Hrvatska srednjovjekovna književno-jezična tradicija i Divkovićevi stihovi

Author(s): Amir Kapetanović / Language(s): Croatian Publication Year: 0

In this article, we deal with the poetry of M. Divković, which was published in Nauk krstjanski (1616). Divković’s poetry is closely related to the Croatian mediaeval literary and linguistic heritage, because Divković adapted many texts from the earlier Croatian literature into the Bosnian enviroment: it is possible to fi nd exact or approximate sources. Divković’s sources of mediaeval texts originated from the South-Čakavian area (from Zadar to Split), which was literary less active than the North-Čakavian area in the Middle Age. The Cyrillic orthography in Divković’s poetry was heavily infl uenced by the Latin script, and the language of mediaeval Čakavian texts was adapted to the Štokavian literary language by Divković.

Fonološka prilagodba vlastitih imena u Divkovićevim djelima Sto čudesa i Nauk krstjanski za narod slovinski

Author(s): Ivana Lovrić Jović / Language(s): Croatian Publication Year: 0

Proper names are among oldest language monuments. Divković’s work represents a suitable corpus for onomastic research since, being a part of Franciscan production, it had its share in the process of standardization of the Croatian language to the Stokavian base. Since the texts of the Divković’s work are mostly translational and compilatory, proper names – mostly hagionym – are elaborated from the language –in- contact point of view, while the foreign name, that is a Croatianized name, is called a model, i.e. a replica. The analysis results demonstrate limitation in the adjustment of foreign names while an advance towards writer’s freedom diverts to the possibility of adopting Italian reading in phonological adjustment of proper names.

Utjecaj fra Matije Divkovića na homiletičku prepoznatljivost bosanskih franjevaca

Author(s): Ivo Marković / Language(s): Croatian Publication Year: 0

Pisani i tiskani izvori o Bosni Srebrenoj u vrijeme Matije Divkovića 1563-1631.

Author(s): Andrija Zirdum / Language(s): Croatian Publication Year: 0

Krzyż i karabela. Polityka zagraniczna Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów w ocenie dyplomacji papieskiej w latach 1623–1635

Author(s): Paweł Duda / Language(s): Polish

This work presents issues relating to a dramatic fragment of European history and a tumultuous period in the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the light of the accounts and assessments of papal nuncios residing at European courts. The author’s primary aim was to answer the question: how did the Holy See during the first phase of the pontificate of Urban VIII assess the foreign policy of the Commonwealth and to what extent did it try to influence it? In his work, main directions of Polish policy during this period and the papacy’s attitude toward them were analyzed. The Roman Curia’s stance on the Commonwealth’s relations with neighbors, including Turkey, Moscow, and Sweden, was discussed. The papacy’s stand on the issues relating to Poland’s potential participation in the Thirty Years’ War and on Vasa-Habsburg military plans was examined. Moreover, Rome’s attitude toward issues which pertained to domestic policy, albeit they determined the position of the Polish-Lithuanian state in Europe of that time – the 1632 election and Władysław IV Vasa’s marital plans – was presented. The above-mentioned issues were the subject of mutual diplomatic relations, which usually took the form of correspondence of nuncios to Poland and other European courts with the Holy See’s Secretariat of State. This work is part of an important trend in Polish historical research in which foreign source materials have been used to explore the history of the Commonwealth. The main source material for this study is the correspondence of apostolic nuncios gathered in Archivio Segreto Vaticano and Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana. The correspondence of papal nuncios to Poland between 1623 and 1635 – Giovanni Battista Lancellotti, Antonio Santacroce, Honoratio Visconti, and partially Mario Filonardi, as well as letters from Secretary of State Francesco Barberini to these nuncios are of particular importance to the topic of research. Moreover, telegrams from papal diplomats residing at the most important courts of modern Europe: in Vienna, Paris, and Madrid, concerning the international situation of the Commonwealth, are valuable supplementary material.Offering an insight into analyses and actions undertaken by papal diplomacy toward the Commonwealth, the book simultaneously shows the Polish-Lithuanian state as a significant part of European political reality.

Die Krise Des Europäischen Geistes

Author(s): Paul Hazard / Language(s): German

Paul Hazard's intellectual history offers an unforgettable account of the birth of the modern European mind in all its dynamic, inquiring, and uncertain glory. Beginning his story in the latter half of the seventeenth century, while also looking back to the Renaissance and forward to the future, Hazard traces the process by which new developments in the sciences, arts, philosophy, and philology came to undermine the stable foundations of the classical world, with its commitment to tradition, stability, proportion, and settled usage. Hazard discerned at the end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth centuries a crisis within the European mind, a moment of profound uncertainty, une zone uncertaine, malaisée. Out of that crisis emerged a new understanding of people and nature, of government, of religion in society which, as he saw it, prepared the way for the French Revolution. At that moment emerged a mentalité discernibly enlightened and modern, one with which Hazard and his generation of liberal French intellectuals could still identify.

Цивілізаційний крах Переяславського проекту (Україна і Московія: історія співіснування та ворожнечі)

Author(s): Mykola Gorelov,Oleksandr Motsia,Oleg Rafalskiy / Language(s): Ukrainian

In 2014, 360 years have passed since the conclusion of the agreement between the tsarists and Cossack governments in Pereyaslav (now Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky), which was a turning point in subsequent historical processes that have long been observed in the mutual relations of the two peoples. This event also influenced the geopolitical situations both in the Eastern European region and throughout Europe. Today, it is possible to build different models for options, if there were the further fate of Ukraine and Russia in the event of changes in the policy of Bogdan Khmelnitsky and his successors after the mentioned action. But history does not know the conditional way, and everything happened as it happened. The peripetias in the relations that began in 1654, were reflected in the events, recently quite tragic, at the beginning of the XXI century.

Nicolaus Zangius: hudebník přelomu 16. a 17. století: Na stopě neznámému

Author(s): Vladimír Maňas / Language(s): Czech

Nicolaus Zangius (ca. 1568–1617) was a musician with a rather restless character, always seeking a more ideal patron. Zangius worked as a Kapellmeister in Iburg, Danzig, at the Liechtenstein court in Moravia and finally in Berlin; between 1602 and 1612 he also held a position as a servant at the Emperor's court in Prague. The book reflects upon Zangius' career and his social status in early seventeenth century society. It includes discussion of his printed works (and some of which remain unpublished). The book deals in detail with the life of Charles of Liechtenstein (1569–1627), one of the wealthiest Moravian aristocrats and the governor of Moravia in the years 1604 to 1607. In his court, he established a music ensemble and appointed Nicolaus Zangius as its head.

This book of (scholarly) essays reflects on the natives mythologies of Poles – on traces left in the collective memory of mythologies of the nobility, the intelligentsia, and plebeian mythologies. The author addresses the issue of mythology’s perseverance, trying to see if old mythologies – like those of the nobility and the intelligentsia, Sarmatian or Romantic, nationalist or revolutionary ones – are still present in our lives. He also ponders the role played by mythologies in the shaping of society’s relationship with the natural environment.

The House of Vasa and The House of Austria. Correspondence from the Years 1587 to 1668. Part II: The Times of Władysław IV, 1632–1648

Author(s): / Language(s): English

The published correspondence reveals the dimension of cooperation and the community of dynastic, political, cultural, and religious interests between the House of Vasa and the House of Austria. It provides the basis for analyzing mutual relations in terms of affinity, emulation, and rivalry. Editing the letters creates a kind of catalog showcasing the role and identity of the Vasas in the extensive European cultural and political context and can serve as a starting point for further studies. One of the most important instruments through which we can observe and analyze these processes is the letters exchanged between members of both dynasties. Royal letters with signatures, seals, and their content are a lasting testament to the presence and role of Poland in European culture in the early modern era.
