Digitaalne lugemine ja humanitaarharidus

Author(s): Maarja Ojamaa,Peeter Torop,Aleksandr Fadeev,Alexandra Milyakina,Merit Rickberg / Language(s): Estonian Issue: 8-9/2021

The paper focuses on the problems of reading and teaching literature in the context of digitalization and offers solutions for facilitating a meaningful dialogue with cultural heritage. Both divergence and convergence of media pose a challenge to the conventional ways of teaching literature based on source texts, as both processes entail diversification of media channels and dispersion of content across them. Reading in the digital age is characterized by an increasing multimodality, variability and fragmentariness of texts. The best practices of digital learning platforms allow synthesizing heterogeneous versions of the original into a coherent whole, which results in a new type of text characterized by expression in a (multimodal) language, boundedness and structuredness. The systematization of varied resources on a digital platform is supported by mythological, scientific and play-type modelling. The project Education on Screen developed by the Transmedia research group at the University of Tartu provides a methodological and technological framework for teaching literature under the circumstances of digitalization. The project offers a selection of open digital learning platforms aimed at secondary school students and a general audience. Each platform explores a key text of Estonian culture and their film adaptations against the background of universal cultural processes: Literature on Screen based on Old Barney or November by Andrus Kivirähk, History on Screen based on Leelo Tungal’s trilogy The Little Comrade, Identity on Screen based on A. H. Tammsaare’s Truth and Justice, and Estonian Film Classics based on Oskar Luts’ novel Spring and other texts. The pedagogical approach is informed by the semiotics of culture and transmedia research and implies that each artistic text exists in a series of possible versions in different discourses and media, which are rarely taken into account by school education. The digital learning platform supports the dialogue with cultural heritage through a variety of versions, while taking into account the vernacular skills and literacies acquired by students in the digital environment.

Employing alternative constructive methods of teaching English

Author(s): Viorica Ichim / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

This paper zeros in on the use of effective teaching and learning strategies. Traditional forms of teaching are changing rapidly with the advancement of technology. Technological innovations have begun to play a more important role in language teaching and learning, changing the presentation and perception of educational material. Thanks to these trends, the teaching process is becoming more focused on the real needs of students. There are many qualitative methods of English language teaching, but it is important to use the ones that will act as a stimulus to students’ lateral thinking development, encourage their creativity and improve their learning ability. The utilization of constructive methods of knowledge acquirement and sharing encourages students to collaborate, i.e., they study English with pleasure and maximum comfort, and make good progress. The article also mentions the role of the teacher in the educational process, which can be successful only if she/he appropriately understands the students’ learning capacity and interests and utilizes a multimedia approach to teaching.

The article deals with theoretical, practical, partly - historical aspects of scientific research of modern Ukrainian and foreign sociologists and social workers. The aim of the research is to analyze and summarize the following three key aspects: a) historical destructive moments in the development of Ukrainian/Soviet sociology; b) the orientation of the vector of postmodernist research of foreign scholars who had no censorship restrictions on their works; c) the main problematics of current Ukrainian sociological research. The latter, despite their deep materialistic tradition, find opportunities for new non-empirical approaches. In the article with the help of analysis of methodical sources, generalization of their content and presentation and interpretation of individual statistical data the authors substantiate: socio-economic, managerial and pedagogical reasons can systematically present the problematics of the current research of social workers. However, the postmodern aspect, still not "reworked" by the Ukrainian society, has not yet left its final mark on the social research. The international significance of the article lies in the interest of countries of transitional democracies and economies, previously under totalitarian influence, to acquire full emancipation and neo-liberalization concerning social problems and humane ways of solving them.

Exploring Students' Perception Concerning Educational Coaching: Premises for the Design and Implementation of an Online Coaching Platform in Academia

Exploring Students' Perception Concerning Educational Coaching: Premises for the Design and Implementation of an Online Coaching Platform in Academia

Author(s): Gabriel Gorghiu,Mihai Bizoi,Elena-Ancuţa Santi / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2022

Education is a field that evolves constantly in relation to the changes in the society and the needs of its beneficiaries, taking over and adapting functional models from other fields. The quality of education of today’s generations has a direct impact on the future, as tomorrow's adults need to have strong key competences, but also transversal competences needed in a dynamic and competitive labour market. Thus, the knowledge society implies opening up the education system to other social sectors, exploiting the paradigm of student-centred education, harnessing technology and virtual environments to create authentic learning and training contexts. Within this framework, educational coaching can be a means through which the individual potential of the learner can be discovered and optimised, with multiple benefits in personal, academic and professional terms. In order to achieve academic success, students need to know themselves, set short-, medium- and long-term goals and objectives, develop skills and competences in autonomous learning, communication, self-motivation, creative and critical thinking, emotion management etc. Through coaching activities, students can benefit from academic support and help in the process of self-discovery and personal development, optimising personal potential, collaborating and creating educational communities that share common goals and values. Placing the teacher in the position of a coach, this can contribute to the development of a multifaceted perspective related to the role of the teacher in the contemporary school, as a student’s partner in the process of his or her education. The present paper aims to explore students’ perceptions concerning the need for coaching activities in their academic life and to identify the students’ main needs and directions for optimizing actions and interventions.

Author(s): Kostiantyn Kysliuk,Liubov Bozhko / Language(s): Ukrainian Issue: 4/2022

The purpose of the paper is to definite the features of the military view of the current stage of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as one of the part of its contemporary «multiplex» vision. The research methodology combines quantitative (content analysis, statistical calculations) and qualitative (structural semiotic-semantic analysis) methods with culturological interpretation of the outcomes. Moreover, some personal observations of the authors on social platforms in Ukraine have been used. The scientific novelty consists in the theoretical reconstruction of the visual image of «war through the eyes of the military», which is markedly different from every day and journalistic assumptions about it. Conclusions. As a result of a quantitative content-analysis of the photo-content of the official Facebook-page of the Kholodny Yar 93rd separate mechanised brigade, the most popular among the 23 infantry brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the authors came to the conclusion that it forms a special point of view – «war through the eyes of the military». Paradoxically, the war does not look like a chain of combat operations with the massive use of tanks, artillery, and other weapons, the result of which is the destruction of the maximum number of enemies. It appears as a special type of human existence. This was the result of the intersection of the «peaceful» beliefs of the Operator, the professional media people who generated this content, and the real combat environment in which the shooting took place. The specified vision performs a motivational function for the active pro-Ukrainian community, which is the main audience of this page. Recognition of the peculiarities of other visions of the Russian-Ukrainian war current phase, for example, a purely journalistic one, can become a relevant direction of further research, an important component of the scientific formalisation of the modern view of it.

EUROPEAN DEFENCE TECHNOLOGY AND INDUSTRIAL BASE ̶ SUPPORTING ELEMENT OF COOPERATION UNDER EU COMMON SECURITY AND DEFENCE POLICY

EUROPEAN DEFENCE TECHNOLOGY AND INDUSTRIAL BASE ̶ SUPPORTING ELEMENT OF COOPERATION UNDER EU COMMON SECURITY AND DEFENCE POLICY

Author(s): Dragoş ILINCA / Language(s): English Issue: 83/2022

The development of the EU’s security and defence profile has been a constant over the last two decades and one of the most dynamic projects of European integration. In this sense, last few years have recorded significant progress, illustrated both by the conduct of a significant number of civilian and military operations in different geographical perimeters, as well as by the launch of cooperation initiatives in the field of defence capabilities and defence research. The reporting framework of these developments has also undergone major changes, integrated into the process of establishment the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB). After an initial stage of conceptual structuring, carried out between 2007-2013, the profile of this construct has matured rapidly in recent years, offering consistent prospects in terms of supporting EU security and defence objectives. To this end, practical projects on defence capabilities and research have been developed through EDTIB in line with the Common Security and Defence Policy agenda. An extremely important role is represented by the consolidation of the financial potential associated with EDTIB to support cooperation projects and initiatives. The use of EU budget resources, stimulated in the context of EDTIB, represents a strategic paradigm shift in which European cooperation has evolved. The results recorded so far indicate the viability of the approach, supported by Member States’ interest in deepening this trend, including by consolidating investment in defence and industrial purposes.

PRIMENA ELEKTRONSKIH PLATFORMI ZA REALIZACIJU ONLINE NASTAVE U DOBA PANDEMIJE COVID-19

Author(s): Miloš Dragosavac,Aleksa Jakica / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2022

Education is the most affected by the pandemic. Higher education institutions were forced to find adequate solutions in a short period of time so that the entire survival of the system would not be called into question. All have resorted to the use of certain electronic interactive platforms. The transition from the traditional way of working to the new online mode happened overnight, regardless of whether higher education institutions were ready for such changes. The subject of this paper is the analysis of the impact and importance of interactive platforms for the realization of online classes in the era of the pandemic caused by Covid-19 virus. Higher education institutions most often chose to use the following platforms: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Hangouts Meet. The goal of the work is to determine which of the mentioned platforms proved to be the most effective in the implementation of teaching activities. From the aspect of the social goal, the work should help teachers and students to look at the results of the research and, based on that, to make a decision about which online platform is the most suitable for teaching, while the quality of teaching will be maintained in their educational institution. Internal research was carried out from by professors of the Modern Business School in November 2020, where 138 students and 14 teachers participated. The platforms have enabled the teaching process to continue according to the plan and program, but there are still different aspects of use by teachers and students. Also, there are different aspects of use depending on which scientific field the faculties belong to. Each of the mentioned platforms is originally intended for the implementation of business meetings, not the implementation of the teaching process. The problem arises only when you start using the platforms when the good and bad sides are revealed.

UTJECAJ PANDEMIJE COVID-19 I ONLINE NASTAVE NA MOTIVACIJU AKADEMSKOG OSOBLJA I STUDENATA

Author(s): Valentina Štrbac,Lejla Tatarević – Ščetić / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 2/2022

Technological development is a feature of the 21st century and characterizes all spheres of modern life. The Covid-19 pandemic contributed to a faster digitalization process in higher education and left a big mark on it. Considering that technology has taken precedence in business and that it is impossible to achieve a competitive position on the market if it does not have a technological infrastructure, companies today most often achieve a competitive position through human resources. The fact is that only the human potential of companies cannot be copied on the market, and that employee motivation plays a major role in the company's operations and profitability. Through this paper, the impact of motivation on academic staff and students before the Covid-19 Pandemic and online lessons is presented and the focus is on motivation during the Pandemic and online teaching. The research includes two groups. The first group of academic staff includes associate professors, full-time professors, docents, senior assistants and assistants, while the second group includes full-time, part-time and distance learning students. The questionnaire consisted of nine questions, eight of nine are multiplechoice questions, and one open-ended question where respondents could express their opinions. The presented results can be useful to higher education institutions in creating business strategies and organization and implementation of the teaching process.

DIGITALNA KOMUNIKACIJA KAO NOVI STIL ŽIVOTA U ZATVORENOM SVIJETU

Author(s): Mario Bernadić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 2/2022

The corona virus pandemic proved to be a kind of catalyst in the sense of widening invisible social divisions, ultimately showing the modern world to be divided and essentially closed, despite the existence of numerous modern technologies, which until recently promised to connect the whole world in a single communication entity. In this way, the old social divisions were not overcome, but only further deepened. However, according to Pope Francis, this whole situation also becomes a sign of hope, if it leads us to an insight into the essence of our human nature, and if it provides us with extraordinary examples of human kindness. In this article, we begin from a consideration of different types of hope. Then we examine the extent to which modern technology itself can be a reason for human hope. Next, we look in particular at issues of knowledge and authority in the modern digitalized context, concluding with a consideration of the disadvantages and advantages of certain types of modern interpersonal communication.

Classification of Information

Author(s): Ioan-Alexandru DUMITRU / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

In order to counteract the growing number and sophisticated nature of cyber threats, having up-to-date information on vulnerabilities, attacks, threats, countermeasures and risks is crucial. Equally important are the data and information we hold and their importance to our organization. Information classification is a process in which organizations and states evaluate the data they hold and the level of protection they should provide. Organizations usually classify information in terms of confidentiality - that is, who is allowed access to view it.

Dependențele digitale și deficiența de somn

Author(s): Ioan Cristinel Teşu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 4-6/2022

Scientific papers show that quality sleep helps people live longer and with a higher quality of life, improves memory and creativity, reduces appetite and maintains optimal physical shape, protects against dementia, diabetes and cancer, strokes and heart attacks, anxiety, depression and a whole procession of mental conditions. The overall number of disorders that lack of sleep or poor quality sleep produces is over a hundred. The same researches, however, discovered that in the last hundred years, at the level of mankind, the period of sleep has been significantly reduced, especially in highly industrialized countries, which makes it a real epidemic, with serious effects on the physical and mental health of man. The deliberate choice of shortening the sleep period is therefore a true genetic engineering technique, the results of which are dramatic, an act of self-euthanasia.An essential cause of sleep deprivation or poor sleep quality is the excessive use of digital technology, and especially in the late hours of the series. „Digital blue”, the colour of screens, severely affects the secretion of melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone, through what scientists call „physiological lying”. Being the colour of the dawn, the blue of the screens „tricks” the pituitary gland, keeping the brain attentive and alert, even several hours after the cessation of their use. Using digital technology two hours before bedtime delays the peak time of melatonin secretion by another three hours, to the early hours of the morning. Against such conduct, some principles of sleep hygiene are recommended, for healthy and natural development, especially of children and young teenagers, the most vulnerable consumers.

The Case of Finnish Innovative Society: Shaping Legal Higher Education in Line with the Ideals of Social Solidarity

Author(s): Natalia Kohtamäki / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2022

In a dynamically changing World, the process of educating students atuniversities must also change. The changes implemented, however, should be well thought out. The events of the last two years related to the pandemic have caused a global revolution in teaching methods, whichhave had to be modified to transfer knowledge remotely. Such ad hocchanges are contributing to a change in how higher education is viewed, especially in the context of traditional fields of studies such as the law, which have so far been reluctant to embrace new trends in curriculum design and educational methods. Because of their natural attachment to national legal systems, these faculties have been slower than others toundergo internationalisation, i.e. student exchanges in the educational process (due to difficulties with subjects being recognised abroad). Foryears, the Nordic countries, and especially Finland, have been amongthe leading countries in the world with regard to shaping effective and innovative systems of education, including higher education.

Author(s): Luka Stanić,Marina Ajduković,Ines REZO BAGARIĆ / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 4/2022

Using apps like Tinder is becoming increasingly popular, especially among youth. Although there is an increase in Tinder use, only a few studies have addressed the motives for using Tinder and the problematic use of Tinder. This study aims to examine the frequency of use and motives for the use of Tinder among young people and to examine the predictors of problematic use of Tinder. The research was conducted online, and the following measuring instruments were used: Tinder Use Motivation Scale, Problematic Tinder Use Scale and Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale. Participants (N = 191; F = 75.3%; Mage = 23.14, SDage = 2.779) stated that their most common reason for using Tinder is boredom, looking for an intimate partner, looking for a sexual partner, and finally improving self-esteem. The results on this sample show that women spend more time on Tinder than men, and men are more likely to look for a sexual partner than women. Participants who express a higher level of need for relatedness frustration, use Tinder to find an intimate partner or raise self-confidence, access it more frequently and spend more time on Tinder, show a higher level of problematic use of Tinder.
