eventually employ the graduates.

As a result, a scale consisting of 21 items and three- factors was obtained. The internal consistency coefficient of the first factor, which is mastery of digital technology, was α = .925 using the Cronbach’s Alpha formula and .921 using the Guttman’s Split-half method; the internal consistency coefficient of the second factor, which is information management, was α = .880 and .884 according to Guttman’s Split-half method while the internal consistency coefficient of the third factor, which is active participation in the process, was α = .802 according to the Cronbach’s Alpha formula and .783 according to the Guttman’s Split-half method.

Personal Data Processing within a Smart Cemetery

Author(s): Silviu Dorin Şchiopu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 02/2022

Starting from the characteristics that an intelligent cemetery should have, this article aims to highlight possible personal data processing within it. The article presents the challenges faced by smart cemeteries starting from examples of data handling inherent to the functioning of a classic cemetery, to then analyze processing hypotheses that may intervene precisely as a result of the technological input in the administration of cemeteries. Last but not least, the relationship between the processing of personal data, on the one hand, and the respect due to the memory of the deceased, on the other, is of interest for the functioning of a smart cemetery. Although the cemeteries are rather spared by technology, it is already obvious that they are not completely immune to it. Any introduction of modern technologies in these spaces must be carefully considered. Personal data processing should contribute not only to the good administration of the cemetery but also to the respect owed to the memory of those who have passed away while also protecting the privacy of the living ones.

Онлайн-богослужения и крещение на кинокамеру: медиатизация религиозных практик среди старообрядцев

Author(s): Natalia S. Dushakova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 6/2022

The article discusses how Old Believers of different denominations perceive the transfer of religious life to the online environment and the usage of new technologies within traditional practices. The main sources are field research data obtained in 2020—2022 and online interviews with Old Believers from Russia and abroad (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Republic of Moldova). Considering the attitudes towards online worship services and the use of modern technical means and media technologies to perform religious practices during the pandemic, the article examines how Old Believers search for answers about the extent to which the transformation of religious practices under the influence of mediatization is acceptable. Priestly Old Believers are more likely to positively perceive new technologies that allow them to expand missionary activities. As for the priestless Old Believers, most of the religious leaders and ordinary believers speak out against the active mediatization of traditional practices, since they no longer comply with the apostolic rules, while allowing the use of technical innovations and broadcasting of online worship services for educational purposes. Nevertheless, the variability of answers and interpretations can be traced not only at the level of different Old Believer denominations, but also within communities, while the region of residence does not play an important role in decision-making.
