Неортодоксалният ислям в българските земи. Минало и съвременност

Author(s): Nevena Gramatikova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian

This book is among the few deep analysis on Islam in the Bulgarian lands, written by a Bulgarian author. The analysis covers the origin of Islam in the Bulgarian lands, it's spreading there and its relation to cult objects according to the Life of Demir Baba and Otman Baba. Studies, like this one, are very important for the polemic and uncertain times we live in, because they can help us understand better the culture of part of the population of our countries. We are witnessing conflicts on ethnic basis, caused by misunderstanding or disinformation on processes that were being formed for centuries. Understanding this culture is important not only to ourselves but to the person standing next to us, for respecting each other, despite of the religious differences. In this book the author made serious attempt to give an answer to a polemic academic topics related to the Alevi(Alevism), like their origin, their destiny and the parallels of their historical and cultural memory in the present.

Cubicularius, követ, áruló (?). A marosjárai Bálintffyak a 17. század közepéig

Author(s): Dáné Veronka / Language(s): Hungarian Publication Year: 0

The paper continues the inquiries concerning the cubicularii, started by Zsolt Trócsányi – expert researcher of the central government of the Principality of Transylvania –, through the presentation of the lives and careers a family which held the office almost in a hereditary manner: the Bálintffys of Marosjára. Although Trócsányi knew certain members of the Bálintffy family (landowners in Marosjára, Torda County) – a father and two sons –, but since they used different (family) names, he did not manage to connect them. Owing to the investigations of the author, it was revealed that the family’s rise was launched by Bálint/Valentinus litteratus from Marosvásárhely, who came from a commoner family– called Kötélverő/Köteles, later Vásárhelyi – which had been granted nobility. First, he became a notary at the Minor Chancery (cancellaria minor), then, at the peak of his career, he served as the praefectus of the treasury. The second generation is represented by his two sons, Kristóf and István, who converted to Catholicism. They both became cubicularii, but, despite possessing the same title, they fulfilled absolutely different roles. István – who had been a student at Vienna, then died at a young age – dealt with several of the Prince’s confidential affairs, while Kristóf can be considered as a true expert of finance: the peak of his career was the office of generalis perceptor. Their favourable marriages also helped them become established in the central government: Bálint/Valentinus litteratus and Kristóf both married within the “guild”, marrying the sisters of his colleagues from renowned, wealthy burgher families of Kolozsvár (Balásfi, Bornemisza), becoming related to the Lisbona family of mining contractors. Thus, they came to possess not only the land in Marosjára but also real estate and capital in Kolozsvár and Gyulafehérvár. The career of this highly promising dynasty of state officials was broken by Prince György Rákóczi I, who started proceedings against Kristóf – confidential adherent of Gábor Bethlen – under the pretext of “misappropriation”. Out of the three sons of Kristóf (deceased during the proceedings), two were pushed out not only of office but of the country as well. The case of the Bálintffys does not only exemplify the origins and career of people in finance management, it also clearly points out that the term cubicularius indicated different offices. The clarification and precise definition of its range of functions require further research.

A szigeti Bartos család: társadalmi felemelkedés az erdélyi fejedelmi hivatalnokság alsó rétegében a 16–17. század fordulóján

Author(s): László Glück / Language(s): Hungarian Publication Year: 0

The service of the king played a particular role in upward social mobility in premodern Hungary, as the monarchs – thanks to the specific sovereign rights – had opportunities not comparable with that of the other members of society to reward subjects dear to them. Many commoners also managed to acquire nobility or seigneurial rights in the 15th and 16th centuries, thanks to their erudition (literacy and proficiency in Latin) which made it possible for them to be employed in the monarchic administration. The government of the Principality of Transylvania, a new state that emerged in the eastern part of Hungary in the mid-16th century, played a similar role. The present study gives the history of a family as an example of this. The father lived in Sziget, a small town in the north-eastern region of Hungary, and his profession possibly was that of a saddler. His sons were given an education. Péter started working at the Princely Treasury as an auditor (rationista), György supposedly served in the Princely Chancellery as a scribe, and István had been the private secretary to lords, and then worked as a scribe of the Princely Chancellery. The father already had been ennobled by a charter (this was usual among craftsmen from the end of the 16th century), and his sons were granted exemption for their plots in Sziget by the Prince. After the untimely death of the two elderly brothers, only István remained alive; he was awarded with estate donations as well by the Prince, and then entered into a marriage with a noblewoman from a well-to-do seigneurial family, inheriting landed properties by his marriage as well. After all, he used the cash from his father’s heritage or his court service to purchase the landed properties from different landlords being in difficulties. He attached great importance to good farming on the acquired landed properties. Old seigneurial families immediately accepted him, the homo novus, as one of them: this is clearly shown by the marriages of István and his children.

Fejedelmi aranybeváltók a Báthory-korszakban.

Author(s): Petra Mátyás-Rausch / Language(s): Hungarian Publication Year: 0

The study examines the mining administration, especially the gold changing in the area under family Báthory. In these times the gold changing belonged to the mining chamber of Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) and the mining chamber of Nagyszeben (Sibiu), besides the miners could exchange by the gold-changer their gold and silver, who works at the princely treasury. From the gold-changers Gergely Gyarmati had the most successful career; he was the leader of treasury between 1590 and 1593. After his fall the prince, Zsigmond Báthory, terminated this position, and instructed the prefect of mining chamber in Kolozsvár to exchange exploited gold and silver.

In first place, it pays attention to the theoretical lexicography and it applies its rules, mainly from the area of lexicographical criticism, to the corpus of Spanish Gypsy dictionaries. The main part of the book presents a critical study of repertoires of lexical units of this mixed dialect, starting from the 16th and 18th centuries manuscripts, 19th century amateur lexicographers’ dictionaries and ending up with 20th century ones. Final chapters look closely to Spanish Gypsy vocabularies and lists of lexical units present in publications about flamenco and Spanish Gypsies in general.

From Rhetoric to Aesthetics: Wit and Esprit in the English and French Theoretical Writings of the Late Seventeenth and Early Eighteenth Centuries

Author(s): Klára Bicanová / Language(s): English

The thesis deals primarily with the term wit and its modern and historical usage in literary and aesthetic theories. Further, it concerned with the literary and aesthetic implications of the terms wit and esprit as they were theorized in critical writings of several authors of the early modern England and France. The thesis has two primary goals. The first goal is to re-assess the English concept of wit, nowadays regarded as an out-dated device of past poetic systems, and to present it as vital and useful part of the contemporary discourse. The second goal is to provide comparative reading of early modern English and French theoretical texts dealing with wit and esprit, respectively. Presenting ideas on the English term wit as employed in the theoretical writings in the light of its French equivalent esprit, I wish to demonstrate a gradual development of the terms from rhetoric to aesthetic.

Функционирование слов категории состояния в древнерусских памятниках XII–XVII вв.

Author(s): Oksana Ushakova / Language(s): Russian

The monograph deals with the issue of the categories of state (predicative adverbs), which is a debatable point of contemporary Russian linguistics. In the center of interest are therefore indeclinable units that engage only in the predicate role of single-predicate sentences and express the state generally. The monograph completely describes how these words are represented and how they function in Old Russian texts from 12th to 17th century. The analysed units are viewed in lexical, derivative, morphological and syntactic terms. The complex research of such word is carried out in the confrontational diachronic and synchronic aspects of using data from Czech language.

Загадка одного портрета: Мария Владимировна Старицкая или Мария (Лупу) Радзивилл?

Author(s): Lilia Zabolotnaia / Language(s): Russian Publication Year: 0

The main objective of this study is an attempt to identify one of the portraits of Maria (Lupu) Radziwill, lost more than 300 years ago. The original of the portrait was found by the author in 2019, in the Rosenborg Castle (Copenhagen, Denmark). A copy of the portrait is kept in the State Historical Museum (Moscow). Both in Rosenborg and in Moscow, until now, the portrait was considered a portrait of Maria Vladimirovna Staritskaya. The author, based on comparative and retrospective methods of historical research, in terms of chronology and typology compared already known, attributed images and systematized the data for constructing the arguments. The basis for the refutation of the existing attribution of the portrait was the mismatch of the costume of the depicted lady with the Russian style, era, etc. According to the author of the study, it is the costume of the portrait’s heroine that irrefutably indicates that this is not Maria Vladimirovna Staritskaya, but Maria (Lupu) Radziwill, since it reflects her national origin.

My niewidzialni. Historia Polaków w Niemczech

Author(s): Peter Oliver Loew / Language(s): Polish

The author presents the history of Poles in Germany: it deals with the history of Polish immigration, as well as the historical Polish minorities in Germany, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Poles have been a part of German society for centuries, but only after the partitions did they become a large minority in the Kingdom of Prussia. Soon, socio-economic changes triggered migration processes, as a result of which, between the beginning of the 19th century and sometimes today, eight million Poles moved to areas where the majority of the German-speaking population was. Today, Poles - the second largest minority group in Germany - form a very diverse community. Among them there are displaced persons and late displaced persons who do not admit to their Polish identity, and yet speak Polish at home - often in Silesian dialect. There are also displaced persons who want to integrate with German society as quickly as possible and those who try to remain Poles. There are people who emigrated for economic or political reasons - some of them have Polish citizenship, and some German. Hundreds of thousands of Polish seasonal workers come to Germany every year. At the same time, there are descendants of people who were thrown to Germany by the Second World War, as well as economic migrants from the pre-war period. Peter Oliver Loew attempted to sketch the overall picture, despite the obvious methodological problems related both to the ambiguity of the terms Germans and Poles, and to the concept of minorities.

Restoration” is one of the 11 professional sections of ABR which, since its establishment, has managed to bring together specialists in the field of books and cultural heritage, from various institutions with a role in the process of protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, initiating and carrying out, during all this period, training and professional development programs, conferences, symposia, debates, workshops.Regardless of the names under which it has operated during the 30 years of activity “Conservation. Preservation. Restoration”; ”Old book. Conservation. Restoration. Digitization”; The section “Old book. Conservation. Restoration”, through the topics and issues debated in the workshops, scientific sessions, had significant contributions to raise awareness of the role of mobile cultural heritage in preserving national and local cultural identity and social cohesion.Annually, in two sessions, both in the spring and in the itinerant ABR Conferences, with massive participation and active involvement of book lovers, specialists in the field of conservation of cultural heritage, cultural and scientific personalities, central and local authorities , representatives of cultural and educational institutions, were presented numerous and important communications that touched on current issues, focusing on legislation to impose the best possible protection of the country's movable and immovable cultural heritage, as well as on the vulnerable aspects of libraries, respectively on finding alternative methods to remedy them. Of particular importance were the book launches that took place during the events of the section, and I would like to mention the volume Biblioteca Batthyaneum la sfârşitul secolului al XIX-lea. Cartea – catalog a lui Varjú Elemér, adnotată şi comentată (Biblioteca Batthyaneum at the end of the 19th century. Long awaited by our guild, it is, along with other notable publications published by ABR, on the main axis of information and documentation sciences, being a landmark for issues related to the history of books and printing, preservation and restoration of documents in libraries from Romania, models of good practices, old and rare book funds, documentary archives, existing publications in the monastic patrimony, the patrimony of the ecclesiastical libraries and the importance of annotations and notes on the old book in deciphering the local history. Also, current topics are treated on the issue of old book procurement, in accordance with the legislation on public procurement and European directives in the field, the status of documents and special collections, etc.The ontology and the complex issues addressed in the volume emphasize the role of the library in the process of research, conservation and enhancement of the national cultural heritage and the need to harmonize the main and secondary legislation applicable in libraries, in all its components. The theme of the volume leaves open the way to both theoretical and practical approaches, current and in resonance with technological developments and changes in the social and cultural paradigm in relation to the patrimonial potential held. Reading this volume, we will discover, in rigorously scientifically documented articles, information and valuable elements on conceptual, theoretical and practical aspects of the field, adapted to the receptive requirements of the specialized reader.Ph.D c Petruța-Mihaela VOICUPresident of the University and Specialized Libraries DivisionVice President of ABRHead of References Service"Carol I" Central University Library

Die böhmische Leibeigenschaft in Rechtsdokumenten (1648-1742)

Author(s): Ivo Cerman,Michal Morawetz / Language(s): German

After the Thirty Years’ War the peasants in Bohemia found themselves living in a harder version of subject status (Untertänigkeit) which was known as ‘Bohemian serfdom’ (böhmische Leibeigenschaft). The present edition of German and Czech legal documents reconstructs the formative phase of this legal institution up to the Franco-Bavarian occupation of the Bohemian lands, when Maria Theresia was compelled to discuss the abolition of subject status and serfdom. It was during this debate that ministers in Vienna commissioned a legal opinion entitled Deductio ratione servitutis bohemicae et moravicae which describes the legal competencies and disabilities of serfs in full. In so doing this document, which is edited here, closes the formative phase of Bohemian serfdom. The edition, which is inspired by US works on slavery, includes also documents on the the status of newly born kids. It also focuses on natural law arguments.

The publication follows the traditional rural house from the point of view of building materials, house arrangement, echoes of styles as well as timbered and sacral buildings. It features an interdisciplinary approach that includes methodological procedures applied by architects, preservationists, historians and ethnologists. Even though the rural house was a theme of synthetic works, one did not succeed in explaining all the genetic and typological issues; moreover, the researchers’ interpretations differ on a lot of phenomena. Historical research of constructions and ethnologic research, applying new methods of dating recently, as well as plan documentation discovered in archive funds offer new knowledge that corrects the hitherto findings based on the application of traditional macroscopic methods.

Tarih Alanında Seçme Yazılar - III
