Author(s): Sofia Karakehayova,Bilyana Kaloferova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

Health education is aimed at developing skills to create or maintain a healthy lifestyle, voluntary adaptation to health-friendly behavior. It is seen as a process of lifelong learning for people how to live, to maintain and improve their own and other people’s health. It is widely believed that in order to achieve the objectives of health education, approaches, forms and methods of pedagogical interaction should be appropriate and effective. According to a number of authors, effective health education repeats the natural processes through which children observe certain norms of behavior. Emphasis is placed on the discovery strategy for orientation of the child in a healthy and social environment, realized through a variety of variational solutions, based on the specifics of the research march. In a series of workshops that have the status of complementary forms of pedagogical interaction, which define goals, bring out basic content units - a combination of knowledge, skills and relationships that reflect key competences as a result of guiding the 6-7-year-old child into a healthy and social environment.

Author(s): Kristina Stoyanova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 7/2018

Communication in medicine and healthcare has become a central topic of discussion, and the impact of doctors‘ communication competences on patients‘ clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction has been widely acknowledged. EU educational policies on the verbal communication of future doctors are discussed as a system of educational objectives and tools, which have an influence on language and communication skills training. Enhancing the verbal communication skills of students in medicine has a significant impact on their future professional competencies and careers. On global and European level a number of consensus statements, frameworks and models of the content of communication training for doctors have been developed. The analysis of these consensus statements reveals their major characteristics and to what extent developing verbal skills is considered essential for students’ communication skills. The conclusion of the importance of a consensus on enhancing the verbal skills of doctors, as well as on the content of their verbal communication skills training is made.

WHAT KIND OF EPISTEMOLOGY OF HEALTH-CARE? A NOTE ABOUT ÉMILE KENMOGNE’S MALADIES PARANORMALES ET RATIONALITÉS. CONTRIBUTIONS À L’ÉPISTÉMOLOGIE DE LA SANTÉ

Author(s): Ana Bazac / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2018

The paper is a critical review of the announced book, and its core is given by the analysis of the arguments and unfolded logic of the book put face to face with their effects. In this way, both the book and the review are parts of the necessary dialogue concerning the legitimacy of the irrational. The critical stance does not reproduce at all the mechanical view of the human rationality as mere cold logic, but is opposed to a “critique of the instrumental character of reason from the standpoint of faith”. From an epistemological point of view, this critique of extreme positions (the mechanical rationality and faith) draws attention to the necessity of a permanent awareness of researchers and common people, too, concerning the consequences of their theories.

Mind and Body Transformations through Visual Art

Author(s): Ann Millett-Gallant / Language(s): English Issue: 01/2018

This essay narrates my experiences as a congenital amputee and survivor of traumatic brain injury (TBI) through analysis of artwork. With art history and art therapy, I have cathartically mediated conscious and corporeal loss. I will analyse key visual examples to illustrate my disability, trauma and mind/body transformations. The article maintains that trauma is not an isolated event, but a conscious, collective and dynamic phenomenon.

Borderline Knowing: (Re)Valuing Borderline Personality Disorder as (Counter) Knowledge

Author(s): Sarah Redikopp / Language(s): English Issue: 01/2018

This article explores Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) as an epistemic standpoint defiant of dominant Western knowledge frameworks, which are (supposedly) rational, objective and linear. I engage with feminist, critical psychiatry and Mad critiques of BPD as a medicalization of trauma and ameliorate these critiques by engaging BPD as both a psychiatric diagnosis and as a (non-pathological) response to traumatic experiences. I conceptualize the ‘borderline standpoint’ as a subversive epistemology and examine the capacity of queer-crip temporalities to meaningfully engage with the borderline standpoint, arguing that a framework of queer time is useful insofar as trauma (and borderline knowing) are necessarily nonlinear. Ultimately, I employ concepts of queer-crip time, including the works of Alison Kafer and Elizabeth Freeman, to open new avenues of engagement with the ‘ugly’ affect of borderline and to embark on a maddening epistemological project.

Invincible yet Vulnerable: Race, Disability and Trauma in South Africa after Oscar Pistorius

Invincible yet Vulnerable: Race, Disability and Trauma in South Africa after Oscar Pistorius

Author(s): Nontsasa Nako / Language(s): English Issue: 01/2018

When the global sporting icon, Paralympian and Olympian Oscar Pistorius was accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on the morning of Valentine’s Day in 2013, one of his many defences was, simply put, that his disability made him do it. An expert witness for the defence made the connection between disability and violence that suggested that disabled people are particularly prone to ‘over-react’ as it were because they feel especially vulnerable. This defence provides the link between the two extremes claimed by Pistorius’s public persona, that of invincibility and vulnerability – extreme physical ability epitomized by sterling sporting prowess and fear of victimisation because of his physical limitation. The formula proposed by this defence is that extreme vulnerability results in extreme aggression. Here I want to analyse what this claim suggests about prevailing social attitudes toward disability and disabled people, particularly in post-apartheid South Africa – or more accurately in post-TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) South Africa. In this article I propose that the corrosive legacy of TRC created rich ground for white victimization and popularised the medical model of trauma.

Author(s): Amina Dizdar / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 38/2018

The author took up the problem of disabled femininity in relation to the Revealed Truth and the God’s Law, from which he made a starting point to analyze the causes of contemporary social inequalities. The author’s interpretation of selected biblical themes is one of the possible and fully legitimate from a personalistic perspective. The author presents a rather bold, provocative position that the so-called “male perspective of the world”, full of illegitimate inequalities in the light of God’s plan, is a consequence of imposed and eternal interpretations of the Scriptures, which are stereotypical in understanding and shaping relationships between people. These stereotypes lead to social divisions. The article written by the pedagogue carries a message concerning the education of young generations, shaping awareness – in the spirit of tolerance, justice, crossing the divisions resulting from, for example, gender or health.

Author(s): Mimi Vitkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3+4/2018

Having spent enough time in proving the inconclusive thesis that the market will solve all the problems of the healthcare system it is time to go to their solution. The European path of development of the country requires maintaining and developing the solid model of health insurance. It is not in the search for solutions to the financial problems of health care to play with the suggestions that the so-called. demonopolisation of the NHIF is a panacea. The claim that the main cause of the poor state of health is the lack of funds is false. The organizational and management chaos in the system, the broken links between its various structures are leading. Financial problems are second.
