Author(s): Mariana Borukova,Yavor Asparuhov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2019

The continuous young basketball players’ sports preparation undergoes several stages, featuring their own specific methodological and organizational characteristics. Young players’ development is related to the dynamics of training influences and their planning in the course of sports preparation. Each stage of sports preparation requires a proper distribution of the number of hours aimed at development of motor qualities (general and special), of technical and tactical skills and habits, as well as play preparation (the play during training, control and calendar games). Their distribution is subjected to certain regularities such as age, stage of preparation, qualification of the players. The aim of the present study is to survey the opinion of sports specialists in the field of basketball about planning the training process and the proportion of the different parts of the preparation when working with young basketball players. The results were processed with analysis of frequencies. According to the general conclusions drawn, in the majority of the responses the coaches’ opinions coincide. There are certain dubieties and differences regarding their knowledge about the percentage distribution and proportion of the different parts of the sports preparation during each stage. However, we believe that every coach’s responses were based on the age group they are working with and this is the reason for the differences in the obtained results.

Author(s): Bojan Žikić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2016

The construction of masculinity in 40 to 50 year old men is examined on the example of playing recreational football at the Belgrade indoor soccer fields from the second half of the first decade of this century onwards. Playing football is seen as a particular form of male body use in organizing individual leisure time and its symbolical use in establishing notions of masculinity. The theoretical concept of hegemonic masculinity is problematized and it is shown that it does not reflect the empirically determined state in our surroundings.

Сезонная вариабельность возрастания антропометрических показателей у младших школьников Московского региона

Author(s): Nataliya Borisovna Pankova,Mikhail Yur’evich Karganov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 5/2019

Introduction. Monitoring biomedical studies indicate a pronounced seasonal variability in body weight and body mass index (BMI) in children and adolescents. However, there is no ambiguity in describing the dynamics of these changes. Several researchers have reported a predominant increase in BMI in winter, on the other hand, a number of studies have found an increase in BMI during summer holidays. The aim of this study is to assess the dynamics of seasonal changes in the following physical development indicators of primary schoolchildren in the Moscow region: body height and weight, BMI, and hand grip strength. Materials and Methods. 214 schoolchildren from the 1st to the 5th grades were annually examined in late September – early October and late March – early April. The study used such data as body height and weight, BMI, and hand grip strength. Results. The current research found a pronounced seasonal variability in primary schoolchildren’s body weight and BMI with an increase in the winter period. BMI variability is characteristic of both girls and boys, and does not depend on school entry age (between 7 and 8 years). At the same time, the number of obese children among first-graders matched the estimates reported by the WHO for the corresponding age and sex groups. The current study did not find the growth of obesity among schoolchildren until the end of the 5th grade. However, the research revealed an increase in the number of overweight children and a decrease in the number of children with normal BMI during the period between the 1st and the 5th grades. Seasonal variability in indicators of hand grip strength, as well as physical performance tests was not found. Conclusions. The data obtained allow to assume that the examined sample of children in terms of anthropometry can be considered as normal. Moreover, the existing negative trends in increasing the number of overweight children can be overcome.

София – Европейска столица на спорта: амбиции, реалности, възможности

Author(s): Ivan Sandanski / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2019

The emergent concept of strategic leveraging of sport-based initiatives and events aimed at creating social benefits for local communities enables a better understanding of the role and involvement of local authorities in modifying and fast-tracking existing or developing new local sport policies, strategies, programmes and projects. The article sets out to unpack the current efforts and approach by Sofia municipality to capitalize on prospective opportunities the initiative ‘Sofia – European Capital of Sport 2018’ can provide to generate any social legacies in the form of a range of benefits for both the community and various sport organisations and educational establishments operating in the capital city. To that end, a modified version of O’Brien & Chalip’s (2007a, 2007b) conceptual exploratory framework for social leveraging was employed. The study adopted an inductive methodology and data came from a combination of participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and content analysis of documentary evidence. Analysis reveals that the potential of ‘Sport 2018’ should be assessed not so much on any outcomes derived, but rather on to what extent those effects actually tell us why or how they occurred. In other words, what mechanisms and strategies undertaken around the initiative have been effective (or not), for whom, and in what specific context. However, the lack of systematic empirical research and any published evaluation reports with detail information on participants’ history and background, context of activities, capacity of engaged organisations, and embedded resources and mechanisms, seriously undermines the endeavours to drawing objective findings and making evaluations about the initiative’s leveraging for producing desired social outcomes. This speaks for a rather ad hoc than a strategic approach on the part of the actors involved. Implications for practice and future research on strategic leverage of sport initiatives are presented.
