Savršen zločin

Author(s): Jean Baudrillard / Language(s): Serbian

In this book, author turns detective in order to investigate a crime considering the ¨murder¨ of Reality. To solve the crime would be to unravel the technological and social processes by which our world is becoming a thing of (empty) transparency and visibility, a place where reality, swamped by the ¨real time¨ of the news media, has quite simply vanished. But author is not merely intending to lament the disappearance of the real, an occurrence he recently described as ¨the most important event of modern history¨, nor even to meditate upon the paradoxes of reality and illusion, truth and its masks. The Perfect Crime is also the work of a great moralist: it is a penetrating examination of vital aspects of the social, political and cultural life of the ¨advanced democracies¨ in the (very) late twentieth century.

Povodom Levi-Strosovog koncepta "motiva zaborava"

Author(s): Dragana Antonijević / Language(s): Serbian Publication Year: 0

This paper starts with Levi-Strauss's semantic concept that consists of oblivion, misunderstanding, indiscretion and nostalgia. Through his analysis of North American and Greek myths, Levi-Strauss concluded that 'semantic filed of oblivion' has an important meaning especially in the construction of particular rules and rituals; or, in other words, it has an important part in the introduction of culture to the nature of cognitive and social processes. After the introduction of concept Structure of disturbed communication and some corrections to the Levi-Strauss's concept, I start with the proposition that the period of transition represents unstable and 'slippery' time in which society negotiates different meanings. That is the time when different styles of thoughts, represented by different and powerful groups that have an impact on current social, political and ideological processes, compete with each other fighting for supremacy. Their field of communication can be seen as a field of 'disturbed communication', which in the final instance has a normative function: to reinforce and regulate certain attitudes, ideas and knowledge. This is achieved through the narratives which symbolise a community of newly established order in the moment of its supposed sociohistorical stabilisation. Finally, combining two different theoretical models ` Levi-Strauss's one described above with Greimas's ideas about structures of modes of veridiction, this paper predicts chances of particular paradigmatic forms of thought in transitory Serbia to became dominant modes of thought, despite of their current low visibility in the public sphere. In mythical terms, it seems though that their domineering efforts are predetermined to success or fail, since they position them-selves according to the laws immanent to these structures themselves, which on their part a priori position these structures as powerful or powerless, influential or non-influential communities of thought.

TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MALICIOUS USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Author(s): Jakob Willemo / Language(s): English

The malicious use of social media is a widespread phenomenon, targeting individuals, public opinion, and in some cases even the functioning of the state. In recent years, social media platforms have been abused by foreign governments, private companies, and individuals to influence the outcomes of democratic elections and to undermine public trust in the societies in which we live. Today, social media platforms are manipulated by malign actors in order to pursue their political and military goals. In other words, social media platforms have developed into an effective tool for waging information warfare. Although information warfare is nothing new, social media platforms offer a cheaper, more efficient, and less demanding stage for influencing larger numbers of people than ever before. While the social media platforms are conduits facilitating the free passage of information, the companies that own them are active participants wielding significant influence over what takes place in the social media space and, increasingly, over how we communicate, interact, and socialise in the 21st century.

Srpski ratovi rečima 1844-2000. Fragmenti iz istorije političke propagande

Author(s): Mihailo Bjelica / Language(s): Serbian

Novu fazu u mom istraživačkom radu predstavlja ulazak u istorijske arhive, a to se dogodilo krajem šezdesetih, kada sam prijavio doktorsku disertaciju pod nazivom "Počeci političke štampe u Srbiji 1834-1872". [...]

Czynnik ludzki. O cywilizowaniu uprzedmiotowienia

Author(s): Jerzy Stachowiak / Language(s): Polish

This book discusses the problem of relationship between the idea of knowledge-based society/economy and the discourses of work planning. The author argues that objectification is not opposite to the modern “humanistic” management and psychology of work but one of their most important resources. He also shows that objectification has both changed its main legitimate form and transformed its reference. This is why an ideological critique of organisational power over employees has become insufficient and the problem of objectification needs to be studied differently. The book offers an in-depth study of specific fragments of talk and text in which managers, psychologists and other experts publically engage in making the work planning knowledge-based. Empirical analyses result in new theoretical concepts such as managerial correctness, democratised and un-democratised knowledge economy, discursive reversibility. The book will be of interest to discourse analysts, sociologists, psychologists, cultural analysts and managers.

Information Laundering in Germany

Author(s): Belén Carrasco Rodríguez / Language(s): English

Information laundering (IL) is a stratagem used by hostile actors within an information influence campaign. In this process, false or deceitful information is legitimised through a network of intermediaries that gradually apply a set of techniques to distort it and obscure the original source. In the context of this research, IL is leveraged by Kremlin-official or pro-Kremlin actors in a hostile information influence campaign (HIIC) to further their interests in Germany. Information Laundering represents a relatively new approach to information influence activities targeting a particular media environment. In the context of this report, IL research allows governments, national institutions and civil society to reach a deeper understanding of the activity of domestic and transnational networks that enable the spread of the Kremlin’s influence in a particular country, since it uncovers how actors gradually distort, disseminate, and legitimise a piece of information through the application of IL techniques.

Informationswäsche in Deutschland

Online Influence and Hostile Narratives in Eastern Asia

Author(s): Hannah Smith / Language(s): English

Eastern Asia — which we will define as including East and Southeast Asia — is a region of increasing geopolitical competition with many racial, cultural and societal fractures. With the rapid expansion of inexpensive internet access, these fractures and tensions mean that many states in the region are both vulnerable to, and a source of, hostile information activities that are being used to achieve strategic goals both inside and outside the region. This report documents examples of hostile information activities that have originated in Eastern Asia and have been targeted in the following countries: • Taiwan; • The Hong Kong-based protest movement; • West Papua; • The Philippines.

Information Laundering in the Nordic-Baltic Region

Author(s): Belén Carrasco Rodríguez,Nika Aleksejeva,Sebastien Cubbon,Tihomira Doncheva,Benjamin Heap,Rueban Manokara,Thomas Elkjer Nissen,Merete Voetmann / Language(s): English

The penetration of external information influence in a domestic media ecosystem is largely enabled by the interactions between foreign and domestic actors. The term ‘Information Laundering’ describes how these actors manipulate and amplify manipulated information in a particular media environment and the techniques utilised for such purposes. This report evaluates to what extent Kremlin-official and pro-Kremlin actors leverage Information Laundering techniques to conduct influence campaigns in the Nordic-Baltic countries and examines the role that domestic and foreign actors play in enabling these campaigns to reach target audiences. For this purpose, the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence developed a theoretical model of Information Laundering presented in this study. The model was applied to a comparative analysis of 32 Information Laundering cases, linked to the activity of 570 single actors in the eight Nordic-Baltic countries. Through researching Information Laundering in the region, this report aims to support national institutions in their goal to build resilience against hostile information influence operations.

Medijska i informacijska pismenost: istraživanje i razvoj

Author(s): / Language(s): Bosnian

Przemiany wiedzy w cyberkulturze. Badania nad kulturą, komunikacją, wiedzą i mediami

Author(s): Anna Maj / Language(s): Polish

The presence of new technologies and media in the everyday life of modern man affects not only culture, communication and social relations, but also our cognitive processes, perception and understanding of the world. These changes are significant, but often overlooked - we lose sight of the most important, in an evolutionary sense, although subtle, transformations of ways of thinking. It is worth examining how cybercultural knowledge practices have evolved in relation to earlier forms of collecting, organising and sharing knowledge, and how conceptualisations of the concepts of the knowledge pyramid have changed: data, information, knowledge, wisdom. What is the knowledge of the digital age, ubiquitous sensors and networking? Are we really getting smarter by constantly collecting data from our environment? We look at the evolution of digital memory, artificial intelligence, the algorithmisation of cognition and the wikification of knowledge, as well as the scientific ordering of the chaos of ubiquitous data using big data, cultural analytics and social networks. The book shows the cybercultural transformations of knowledge and its conceptualisation in the interdisciplinary perspective of cultural, communication, knowledge and media studies.

Synergistic Application of Metaphorical and Humorous Elements in Polish and English Advertising Discourse

Author(s): Anna Stwora / Language(s): English

The book Synergistic Application aims at investigating the synergistic application of metaphorical and humorous elements in Polish and English multimodal press ads. The presence of conceptual similarities as regards both construction and understanding of humour and metaphor, seen through the lens of the theory of conceptual integration, is a starting point for discussion. The analysis of advertising material makes it possible to investigate joint workings of the phenomena in question. Furthermore, research participants’ feelings on perceived attractiveness and funniness levels of the ads sampled are examined. The results help to check how the informants understand the mechanisms inducing humour and metaphor in ads, which allows for the identification of both similarities and differences between the two language samples.

Poufność a użyteczność informacji statystycznych.

W szczególności scharakteryzowano typy udostępnianych mikrodanych, sposobu organizacji funkcjonowania punktów dostępu oraz stosownych zabezpieczeń, przebieg efektywnej kontroli dostępu i zakres odpowiednich uprawnień.
