ASPECTS OF COMMUNICATION IN SPORT

Author(s): Dan-Mihai Rohozneanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 19/2019

Communication is part of our daily existence: we speak, gesture, read, watch, being an element without which life cannot be conceived. It is the relationship that facilitates the mutual understanding and influence of the interlocutors through the permanent exchange of information, differently coded, but also the process by which information is transmitted in order to form representations. In this article we intend to present some aspects of the communication applied to the field of sport, here it is, in fact, about a dual competence: the one of communication and the one aimed at the knowledge of the sports environment, an important aspect, as it allows the understanding of the universe in which the communication takes place.

The problem of this work are forms of doping behaviour and the potential impact of different predictive factorson doping behaviour of handball players. Looking at the problem of this paper, its main goal was to determine thedifferential effects of selected social, demographic, health and sports predictors on doping-factors in handball. Thesample of respondents consisted of 150 handball players of the highest caliber competitions in BiH, 70 juniors and 80seniors. The sample of variables is divided into two sets, predictor variables and criterion variables, which were collectedby the questionnaire. The methods of analyses included descriptive statistical procedures, analysis of the differences andthe analysis of the relationships. The data analysis brought us to the following results and the conclusion. Playing sportsto same extent is a protective factor in the consumption of cigarettes and alcohol. Knowledge of supplementation withhandball players is very small, juniors claimed a daily diet is sufficient, while seniors find it necessary to add supplements.Ignorance about supplementation represents a high risk of potential doping behaviour. However, there are also limitingfactors in the use of supplementation such as financial issues. It is believed that there is doping among top handball players.

Coach is managing the training process with the aim of successful potential (so-called. «Talent»)developing (improvement) of athletes. The ability to improve relevant characteristics of athletes in certain sports(eg, basketball) is primarily related to the knowledge of all factors (ie. «Equation of success (performance )specification») that this (may) affect. In the center of coaches deliberation is (should be) an athlete, which impliesthe need for individualization of work, which is the opposite – of the work based on the principle of «Procrusteanbed». It is necessary, in addition to the multidisciplinary (embodied in the «equation of specification“), appliedas much as possible inter- and transdisciplinary approach (to know more about less). If the characteristics thatdescribe a good coach should be reduced to two, it would probably be: character (personality) and knowledge.Personality is referred to as primary, because it is less subject to change (the question of selection) thanknowledge - that need to be constantly improved. A necessary (but not sufficient) condition is related to theacquisition of formal education - embodied in an optimal contingent of relevant, interconnected information. The aim is to facilitate the transition to the critical (and criticizing ie, conditionally said: deductive-analytical)thinking instead of the more frequently used («craft» inductive-synthetic) approach «as I was taught.» All thisshould lead to a paradigm shift that it is enough for a coach to be „the best he can «, but that it is necessarythat he works: the best it can be. Feasibility of this is related to the constantly making effort of coachs in theirown development. Gaining awareness of his own ignorance (asking questions: why think about that?) would benecessary first, hardest and the most important step towards the acquisition of knowledge necessary to createcoaching philosophy and successful coach.

LANGUAGE OF SPORTS COMMENTARIES AND HOW TO EVALUATE IT

LANGUAGE OF SPORTS COMMENTARIES AND HOW TO EVALUATE IT

Author(s): Danica Pirsl,Tea Piršl,Esad Beširović / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

Aggression or sportsmanship can be learned and reinforced in many different ways. Multiple reasons, rather than a single one, influence such behaviors. Young athletes need positive, appropriate, and constructive role models to teach and reinforce sportsmanship and moral reasoning. The coach is perhaps the most significant person influencing the amount of aggressive or sportsmanlike behaviors displayed in the competitive sport context. It was reported that nine percent of hockey players (N=166) between the ages of 12 to 13 perceived their coaches as approving of hockey violence. The role of referees has also been idenfied as a significant factor affecting athletes' subsequent behaviors. The role of sports commentaries and the language used should also be observed in order to classify them into objective, judgmental or historical ones, and to attribute them their vital role in sportsmanship development.

It has long been shown that understanding of the impact of physical activity and exercise on the prevention and treatment of a large number of diseases is of great importance. Scienfic evidence confirms that prescribing of individually programmed physical activity by a professional person is of great importance in the therapy of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, obesity, heart and lung diseases such as chronic obstrucve pulmonary disease, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure followed by intermittent claudication, muscle problems, bone and joints (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome), as well as in the treatment of asthma, cancer, depression, and many mental diseases. For each of these diseases there is proven positive effect of exercise. Also, there is scienfic proof of impact of exercise for prevention, improvement of the prognosis of disease, its favorable outcome and influence on quality of life. In order to achieve preventive and therapeutic effect of exercise, we must define the type and amount (volume and intensity), assess possible contraindications, especially when it comes to high-intensity exercise in elderly population and certain diseases (eg. cardiovascular disease). We present overview of guidelines concerning use of adequate intensity, type and duration of exercise in most frequent diseases (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, musculoskeletal system diseases).

SHOULD FOOTBALL BE ABOLISHED? SPORT AND CONTEMPORARY NEW LEFT PHILOSOPHY

SHOULD FOOTBALL BE ABOLISHED? SPORT AND CONTEMPORARY NEW LEFT PHILOSOPHY

Author(s): Aleksandar Pavlović,Aleksandar Vuletić / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2014

This paper analyses the role of football in the theories of contemporary leftist philosophers andcultural critics Chantal Mouffe and Terry Eagleton. Mouffe (2005) takes an affirmative view of sport andfootball-fans culture, albeit as a metaphor to her demand for a passionate politics. Namely, she opposescurrent post-political belief in democratic consensus and advocates ‘agonistic’ political sphere whereparticipants express their political beliefs with energy, collective spirit and loyalty similar to the footballfans. In contrast, Terry Eagleton (2010) recently proclaimed football to be the friend of capitalism, and evendemanded the game to be abolished altogether, as it cements the existing political order and prevents anysocial change. It is argued that the aforementioned approaches announce the re-entrance of football and sportin general in the mainstream philosophical debates but, even more so, testify to the diversity and, to someextent, the confusion of the New Left nowadays.

The paper focuses on the knees, arms and back muscle extenders tested in isometric conditions byusing factor analyses which were applied in order to determine the control structure of various type muscleforce. The tests were done with the purpose of specifying the muscle contraction intensity in isometric stretchingconditions. The research was conducted on 150 examinees, students of the Academy of Criminalistic and PoliceStudies in Zemun – Belgrade. The data obtained from the factor analyses suggest that the control of muscleforce is not topologically conditioned and that it is possible to conduct a qualitative evaluation of muscleforce, as well as the comparison and discrimination of variables as opposed to monitored force parametersand individuals tested by the same method and equipment. The above mentioned is of great importance to theforce training methodology applied in SPE (Special Physical Education) and sports, in general. It is also ofthe utmost significance for the comprehension of the nerve-muscle mechanism adaptation during the muscleforce training.

Эмоционально-оценочные модели спортивного медиадискурса

Author(s): Gulnara Kamilevna Gimaletdinova,R. R. Kamalova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 5/2022

This article considers the phenomenon of emotional evaluation in sports media discourse, with a particular focus on its stylistic features in the English and Italian languages. The topic has received much attention recently due to the growing interest both in sports and in the ways emotional evaluation is expressed in different types of discourse. Our study is based on sports media texts published by 17 English newspapers and 11 Italian periodicals during the 2020 UEFA European Championship. Continuous sampling revealed 1444 cases of emotional evaluation expressed by means of epithets: 720 and 724 units in the English and Italian texts, respectively. A comparative survey of the language units selected as the ones expressing the subjective attitudes of the authors of the newspaper articles was conducted. The textual features of the newspaper articles were examined. The meaning of each unit and its most likely semantic interpretation were determined by the method of semantic analysis. The contextual use of the units was revealed by the method of contrastive stylistic analysis. The obtained results led to a number of generalizations. They demonstrated that epithets are widely used to express emotional evaluations and thus effectively influence interlocutors in sports media discourse. Furthermore, the comparative analysis showed that English and Italian linguistic cultures are generally similar in terms of expressing subjective evaluations, both positive and negative, which could indicate the universality of sports events coverage and commentary. Finally, we found that the models of emotional evaluation typical of sports discourse that are based on the use of epithets can be considered universal categories employed to describe other stylistic devices and tropes as well.

Author(s): Agybay ABDRASSILOV,Yerkenazym Orynbassarova,Manuela Tvaronavičienė / Language(s): English Issue: 3(67)/2023

The development of a sports cluster is an important social task, the solution of which contributes not only to the balance of the local economy, but also to the involvement of the most progressive segments of the population in entrepreneurial activities, tending to a proper lifestyle and active leisure. The growth of entrepreneurial activity in this segment of the economy is determined by many factors, including the state policy for the development of sports and tourism. As a global industry, sport is a potentially significant contributor to climate change, both through carbon emissions and through its impact on sustainable development practices. The purpose of the study is to explore environmental factors influencing the development of the sports cluster in the Kazakhstan and further prospects for its development using forecasting and modelling methods. The environmental policy of the sports movement must be carried out within the broader framework of sustainable development. The environmental work of the sports movement is currently focused on the protection and management of resources and the natural environment in order to improve social and economic conditions. All this should be aimed at education on environmental issues and specific measures for its protection.
