SPOSOBY RADZENIA SOBIE I SKUTKI PANDEMII W OPINII OSÓB ODBYWAJĄCYCH KARĘ POZBAWIENIA WOLNOŚCI

Author(s): Ewa Trojanowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 4/2023

The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has caused changes in the functioning of people around the world. The consequences of the pandemic and the restrictions introduced to minimise infection with the virus are the subject of a plethora of research. One of the groups that is particularly vulnerable to both contracting COVID-19 and experiencing negative eff ects of the pandemic is constituted by the persons serving the penalty of deprivation of liberty in penal institutions. Thus, the objective of author’s own research was to try to identify ways of coping with the diffi cult situation represented by the pandemic and its consequences as perceived by the persons serving the penalty of deprivation of liberty. The main research problem consisted in the question: What consequences of the pandemic do the examined prisoners perceive and what ways of coping with this diffi cult situation do they use? The research was conducted in the second quarter of 2021 using a diagnostic survey method and author’s own survey questionnaire. The examined group consisted of 429 persons serving the penalty of deprivation of liberty. The obtained research results allow to conclude that persons serving the penalty of deprivation perceive changes as troublesome for them in the following areas: contacts with the loved ones, work, a sense of freedom, mental health and self-development. In addition, respondents declare that they try to be better towards others more often than before the pandemic as well as they read more and think about the loved ones, which are recognised as the ways of coping with the diffi cult situation. No statistically signifi cant diff erences were found between the persons serving the penalty up to a year and convicts being in isolation for more than 12 months in terms of the perception of the eff ects of pandemic. However, the length of stay diff erentiates the examined persons solely in terms of the frequency in the manifestation of aggressive behaviour. With regard to other ways of coping with the diffi cult situation, there are no statistically signifi cant diff erences between the groups.

How parents can help children with ADHD deal with bullies

How parents can help children with ADHD deal with bullies

Author(s): Steven Richfield / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2018

The challenge of raising children with ADHD often requires helping them contend with one of today’s pervasive social problems: bullying several factors place ADHD children at greater risk for being unsuspecting targets. The tendency to behave in an attention-seeking and/or immature fashion, coupled with decreased social awareness of the impact of their actions, leaves ADHD children more susceptible to bullying and less equipped for appropriate responses. This vulnerability makes it critical for parents to be proactive in coaching ADHD children in ways to become “bully-wise.”

Today, businesses face significant challenges in retaining qualified personnel and ensuring satisfaction. Businesses may have difficulty retaining qualified staff if they cannot provide satisfactory work environments and help employees adapt to their jobs and workplaces. Especially the process of acclimating newly hired personnel to work and the workplace can be professionally challenging. In order to reduce the problems experienced during the recruitment process and ensure positive changes in the performance of employees, businesses need to attach importance to orientation training. Orientation training in the healthcare sector is of critical importance for the professional development of hospital employees and the quality of healthcare services. These trainings increase the reliability of healthcare services by ensuring that new employees learn hospital policies, procedures and patient safety standards. Additionally, by improving patient communication and empathy skills, it encourages employees to communicate more deeply and effectively with patients. While this increases patient satisfaction, it contributes to making treatment processes more efficient and increasing patient care quality standards. Orientation training also increases employees' job satisfaction, helps them adopt the corporate culture, and strengthens the collaborative working environment. In this context, orientation training in the healthcare sector not only accelerates the adaptation process of new employees to the institution, but also plays a vital role in improving the quality of healthcare services by positively affecting the overall performance of the institution and patient experience. In this study, the effect of orientation training on performance in health institutions is discussed. How orientation training works in institutions has been examined in general terms and the effect of this training on employee performance has been evaluated. This research conducted in the healthcare sector reveals that orientation training has a significant impact on the performance of hospital employees. Orientation training helps new employees learn hospital policies and patient safety standards and plays a role in increasing satisfaction by strengthening patient communication skills.

FINANCING METHODS OF HEALTH SYSTEM AND ALLOCATION FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO HEALTHCARE ENTITIES IN REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA

FINANCING METHODS OF HEALTH SYSTEM AND ALLOCATION FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO HEALTHCARE ENTITIES IN REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA

Author(s): Sašo Stefanoski / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The health system in the Republic of North Macedonia is a complex system set up and structure as in the most countries from the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Health activities are performed at the primary, secondary, and tertiary level of health care. The network at the primary and the secondary level of healthcare is divided into separate geographical areas, which can cover one or more municipalities. Tertiary healthcare includes specialized treatments for cases diagnosed and referred from primary and secondary healthcare levels that could not be treated in the institutions of those levels. The system for financing of healthcare is of crucial importance for the functioning of the healthcare system. The financing problem that arises relates to the increasing growth of healthcare expenditure, while the sources of funding remain limited. Financial resources for the health activities are provided by the budget of the Health Insurance Fund. Generally, healthcare in the Republic of North Macedonia has a stable financing system, but the main problem is inefficient organization and management, oversized institutions in terms of personnel and infrastructure. Since 2009, with the introduction of the diagnostic related group system, financing of hospitals is increasingly linked to hospital results, which has led to a large financial deficit in hospitals, as they provide more services than they receive funds for. The only positive fact is that the budget provided for healthcare is increasing every year. Public-private partnership in North Macedonia is very limited to one project and one ongoing initiative.

Alzheimer Hastası Bakım Vereninde Kişilerarası Psikoterapi Yaklaşımı: Olgu

Alzheimer Hastası Bakım Vereninde Kişilerarası Psikoterapi Yaklaşımı: Olgu

Author(s): İdil Rasan Doğan / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 33/2024

Alzheimer's Disease, which is turning into a public health problem in elderly societies, is characterized by significant deterioration in cognitive as well as behavioral processes, and is defined as a neurodegenerative disease, has a challenging process, especially for caregivers. The caregiver, who is seen as the main decision-maker in the disease, may experience problems with both the patient and the environment due to the burden of care, lack of knowledge about the disease, and the weakness of support networks. While the caregiver tries to manage the disease process, they also face loss and mourning. For this reason, especially the difficulty in accepting and adapting to changing roles brings about conflicts in relationships with the patient and others. At this point where support mechanisms gain importance, the Interpersonal Based Psychotherapy (IPT) Approach, which will be put into practice constructively, has a positive impact on caregiver relationships and makes the process bearable by reflecting positively on the prognosis of the disease. IPT is a psychotherapeutic approach used on many interpersonal problems and psychiatric syndromes, and works on the areas of interpersonal conflict, grief and loss, and role reversal. This case study aimed to evaluate the IPT Approach for D., who was caring for his father with Alzheimer's Disease. It has been seen that the approach plays an effective role when the caregiver's relationship with the patient and others is evaluated. Observed in literature studies is that positive interventions for caregivers have positive effects on both the patient and the caregiver. Olgu D., who experienced conflict in her relationships due to the weight of the burden of care and existing life responsibilities, along with the diagnosis of her father's illness, gained accurate information about the disease. At the same time with the therapeutic approach, the insight gained as a result of strengthening the support mechanisms, explaining the situation and the need for help, and the positive structuring of the social support network were achieved.

Body Chemistry and Leadership Behaviour

Author(s): Sunday Ade Bello,Emmanuel Ora Atakpu / Language(s): English Issue: 33/2024

This study applied body chemistry and neuroscience to leadership behaviour. Specifically, it sought to replicate some studies on the relationship between leadership behaviour and happiness. The research method was exploratory because of the paucity of research on leadership behaviour and happiness and involved the use of qualitative and quantitative techniques. The qualitative technique centred on a review and summarisation of existing literature on leadership behaviour, happiness hormones, and happiness on Google Scholars. The quantitative research used a valid and reliable online questionnaire survey on Google Forms to collect information from 80 respondents on different WhatsApp platforms in Canada, the United States of America and Nigeria, selected by judgemenal non probability sampling technique. They were asked if there was a relationship between leadership behaviour and happiness. Six descriptive data analysis methods- tabulation, bar graphs, mode, summations, percentages and average score per respondent - were applied to answer the research question from the coded questionnaire responses. It was found out that there was a relationship between leadership behaviour and happiness. The research also identified the main hormones and neurotransmitters, secreted by mostly the brain, that increase the wellbeing and happiness of leaders and other persons. They are dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins (DOSE). It is recommended that leaders should initiate happiness generating activities like kindness, appreciation, team work, praising others, outdoor exercises, gettogethers and handshakes to enhance their leadership behaviours. The researcher also recommended that leadership recruitment, selection, training, evaluation and rewards should be centred on the capacity to generate and distribute happiness. Leaders should be ‘happifiers’ or happiness generators and distributors.

This study aims to examine the relationship between childhood traumas and depression symptoms and self-compassion among university students. It is a quantitative study using the correlational survey model. The population of the study consists of 387 individuals aged 18 and over living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and this sample was selected using convenience sampling method. Socio-demographic Information Form, Self-Compassion Scale, Childhood Traumas Scale and Beck Depression Inventory were used as data collection tools. The findings show that there is a positive and significant relationship between the levels of childhood traumas and depression symptoms. When the sub-dimensions were analyzed, positive and significant relationships were also found between the levels of emotional and physical abuse and neglect and depression symptoms. As the levels of childhood traumas increased, the severity of depression symptoms also increased. In addition, a negative and significant relationship was found between the levels of childhood traumas and self-compassion levels; as the levels of trauma increase, self-compassion levels decrease. In the light of these findings, clinicians should be aware that childhood traumas may increase the risk of depression and should address this issue with their patients. Early intervention and support are vital for traumatized children. In addition to treating depression, clinicians should develop treatment plans to increase their patients' levels of self-compassion. A holistic approach will support patients' emotional well-being and help them discover their inner resources.

Author(s): Şenol Şahin / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 35/2024

Workers in manufacturing plants have to live with varying levels of noise pollution at their workplaces. People who work in constantly noisy work environments without hearing protection can suffer hearing loss over time. Research shows that the effects of noise levels of 80–85 dBA and above on human health can not only damage the ears, but also manifest themselves in the form of constant headaches, fatigue, cardiac arrhythmias and muscle tension. The concept of noise protection first emerged worldwide in the 1950s. Reducing machine noise, which is the main source of noise in companies, is of great importance for a healthy working environment. Noise can be defined as “loud sound” that not only disturbs people and poses a safety risk, but also harms our health and makes us restless. The aim of this study is to examine the changes in the internal noise pollution values of production facilities in 4 years and to reveal the reasons. For this purpose; in a large-scale PVC door, window and insulating glass production facility, the in-plant noise measurements made in 2019 were carried out again in 2023 after 4 years with similar conditions and characteristics, and the measurement results were re-evaluated for each measurement point. The compartments with increased indoor noise and their causes were investigated and recommendations were made to the company for remedial measures.
