The requirements of the digital society for the acquisition of digital competencies, which are essential for the personal and professional realization of the citizens, are laid down in the curriculum of the LIS education at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Curriculum review shows that bachelor and master programs meet the European Framework DigComp 2.0, IFLA requirements for library education and employers‘ high-demandneeds. The variety of disciplines that form fundamental knowledge and skills in students follows the logic of library and information science, but also the “pulse” of today‘s digital society.

The paper presents a view on the problem of the hypothetical Thracian version of the Gospel, the so called Biblia Bessica. Claims were made in the last decade by independent Bulgarian researchers, that they discovered a manuscript of the Biblia Bessica. These claims were rejected by members of the Scholarly community. The author explores the media coverage and the Internet discussions that followed the announcement of the supposed discovery.

The “Restoration Center” department in the National Library is responsible for the preservation and exhibition of the objects in the collections of the following departments and not only: Bulgarian Historical Archives, Oriental Collections, Manuscripts and Old Printed Books. These collections include cartographic maps, graphics and drawings, manuscripts, printed books, photographs, Oriental archival documents, photographic albums, documents on parchment, and many others.Following world-wide trends, the conservation professionals are seeking to provide the best proposals for preventive conservation care, minimal restorative intervention, and proposals for appropriate archival preservation.The restoration intervention in the department has its own history and characteristic trends, changing over the years. This is most evident in the restoration of book bindings. In the past the accepted approach has been to rebind and replace the cover, however today the restorers strive not to alter the original appearance and authenticity of a book body.

The article presents the creation of laws, regulations and other normative documents related to the legal deposit system in Bulgaria and their importance for the preservation of the national literary heritage. The stages in the creation, development and changes in the legal deposit legislation of printed and other works in Bulgaria are outlined from the adoption of the first law in 1897 to present days. An overview and analysis of the current legislation and normative documents are made. Traced and analyzed are the changes, problems and trends related to legal deposit.The legal deposit legislation of 1897–2017 ensures the preservation of the national cultural heritage, provides universal access to the national literature and secures that published testimonies of human memory, creativity and discoveries will be preserved and accessible to future generations.

The article reviews the emergence, development and affirmation of the current national bibliography as a multifunctional information system. Issues related to the interaction between legal deposit legislation and the scope of the current national bibliography are discussed. The principles of document selection are justified. The paths through which their formal and semantic processing has undergone, their differentiated allocation to special departments, or individual bibliographic bulletins, and the development of various indexes are specified. The changes occurring in the optimal model of the current national bibliography in the developing information environment are traced.
